  • In-band Full-Duplex Relay-Assisted Millimeter-Wave System Design

    摘要: Millimeter-wave (mmWave) communication is a promising technology for future wireless systems due to the availability of huge unlicensed bandwidth. However, the need for large number of radio frequency (RF) chains associated with the antenna array and the corresponding increase in hardware complexity and power consumption are major stumbling blocks to its implementability. In this paper, we propose a low-complexity in-band full-duplex relay-assisted mmWave communication system design. We obtain the proposed multiple-input multiple-output analog–digital hybrid transceivers and relay filters by minimizing the overall sum-mean-square-error while mitigating the effect of residual loopback self-interference (LSI) in the system. The number of RF chains required in the proposed design is less than the number of antennas. We first present a design assuming the availability of perfect channel state information (CSI) at all the nodes. Later, we extend it to a robust design assuming a more realistic scenario, where the available CSI is imperfect. Furthermore, the LSI channel knowledge is assumed to be imperfect for both the designs rendering them robust to errors in loopback CSI. We employ sparse approximation technique to reduce the hardware complexity in the proposed system designs. The proposed algorithms are shown to converge to a limit even though the global convergence is hard to prove since the overall problem is non-convex. The hardware complexity-performance tradeoff of the proposed design is analyzed. Furthermore, the resilience of the robust design in the presence of CSI errors and the performance of both the proposed designs over various parameters are illustrated via numerical simulations.

  • Toward High Accuracy Positioning in 5G via Passive Synchronization of Base Stations Using Thermally-Insensitive Optical Fibers

    摘要: Research on millimeter-wave (mmWave) massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) has received much attention. However, due to the propagation characteristic of mmWave, signals will suffer from a significant loss over long range transmission. The mmWave MIMO system may face the challenge of the near-far problem where the user tries to retrieve the information signal (IS) from the base station under the strong intended jamming signal (JS). This paper proposes a novel hybrid beamforming design to cancel the JS that significantly reduces the computational complexity and incurs less feedback signaling overhead. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed scheme can significantly suppress the interference from the JS and achieve the array gain in the system.

  • Optimal Hybrid Beamforming for Multiuser Massive MIMO Systems with Individual SINR Constraints

    摘要: In this letter, we consider optimal hybrid beamforming design to minimize the transmission power under individual signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) constraints in a multiuser massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) system. This results in a challenging non-convex optimization problem. We consider two cases. In the case where the number of users is smaller than or equal to that of radio frequency (RF) chains, we propose a low-complexity method to obtain a globally optimal solution and show that it achieves the same transmission power as an optimal fully-digital beamformer. In the case where the number of users is larger than that of RF chains, we propose a low-complexity globally convergent alternating algorithm to obtain a stationary point.

    摘要: This paper considers hybrid beamforming (HBF) for the point-to-point (P2P) millimeter wave (mmWave) massive MIMO systems. The optimal hybrid precoding and combining matrices that maximizes the system capacity can be obtained based on the singular value decomposition (SVD) of the channel matrix. Then, the optimal unconstrained hybrid digital and analog precoders (combiners) are designed according to the polar decomposition of the optimal hybrid precoding (combining) matrix. Considering the actual hardware constraints, we propose a joint transmitter and receiver HBF algorithm based upon polar decomposition. In this algorithm, the hybrid analog constrained precoding and combining matrices can be derived without having to incur an excessive computational complexity of an iterative approach. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can approach the performance of optimal unconstrained precoding, and is insensitive to the accuracy of the channel state information (CSI).

  • DoA and DoD Estimation and Hybrid Beamforming for Radar-Aided mmWave MIMO Vehicular Communication Systems

    摘要: In millimeter wave (mmWave) communications, the feature of relatively large signal absorption and directional transmission render new challenges for wireless communications and signal processing. To further improve the performance of mmWave communications, a novel radar-aided mmWave communication (RAMC) approach is proposed, which can be used in vehicular communications. There are two parts in the proposed RAMC system, including the radar subsystem and the mmWave communication subsystem. In the radar subsystem, the bistatic co-prime multi-input and multi-output (MIMO) arrays are considered. With the radar antenna arrays, both the directions of departure (DoD) and the directions of arrival (DoA) are estimated. Additionally, the compressed sensing (CS)-based method is proposed to obtain the target positions. Using the estimated angle and position information, the channel estimation and feedback link of the mmWave communication subsystem can be eliminated. Moreover, a hybrid beamforming algorithm is proposed in the mmWave communication subsystem, which can overcome the shortage of the analog-only beamforming. Simulation results show that the better estimation performance can be achieved by the bistatic co-prime MIMO arrays than that by the traditional uniform linear arrays (ULA), and with the radar aided, the mmWave communication subsystem can reduce the beam search time, and the cell discovery time is improved significantly.

  • Hybrid Beamforming for Millimeter Wave Massive Multiuser MIMO Systems using Regularized Channel Diagonalization

    摘要: This letter presents a novel hybrid analog-digital beamforming design for massive multiuser MIMO downlink transmission in sparse millimeter wave (mm-wave) channels. The proposed hybrid regularized channel diagolnalization (HRCD) scheme combines analog (RF) phase-only beamforming with linear digital (baseband) precoding based on regularized channel diagonalization. Being a hybrid beamforming design utilizing simple non-iterative processing, HRCD provides a low complexity solution that is capable of outperforming several other hybrid schemes including those based on block diagonalization, as shown through simulations. Furthermore, it is also shown that the performance remains strong even with the use of ?nite-resolution phase shifters.
