  • Static and dynamic effective thickness in five-layered glass plates

    摘要: In the last years, the effective thickness concept has been used to calculate deflections, stresses and modal parameters in laminated glass beams and plates, which consists of using a monolithic element with equivalent bending properties to a laminated element, i.e. the thickness of the equivalent monolithic model is time and temperature dependent because the interlayers show a viscoelastic behavior. Multi-layered laminated glass panels are those with at least three monolithic glass layers and two viscoelastic interlayers which are commonly used in floors, roofs and other applications where a high level of security is required. In this paper, a static deflection effective stiffness for a laminated glass plate consisting of three glass layers and two polymeric interlayers is derived. This static effective thickness is then extended to the frequency domain using the correspondence principle. The models are validated by static experimental tests and operational modal tests carried out on a rectangular multi-layered laminated glass plate pinned supported at the four corners.

  • Study on high-efficiency separation of laminated glass by skillfully combining laser-induced thermal-crack propagation and laser thermal melting

    摘要: Laminated glass has a wide range of applications, but the cutting process is too cumbersome. In this paper, a novel laser composite separation method was proposed to separate the laminated glass by one time and simplify the cutting process from five steps to two steps for the first time by skillfully combining laser-induced thermal-crack propagation and laser thermal melting. This method generated three laser foci, and each laser focus is acting on one layer of laminated glass. Then, the composite mechanism combining laser-induced thermal-crack propagation for glass layers and laser thermal melting separation for PVB layer was realized to separate entire laminated glass. The experiments of separating laminated glass with thickness of 5 + 0.38 + 5 mm were carried out by laser composite separation successfully, and the separation side wall was very smooth (roughness of glass layer reached 10.24 nm) without any separation defects such as chipping, micro-cracks or subsurface damage. A mathematical model was also established to analyze the separation mechanism.

  • Photocured characteristics of fast photocurable acrylic formulations and investigations by differential photo calorimeter

    摘要: Bisphenol-A glycerolate diacrylate has been synthesized, characterized and formulated with acrylate monomers. Photocrosslinking characteristics of UV-curable acrylate monomers were investigated with the help of differential photocalorimeter equipped with UV radiometer using UV radiation of 365 nm at an intensity of 10 mWcm-2. The heat of photoreaction, curing rate and degree of conversion were studied using theoretical kinetic equations to investigate the effect of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate on photocuring behaviour of bisphenol-A glycerolate diacrylate, acrylic acid and methyl methacrylate. Curing rate reached its maximum value within 7.5 s, and more than 70% monomers were photopolymerized in all the formulations. Enthalpy of photopolymerization was found in the range of - 206 to - 171 J g-1, and maximum degree of conversion attained was 82–84% within a time span of 25 s. A comparison of DPC curves reveals that 2-ethyl hexyl acrylate has no significant effect on the curing rate of photopolymerization, however, a small decrease in degree of conversion was observed. Further, FTIR quantification of C=C bond conversion was performed in order to estimate the degree of conversion after 25 s. Specific gravity and mechanical properties of the casted films have also been reported. Glass transition temperatures were also recorded with the help of DSC, and a remarkable shift from 40.52 to 23.48 °C was observed imparting flexibility to the UV-cured compositions. The developed photocurable acrylic formulations have been used for preparation of laminated glasses which were analysed for fracture and adhesion test.

  • Comparative evaluation of novel thermo-chemical treatment methods for improved impact performance of laminated glass

    摘要: The thermal and chemical treatment used for glass is not applicable for the laminated glass due to the presence of interlayer having lower melting temperature than the minimum required temperature for the conventional treatment of glass. The present work reports four specialized treatment methods for laminated glass treatment. The effectiveness of the four novel laminated glass treatment methods is evaluated for an impact response of laminated glass. The destructive ball drop testing was performed following EN 356 on laminated glass samples after treating them with each of the four treatment methods. The treatment methods are compared based on the fracture pattern (correlated to the post-fracture response), fragment size, and amount of damage due to the impact by 2.3 kg, 83 mm diameter smooth solid steel ball from the height of 5 m. A multi-purpose algorithm (transient analysis in ANSYS 14.5 (explicit dynamics module)) was utilized for the determination of the maximum deformation and maximum equivalent stress. The regression analysis is conducted for the validation of experimental results. The impact behavior of thermo-chemically treated laminated glass samples was found to be significantly better than the untreated laminated glass samples in the most cases as the impurities/defects were reduced and strength of the laminated glass samples was increased by the treatment. These treatment methods can be customized later for the laminated glass structures and windshields during operating conditions, which would be a significant contribution to this field.
