Simultaneous Fast Frequency Control and Power Oscillation Damping by Utilizing PV Solar System as PV-STATCOM
摘要: This paper presents a novel fast frequency response and power oscillation damping control by large-scale PV plants controlled as STATCOM, termed PV-STATCOM, to simultaneously enhance frequency regulation and small signal stability of power systems. Frequency deviations typically occur together with power oscillations in large power systems. The proposed controller comprises: i) Power Oscillation Damping (POD) controller based on reactive power modulation; and ii) Fast Frequency Response (FFR) controller based on real power modulation, both of which are applied to the plant level controller of PV-STATCOMs. The proposed composite control is shown to successfully reduce frequency deviations, damp power oscillations and provide voltage regulation both during over-frequency and under-frequency events. The proposed smart inverter control makes effective utilization of the PV inverter capacity and available solar power. For large power flows, the proposed control is shown to be superior than the conventional droop control recommended by North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) for generating plants. Matlab/Simulink based simulations are conducted on two-area power system using generic PV plant dynamic models developed by Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), for a wide range of system operating conditions. Such grid support functionality is expected to bring new revenue making opportunities for PV solar farms.

摘要: Due to growing development of photovoltaic (PV) plants in power systems, they are capable to provide ancillary service for frequency regulation. PV plants provide the required reserve of generation through operating below the maximum power point tracking. This paper proposes a model predictive control (MPC)-based approach for power control of PV plants contributing towards load frequency control (LFC). In MPC, the control signals are provided through optimizing a cost function which includes the plant model as well as current and past signals of the system. Since the successful performance of the controller depends on the well-adjusting of its weights, the weights of the controller are regulated by sine cosine algorithm to earn an optimal performance. Comprehensive discussions are presented on a three-area interconnected power system. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is demonstrated through case studies and thereby relevant conclusions are drawn.

摘要: This study proposes an approximate mathematical model of an isolated microgrid consisting of solar photovoltaic, wind turbine, biogas, biodiesel generators, flywheel and battery storage system for load frequency analysis. A proportional-integral(PI) cascaded through tilt-integral-derivative with derivative filter(TIDF) controller named PI-TIDF is suggested for load frequency regulation of the microgrid. To tune controller parameters a newly proposed harris hawks optimization(HHO) is applied utilizing ITAE fitness function. The superiority of the HHO is established by comparison with other techniques such as GOA, CSA and GA. Then using HHO, comparison between PIDF, TIDF and PI-TIDF is done for load frequency control. From frequency response, it is found that HHO tuned PI-TIDF is having better performance compared to TIDF and PIDF. Lastly, the ability of the suggested technique is examined by changing the frequency and magnitude of disturbances. In the changed disturbance case, proposed control scheme is proved to have satisfactory performance without retuning the controller parameters.

A Novel Modified Robust Load Frequency Control for Mass-Less Inertia Photovoltaics Penetrations via Hybrid PSO-WOA Approach
摘要: The high penetrations of distributed energy resources (DERs) leads to severe problems such as reducing system inertia and increasing the frequency deviations from the nominal value. The main target of this study is to enable modern photovoltaics (PVs) with large penetration amounts to participate effectively in the load frequency control in the interconnected power systems, in which frequency and tie-line power sharing deviations exist. In this research, a model for the solar PV is developed to help study the heavy penetration of the solar PVs within interconnected power systems. Secondly, a time domain objective function based on the norm of the area control error is formulated. Thirdly, in order to tune the PI controllers, a combined meta-heuristic algorithm based on particle swarm optimization and whale optimization algorithm (PSO-WOA) is developed and compared with the individual PSO and WOA controllers. From the studied scenarios, the developed combined scheme outperforms the other algorithms in terms of system performance indices. Therefore, the developed PSO-WOA approach is plausible and straightforward to solve many engineering problems as it benefits from the exploitation characteristics of the conventional PSO and the exploration features of the WOA.

摘要: We report on the high-resolution frequency and phase control of a terahertz (THz) quantum cascade laser (QCL). The 2.0 THz QCL is locked to a stable microwave reference frequency via an all-fibre infrared frequency comb. The frequency of the QCL is controlled by optical injection and the phase is independently controlled by introducing a phase-lock loop that provides electronic feedback to the QCL, forming an optical injection phase locked loop (OIPLL). By implementing this, (1) the instrument limited linewidth of the locked QCL was <1Hz (2) for a fixed frequency, the phase of the THz QCL relative to the microwave reference frequency can be controlled within a range 0.3(cid:2).

摘要: Arbitrary control of high-power THz polarization and frequency is studied by the numerical calculation based on the coupled wave approach. THz wave generation using organic crystals via optical rectification provides high conversion efficiency. To overcome the limitation of the generated THz field direction which comes from their optical anisotropy, we propose the synthesis of THz wave generated from two crystals whose optical axis are orthogonal each other. By the calculation, the linearly and circularly polarized THz wave generation by changing the time delay of two pump pulses is demonstrated.

Parts-per-trillion sensitivity for trace-moisture detection using wavelength-meter-controlled cavity ring-down spectroscopy
摘要: We introduced frequency-control and temperature-control systems in wavelength-meter-controlled cavity ring-down spectroscopy. The frequency-control system shifted the wavelength of the probe laser from 1393 nm to 696.5 nm where no strong absorption lines of water exist, and therefore, it could avoid measurement errors in laser frequency due to residual moisture in the built-in Fizeau interferometer of a wavelength meter. We verified the hypothesis that the nonuniform reflectivity of the mirror surface contributes to fluctuations in the ring-down time observed with multi-transverse-mode CRDS signals. The fluctuations due to this effect were greatly suppressed by the temperature-control system. Using this system, we could improve the minimum detectable absorption coefficient by three times on average and also improve the experimental standard deviations of the averages by nine times compared with those without the system. We measured near-infrared spectra of residual moisture in dry nitrogen at an approximately 1 nmol/mol (1 ppb) level and performed least-squares fitting of the averaged spectrum. The standard deviation of the residuals of the fitting was 6.6 × 10?12 cm?1, corresponding to a mole fraction of water of 6.3 pmol/mol (6.3 ppt).

Equitable Distribution of Wind and Photovoltaic Power Curtailment
摘要: Curtailment algorithm for renewable energy sources interconnected to a power grid has been developed so that the oversupply in the power grid could be prevented. The algorithm consists of the optimization problem the objective function of which is the equitable distribution of minimized curtailment. The energy loss due to the curtailment is applied to evaluating the equitable distribution of curtailment in the optimization problem. The proposed algorithm has been simulated by using the predicted value of load demand, thermal, wind, and photovoltaics generating units from June 2014 to March 2015. It was found that the oversupply is solved by the proposed algorithm and the energy loss for the renewable energy sources are distributed equitably.

An Experimental Study on Dual P-f Droop Control of Photovoltaic Power Generation for Supporting Grid Frequency Regulation
摘要: The objective of this study is to develop an active power control of photovoltaic power generation (PV) system for supporting grid frequency regulation in two different forms, i.e. slow frequency control contributing to load – frequency control (LFC) and fast frequency control contributing to inertial response of synchronous generators. Two different active power – frequency droop characteristics are implemented simultaneously by using different frequency measurement methods. The performance test result of proposed control using an experimental setup shows that PV system equipped with proposed control can supply appropriate active power according to two different droop characteristics for slow frequency control and fast frequency control.
