Wavelength dependence of high-order harmonic yields in solids
摘要: We theoretically investigate the wavelength dependence of high-order harmonic yields in solids driven by a mid-infrared laser field. By solving the three-dimensional two-band density matrix equations in the wavelength range of 2.0–7.5 μm, it is shown that, in the limit of slow dephasing (dephasing time T2 → ∞), the high-order harmonic yield from a crystal follows a scaling of λ?4 for a fixed energy interval. The λ?4 scaling is attributed to the wave-packet spreading (λ?3) for the overall yield and the energy distribution effect (λ?1) due to the increase of the cutoff. For the crystal with a finite dephasing time T2, we find that the exponential factor x of λ?x increases with a decay of T2. An apparent and rapid fluctuation on a fine wavelength mesh is also observed in the harmonic yields. The fine-scale oscillation originates from the quantum interference effect, and the corresponding modulation period δλ scales as λ?1.

摘要: Three-dimensional (3D) Fibonacci number photovoltaic modules (FPMs), which are designed in part based on natural plant leaf phyllotaxis, have previously been proposed as a means of efficiently collecting solar energy over the course of a day. When multiple FPMs are installed in the same area, they can be arranged like trees in a forest. As part of efforts to realize such power generation forests, this study uses simulations and experiments to clarify the relationship between the cell configurations within a solar cell panel and the power generation that occurs when an adjacent FPM is installed.

摘要: The need for electrical power gradually increases every year due to population growth and economic development in particular in developing countries. The primary sources of electricity are usually fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas, oil etc. and major part of them is imported by those countries. This is unfortunately a typical indication of the energy dependence and play strategic role in economic development of the developing countries since some cannot switch to renewable energy use despite they have abundant renewable energy potential. The fact that the use of renewable energy is not widespread in those countries and it can be seen as not making enough investment by the government or private sector. This potential can be utilized by using on-grid/off-grid renewable systems in particular wind-PV systems ranging from power ratings of 1 to 10 kW in remote areas. To make such systems economic, power balance between generation and consumption should be maintained at hourly time slots in the day. One way to do that is to solve a discrete optimization problem and the solution can be achieved by a mathematical model satisfying the given constraints in a certain location. Unit sizing of a low power off-grid renewable system to meet power demand for a typical residential home in a location is achieved and the outcomes are meaningful and encouraging for widening renewable energy applications worldwide.

Quarter Video Graphics Array Digital Pixel Image Sensing With a Linear and Wide-Dynamic-Range Response by Using Pixel-Wise 3-D Integration
摘要: We have developed a quarter video graphics array (QVGA) digital pixel image sensor by using the 3-D integration technology. The pulse-frequency modulation (PFM) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) operates as a digital pixel, which overcomes the signal saturation due to the full well capacity of the photodiode (PD). We have also newly designed a PFM-ADC for pixels with a pinned PD and a floating diffusion to comply with the CMOS image sensor process used to attain high sensitivity and low noise. PDs, comparators, logic circuits, and counters are integrated into two silicon-on-insulator layers by pixel-wise 3-D integration with gold electrodes with a 5 μm diameter, thereby achieving a QVGA resolution for a 20-mm square chip in the 0.18- and 0.2-μm process nodes. The developed sensor exhibits both the excellent linearity and a wide-dynamic range of more than 96 dB. Video images with a high bit depth of 16 bit are also obtained to demonstrate the superior image sensing, capable of capturing the real world at high fidelity.

Integrating Grey Data Preprocessor and Deep Belief Network for Day-ahead PV Power Output Forecast
摘要: Generation output forecasting is a crucial task for planning and sizing of a photovoltaic (PV) power plant. The purpose of this paper is to present an effective model for day-ahead forecasting PV power output of a plant based on deep belief network (DBN) combined with grey theory-based data preprocessor (GT-DBN), where the DBN attempts to learn high-level abstractions in historical PV output data by utilizing hierarchical architectures. Test results obtained by the proposed model are compared with those obtained by other five forecasting methods including autoregressive integrated moving average model (ARIMA), back propagation neural network (BPNN), radial basis function neural network (RBFNN), support vector regression (SVR), and DBN alone. It shows that the proposed model is superior to other models in forecasting accuracy and is suitable for day-ahead PV power output prediction.

Correlation Between Multimodal Microscopy, Tissue Morphology, and Enzymatic Resistance in Riboflavin-UVA Cross-Linked Human Corneas
摘要: PURPOSE. To explore the utility of multimodal microscopy as a noninvasive tool to assess corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) efficacy, we investigated the correlation between riboflavin (RF) axial profile, second harmonic generation (SHG) imaging, and histological/biochemical changes of human corneas after RF-ultraviolet A (UVA)–catalyzed CXL. METHODS. De-epithelialized human corneoscleral tissues were imaged by confocal and multiphoton microscopy to study RF tissue diffusion profile and SHG-based roughness index (Rq) after CXL. We installed 0.1% RF for 5, 10, and 20 minutes, respectively, followed by UVA irradiation, while dextran drug vehicle–treated corneas served as controls. Masson’s trichrome staining and collagenase digestion assay were employed to assess ultrastructural modifications of collagen lamellae and bioenzymatic strength following RF-UVA CXL. RESULTS. Stromal absorption of RF was significantly higher in 20 minutes compared with 5- and 10-minute drug instillations. The roughness index of SHG images was reduced after RF-UVA CXL at all RF instillation time points compared with dextran controls. Interestingly, correlation between axial profiles of RF dosage and Rq index was only observed in 10- and 20-minute RF instillations (R2 ? 0.13 and 0.28, respectively, all P < 0.05), but not in the 5-minute group. Masson’s trichrome staining revealed collagen fibril compaction in cross-linked corneas in an RF dose-dependent manner. Collagenase digestion assay showed significantly increased biochemical strength by higher RF doses in cross-linked corneas. CONCLUSIONS. Intrastromal RF distribution profiles correlated with histological and functional property changes in RF-UVA cross-linked corneas. A riboflavin-defined threshold further determined the sensitivity of SHG imaging as a noninvasive imaging modality to assess the efficacy of RF-UVA CXL.

摘要: This paper presents a smart strategy for a charging station in which a single voltage source converter (VSC) does a multiple task such as power management among different energy sources and charging the electric vehicles (EVs), regulation of voltage and frequency of the generator, harmonics current compensation of nonlinear loads. The charging strategy is designed such that it primarily takes power from the solar photovoltaic (PV) array and a storage battery. In absence of these two sources, the charging station wisely takes power from the grid and the squirrel cage induction generator (SEIG) based diesel generator (DG) set. The DG set is operated such that it generates up to 33% more power than it rated capacity without surpassing the rated current in the windings, therefore, the size of the DG is reduced. Moreover, the voltage and frequency of the generator, are regulated at its rated values without a mechanical speed governor.

Modeling and Simulation of High-Frequency Solar Irradiance
摘要: As the use of solar power as a source of electricity is increasing, so is the interest in modeling radiation at high temporal resolutions. High-dimensional remote sensing data products depend on cloud cover variability, atmosphere aerosol levels, and other atmospheric parameters. Because of weather fronts and aerosols, it is difficult to quantify solar power variability based on distributed solar networks. The global horizontal irradiance (GHI) component in the National Solar Radiation Database (NSRDB) is available at a 30-min time resolution. The algorithm proposed in this paper produces 1-min-resolution GHI samples at locations where NSRDB data are available. The synthetic irradiance datasets are produced using log-additive non-Gaussian mixture models and resampling techniques. The model is trained over historical data, and predicted values are compared with in situ data. This approach allows for estimating the solar irradiance at subhourly temporal resolutions, while featuring variability for locations where measurements are otherwise not available.

Y2(CO3)3?H2O and (NH4)2Ca2Y4(CO3)9?H2O: Partial Aliovalent Cation Substitution Enabling Evolution from Centrosymmetry to Noncentrosymmetry for Nonlinear Optical Response
摘要: An effective approach, the partial aliovalent cation substitution (PACS), was successfully employed to develop nonlinear optical (NLO) material. Two novel rare earth carbonates, Y2(CO3)3·H2O (YC) and (NH4)2Ca2Y4(CO3)9·H2O (CYC), were synthesized, which feature the same honeycomb-like framework structure. From YC to CYC, the partial substitution of Y3+ with Ca2+ led to the evolution of space group from centrosymmetric P63/mcm to noncentrosymmetric P63mc. The CYC exhibited a second harmonic generation (SHG) effect of 2.1 × KH2PO4 (KDP) and a deep-UV cut-off edge (<200 nm). It was concluded that the SHG effect originates from the ordered arrangement of (CO3)2- groups and the dipole polarization enhancement of [Ca0.33Y0.67O9] polyhedra. Specifically, the long-range ordered electric field of channels induced the ordered arrangement of (CO3)2- groups. This synthetic approach and SHG-activated induction mechanism may afford new strategies for the design and synthesis of NLO materials.

Label-free detection of brain invasion in meningiomas by multiphoton microscopy
摘要: Brain invasion in meningiomas relates to the poor prognosis. Therefore, accurate detection and treatment of brain invasion are of particular importance. In this study, multiphoton microscopy (MPM) was introduced for label-free detection of brain invasion in meningiomas by the combination of the two-photon excited fluorescence imaging, second-harmonic generation imaging and spectral imaging. Results show that MPM has the ability to morphologically and spectrally identify brain invasion in meningiomas. What is more, the intensity ratios of the cerebral cortex over meningiomas at 475 nm, 511 nm and 540 nm were extracted as quantitative indicators for differentiating meningioma from surrounding normal cerebral cortex tissue. Together with custom-developed image processing algorithms, MPM could further identify the tumor boundary. With miniaturization and optimization of probes and optical fiber for in vivo imaging, combined with a laser ablation system, MPM would be used in an operating room for both the diagnosis and treatment of brain invasion in meningiomas.
