[ACM Press the 2nd International Symposium - Chengdu, China (2018.10.13-2018.10.14)] Proceedings of the 2nd International Symposium on Image Computing and Digital Medicine - ISICDM 2018 - Optic Disc and Fovea Detection Using Multi-Stage Region-Based Convolutional Neural Network
摘要: Detection of the optic disc (OD) and fovea in retinal images is an important step for automated detection of retinal disease in digital color photographs of the retina. Together with the vasculature, the optic disc and the fovea are the most important anatomical landmarks on the posterior pole of the retina. In this work, we presented a multi-stage region-based convolutional neural network for optic disc and fovea detection. In the first stage, standard faster-RCNN and SVM were employed for OD segmentation. In the second stage, the relative position information (RPI)-based faster-RCNN was proposed for fovea detection. The experimental result showed the average Euclidean distance with ground truth were 32.6 and 52 pixels for OD and fovea, respectively. The average Jaccard and dice index for OD segmentation were 0.8018 and 0.8873, respectively. The RPI-based faster-RCNN outperformed the standard network.

Foveal choroidal neovascularization secondary to accidental laser exposure in a dermatologist
摘要: Rationale: Most laser-induced retinal injuries are caused by accidental laser discharge during the preparation of laser devices without protective goggles, laser injury during the cosmetic procedure in a dermatologist, is very rare, with no prior case reports. Patient concerns: A 55-year-old Asian male dermatologist visited our hospital with a 2-week history of visual disturbance in his right eye. He had experienced sudden central scotoma in the right eye while using a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm, 2 J/cm2, 6-mm spot size, 750 ps) 2 to 3 cm from the target without proper eye protection. He had applied a glass slide ?rmly onto the treatment area prior to commencing the procedure. The choroidal neovascularization (CNV) was detected via optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) 2 weeks after the laser injury. Diagnosis: Foveal CNV secondary to laser energy re?ected from the glass slide. Intervention: Intravitreal bevacizumab (1.25 mg/0.05 mL) injection was performed. Outcomes: Regression of CNV was observed. Lessons: Retinal injury can occur not only by direct laser beam exposure but also by way of a beam re?ected from a glass slide. Operators should always use laser safety eyewear during cosmetic procedures involving laser devices, so as to prevent the occurrence of ocular complications. Thorough short-term follow-up with OCTA is recommended for the prompt detection of CNV in cases of retinal laser injury.

摘要: This paper designs and produces a single camera head, i.e., the camera view direction control device, for the high-performance Wide Angle Fovea (WAF) sensor. Since the input image by the WAF sensor has an explicit attention region inside its wide-angle field of view (FOV), the view direction control of the WAF sensor is strongly required to acquire visual data most efficiently from the environments. Further, this paper proposes an algorithm to detect self-motion of the WAF sensor using the optical flow calculated from two temporally-sequential images. We have implemented and experimented this algorithm. The experimental results have proved the proposed algorithm performs well to detect self-motion using only the peripheral FOV. This vision system enables to distinguish the self-motion from detecting moving objects in the still scene. The authors hope this WAF vision system will play a role of eyes and will help to control robots more intelligently in the very near future.

A Novel Approach for Detection of Microaneurysms in Diabetic Retinopathy Disease from Retinal Fundus Images
摘要: Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a leading cause of blindness in human beings aged between 20 to 74 years. It has a great influence on the patient and society because it normally influences humans in their most gainful years. Early detection in DR is very difficult which is not detected by human beings. Many algorithms and techniques were established to detect DR. These techniques faced the problems such as increasing sensitivity, specificity and accuracy. To overcome those problems we have to introduce an effective image processing algorithms for increasing performances and also easily identify the DR diseases. One of the most challenging tasks in screening is automatic detection of Microaneurysms (MAs). This paper presents a new approach to detect MAs. Our proposed work consists of preprocessing, blood vessel segmentation (FPCM), fovea localization, fovea elimination, feature extraction and classification (Neuro-Fuzzy). Neuro-Fuzzy is a combined version of neural networks and fuzzy logical models. Experiments are conducted using MATLAB simulation tool. Using MESSIDOR database for our experiments which provides efficient and effective results in sensitivity, specificity, correct classification and detection rate (accuracy) and precision.

The repeatability of superficial retinal vessel density measurements in eyes with long axial length using optical coherence tomography angiography
摘要: Background: To investigate the repeatability of superficial retinal vessel density measurements in healthy eyes with long axial length (AL) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). Methods: There were 60 eyes of 31 volunteers enrolled in this cross-sectional observational study. All subjects underwent OCTA, AL and refraction test. The enrolled eyes were divided into the long AL group (26 mm ≤ AL < 28 mm) and normal AL group (22 mm ≤ AL < 26 mm). The vessel length density (VLD), perfusion density (PD), and fovea avascular zone (FAZ) of the superficial retinal vessel were evaluated. Repeatability was assessed by intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) and Bland-Altman analysis. Pearson’s r correlation was used to analyze the relation of AL and the absolute difference between two measurements. Results: The 3 × 3 mm scan pattern showed good repeatability with all ICCs over 0.7. For all parameters of all scan patterns, the ICCs of the normal AL group were distinctly higher than those of the long AL group; this finding was also confirmed by Bland-Altman analysis. The correlation analysis of AL and repeatability of OCTA parameters showed significant negative correlations between the ALs and repeatability of VLD in 6 × 6 mm inner ring (r2 = 0.13, p = 0.01), VLD in 6 × 6 mm outer ring (r2 = 0.09, p = 0.02) and PD in 6 × 6 mm outer ring (r2 = 0.08, p = 0.03). Conclusions: The AL and the scanned area will both affect the repeatability of superficial retinal vessel density measurements in OCTA.
