    摘要: A fully automated and online artifact removal method for the electroencephalogram (EEG) is developed for use in brain-computer interfacing (BCI). The method (FORCe) is based upon a novel combination of wavelet decomposition, independent component analysis, and thresholding. FORCe is able to operate on a small channel set during online EEG acquisition and does not require additional signals (e.g., electrooculogram signals). Evaluation of FORCe is performed of?ine on EEG recorded from 13 BCI particpants with cerebral palsy (CP) and online with three healthy participants. The method outperforms the state-of the-art automated artifact removal methods Lagged Auto-Mutual Information Clustering (LAMIC) and Fully Automated Statistical Thresholding for EEG artifact Rejection (FASTER), and is able to remove a wide range of artifact types including blink, electromyogram (EMG), and electrooculogram (EOG) artifacts.

  • Realization of Excitation Wavelength Independent Blue Emission of ZnO Quantum Dots with Intrinsic Defects

    摘要: Eco-friendly cation metal oxide quantum dots (QDs) are one of promising candidates to replace for QDs containing expensive Indium (In) or hazardous Cd- and Pb-elements. Super-Eg excitation wavelength (λex) dependent Zni-VO complex defects related characteristic emissions of green, yellow, and orange-red from ZnO QDs are completely inhibited by reducing oxygen vacancies through the hybridization of Zn interstitials in ZnO QDs with anti-bonding O-states of graphene oxide (GO) QDs. Thus, only λex independent violet-purple-blue (V-P-B) emission resulting from transitions among Frenkel pairs (Zni 0-VZn) and the defects Zni 0-Oi in ZnO-GO QDs with a high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 92% is successfully achieved. White-light emission from PL QD-LEDs is achieved using a mixture of ZnO and ZnO-GO QDs with CIE (0.32, 0.34) excited by a UV LEDs chip (λ=365 nm). Further, ZnO-GO QD-based deep-blue LEDs (λ=438 nm) with luminance of 1980 cd/m2, a luminous efficacy (LE) of 2.53 cd/A, and external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 2.78 % with CIE (0.16, 0.11) are also realized.

    摘要: A metascreen absorber composed of plasmonic nanodisk array is used to absorb incident radiation at optical frequencies. The conventional Nobel metals such as gold and silver are considered as best plasmonic materials to couple incident light to surface plasmons modes. However, it is found that alternative plasmonic materials such as copper (Cu) offers optimized absorption characteristics. Copper nanodisk absorber offers a broad range of optical absorption ranging from 400 nm – 1500 nm wavelength. In addition, it is found that the light absorption bandwidth can be signi?cantly enhanced or near perfect absorption can be reached if plasmonic nanodisks are arranged in quasi-crystal con?guration. The proposed quasicrystal based metascreen absorber offers potential applications for light energy harvesting and optical sensing applications.

  • Roll-to-roll printed stable and thickness-independent ZnO:PEI composite electron transport layer for inverted organic solar cells

    摘要: Large-scale roll-to-roll (R2R) micro-gravure printing is one of the most e?ective fabrication techniques to achieve the commercialization of organic solar cells (OSCs). In the high-performance OSC devices, the electron transport layer (ETL) plays an important role. In this paper, a composite ink of ZnO and polyethylenimine (PEI) was developed to fabricate large-area ETL for the inverted OSCs through R2R micro-gravure printing. It was found that the modi?cation of ZnO nanoparticles by PEI e?ectively improved ink stability and enhanced the mechanical property. Using R2R micro-gravure printing, the thickness and coverage of the ZnO: PEI ?lms were well regulated through changing the printing roller speed and web speed. Consequently, a high-power conversion e?ciency around 6% was obtained for the ?exible PTB7-Th: PC71BM device with the thickness of R2R printed ZnO: PEI layer up to 120 nm, demonstrating the high printability of this ZnO: PEI composite material for the use in printed ?exible OSCs as the interface layer.

    摘要: The main type of obstacles of practical applications of quantum key distribution (QKD) network are various attacks on detection. Measurement-device-independent QKD (MDIQKD) protocol is immune to all these attacks, and thus, a strong candidate for network security. Recently, several proof-of-principle demonstrations of MDIQKD have been performed. Although novel, those experiments are implemented in the laboratory with secure key rates less than 0.1 b/s. Besides, they need manual calibration frequently to maintain the system performance. These aspects render these demonstrations far from practicability. Thus, justification is extremely crucial for practical deployment into the field environment. Here, by developing an automatic feedback MDIQKD system operated at a high clock rate, we perform a field test via deployed fiber network of 30 km total length achieving a 16.9 b/s secure key rate. The result lays the foundation for a global quantum network, which can shield from all the detection-side attacks.

  • Classification of Ceramic Tableware by Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy and Chemometrics

    摘要: Ceramics manufactured in Brazil and in other countries were analyzed by laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). The LIBS spectra were employed to identify the origin of the tableware as produced in Brazil or abroad using soft independent modeling of class analogy (SIMCA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA). Three sets of spectral variables were evaluated aiming at discrimination of the ceramics: the entire LIBS spectrum, a set of selected spectral ranges, and the maximum of emission intensity of the elements Al, Ca, Mg, Si, Na and Ti. The results for the three sets of variables show good performance, achieving correct classification from 88.6 to 94.3%, and 86.7 to 100% for the external training and test, respectively.

  • Equation of motion coupled-cluster for core excitation spectra: Two complementary approaches

    摘要: This paper presents core excitation spectra from coupled-cluster (CC) theory obtained from both a time-independent and a new time-dependent formalism. The conventional time-independent CC formulation for excited states is the equation-of-motion (EOM-CC) method whose eigenvalues and eigenvectors describe the core excited states. An alternative computational procedure is offered by a time-dependent CC description. In that case, the dipole transition operator is expressed in the CC effective Hamiltonian form and propagated with respect to time. The absorption spectrum is obtained from the CC dipole autocorrelation function via a Fourier transformation. Comparisons are made among the time-dependent results obtained from second-order perturbation theory, to coupled cluster doubles and their linearized forms (CCD and LCCD), to CC singles and doubles (CCSD) and the linearized form (LCCSD). In the time-independent case, considerations of triples (EOM-CCSDT) and quadruples (EOM-CCSDTQ) are used to approach sub-electron volt accuracy. A particular target is the allyl radical, as an example of an open-shell molecule. As the results have to ultimately be the same, the two procedures offer a complementary approach toward analyzing experimental results.

  • Tunable and Polarization-Independent Plasmon-Induced Transparency in a Fourfold Symmetric Metal-Graphene Terahertz Metamaterial

    摘要: The introduction of graphene into metamaterials allows for more flexible and convenient control of electromagnetic waves. In this paper, one simple plasmon-induced transparency (PIT) structure with tunability and polarization independence is investigated in the terahertz (THz) regime. The simulation results indicate that the transparent window can be manipulated in a wide range and even switched off by merely changing the Fermi energy of graphene. By continuously altering the resonance intensity of the dark resonator using the graphene, the PIT resonance can be actively manipulated. The behavior can be elucidated by the classical coupled two-particle model, which corresponds well to the simulation results. Owing to the fourfold symmetric structure, the proposed PIT device exhibits polarization-independent characteristics. This work provides design guidance for metal-graphene THz modulators.

  • Antimicrobial Photodynamic Inactivation Mediated by Tetracyclines in Vitro and in Vivo: Photochemical Mechanisms and Potentiation by Potassium Iodide

    摘要: Tetracyclines (including demeclocycline, DMCT, or doxycycline, DOTC) represent a class of dual-action antibacterial compounds, which can act as antibiotics in the dark, and also as photosensitizers under illumination with blue or UVA light. It is known that tetracyclines are taken up inside bacterial cells where they bind to ribosomes. In the present study, we investigated the photochemical mechanism: Type 1 (hydroxyl radicals); Type 2 (singlet oxygen); or Type 3 (oxygen independent). Moreover, we asked whether addition of potassium iodide (KI) could potentiate the aPDI activity of tetracyclines. High concentrations of KI (200–400 mM) strongly potentiated (up to 5 logs of extra killing) light-mediated killing of Gram-negative Escherichia coli or Gram-positive MRSA (although the latter was somewhat less susceptible). KI potentiation was still apparent after a washing step showing that the iodide could penetrate the E. coli cells where the tetracycline had bound. When cells were added to the tetracycline + KI mixture after light, killing was observed in the case of E. coli showing formation of free molecular iodine. Addition of azide quenched the formation of iodine but not hydrogen peroxide. DMCT but not DOTC iodinated tyrosine. Both E. coli and MRSA could be killed by tetracyclines plus light in the absence of oxygen and this killing was not quenched by azide. A mouse model of a superficial wound infection caused by bioluminescent E. coli could be treated by topical application of DMCT and blue light and bacterial regrowth did not occur owing to the continued antibiotic activity of the tetracycline.
