  • GaSe saturable absorber for mode-locked Er-doped fiber laser

    摘要: A GaSe-PVA based saturable absorber (SA) is prepared by liquid-phase stripping method. The linear and nonlinear transmission spectrum, AFM, SEM and Raman spectrum are used to characterize the SA, the modulation depth of 6.4% and the saturation intensity of 72 MW/cm2 indicated that the GaSe nanosheets can be employed as SA for mode-locked (ML) operation in Er-doped fiber laser (EDFL). The passively mode-locked operation with the output power of 29.1 mW, pulse width of 4.3 ps and repetition rate of 8.849 MHz can be obtained by GaSe-PVA based SA.

  • High-energy dissipative soliton resonance and rectangular noise-like pulse in a figure-9 Tm fiber laser

    摘要: We experimentally demonstrate a direct generation of high-energy dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) and rectangular noise-like pulse (NLP) in a figure-9 thulium-holmium-doped mode-locked fiber laser. The pulse duration and average output power of the DSR can be tuned from 33.5 ns to 144.6 ns, and from 100.25 mW to 677.5 mW, respectively. The maximum of pulse energy is 713.2 nJ without wave breaking at pump power of 6.7 W, which is the highest energy of DSR in the region of 2 μm, to the best of our knowledge. In addition, the rectangular NLP with 452 nJ pulse bunch energy is also obtained.

  • High-power dissipative soliton resonance fiber laser with compact linear-cavity configuration

    摘要: An ultra-compact mode-locked Yb-doped fiber laser under the operation regime of dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) has been demonstrated, which exports sub-nanoscond pulses with a maximum output average power of 2.4 W. The linear-cavity configuration of the proposed fiber laser is formed by a highly reflective fiber Bragg grating at 1066 nm and a nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM) consisting of a 5/95 optical coupler. As a result, DSR pulses with maximum average power of 2.4 W and repetition rate of 10.119 MHz have been obtained, when pump power is 10 W. The compact DSR Yb-doped fiber laser with high output power have great potential applications in material processing, optical communications, and so on.

  • Ultrafast soliton and stretched-pulse switchable mode-locked fiber laser with hybrid structure of multimode fiber based saturable absorber

    摘要: We demonstrate an all-fiber mode locked laser based on hybrid structure of multimode fiber saturable absorber (SA) that can realize both conventional soliton and stretched-pulse states. Stable 16.44 MHz conventional soliton pulses are achieved by injecting 80 mW threshold pump power. By increasing the incident pump power to 420 mW, the laser evolves from soliton operation into stretched-pulse mode locking state. 310 fs stretched-pulse are obtained with the same repetition rate as the soliton pulses. The center wavelength and its 3 dB spectrum bandwidth are 1603 nm and 14.2 nm, respectively. For the first time, we experimentally confirm transition between conventional soliton and stretched-pulse in 1.5 μm mode-locked fiber laser by introducing multimode optical fiber SA. Moreover, the maximum single pulse energy of nearly 1 nJ is achieved. Such all-fiber mode-locked lasers based on hybrid structure of multimode fiber are attractive for practical applications without damage and the limitation of life time.

  • Ultrafast mode-locked dual-wavelength thulium-doped fiber laser using a Mach-Zehnder interferometric filter

    摘要: A simple and robust method to generate a dual-wavelength mode-locked laser using a tunable Mach-Zehnder filter (TMZF) and a single-wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) based saturable absorber (SA) is proposed and demonstrated. The proposed laser uses a thulium-doped fiber for lasing in the two-micron region and exploits the interferometric spectrum of the TMZF to produce dual peaks with nearly equal magnitude. SWCNT based SA enables mode-locking at a threshold value of 150.4 mW with distinct dual-wavelength peaks at 1919.2 nm and 1963.7 nm. The peaks have a calculated pulse width of 1.8 ps and 1.6 ps, respectively with a repetition rate of 9.1 MHz with a relatively high optical-signal-to-noise ratio value of 59.1 dB. The output is also observed to remain unchanged over time, indicating high stability. The proposed laser has a promising application, particularly in ultrafast gas molecular spectroscopy and sensing.

  • L-Band Efficient Dissipative Soliton Erbium-Doped Fiber Laser with a Pulse Energy of 6.15 nJ and 3 dB Bandwidth of 47.8 nm

    摘要: Here, an efficient dissipative soliton mode-locked fiber laser in the L-band using nonlinear polarization rotation technology is demonstrated. With a maximum pump power of 495.3 mW and polarization state optimization, the fiber laser delivers a maximum output power of 68.6 mW with an 11.16 MHz repetition rate and a corresponding single pulse energy of 6.15 nJ. The dissipative soliton spectrum is centered at 1599.6 nm with a 3 dB bandwidth of 47.8 nm. The full width at half maximum of the compressed pulse is 156 fs. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest single pulse energy reported so far for an L-band passively mode-locked all-fiber laser.

  • Mode-locked thulium doped fiber laser with zinc oxide saturable absorber for 2?μm operation

    摘要: In this work, a 2.0-micron mode-locked thulium doped fiber laser is demonstrated using zinc oxide (ZnO) as the saturable absorber (SA) in a thulium doped fiber laser (TDFL). The ZnO nanorods was prepared by the facile hydrothermal method, and then embedded in polyethylene oxide composite film to form the SA. The laser is capable of generating soliton pulses at a central wavelength of 1945.45 nm with a 3-dB bandwidth of 3.47 nm. The pulse width is measured to be 1.395 ps, only slightly higher than the calculated transform-limited pulse width of 1.15 ps. The peak power of the generated mode-locked pulses is then calculated to be as high as 41.88 W, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 50.5 dB. The fabricated ZnO film in this work would allow the generation of mode-locked pulses, which could be useful for applications in spectroscopy and medicine due to the eye-safe and highly sensitive nature of the 2.0-micron region.

  • 25 nJ, 634 ps and 1 MHz all-fiber passively mode-locked fiber laser based on a GaAs saturable absorber

    摘要: We demonstrate an all-fiber passively mode-locked Tm-Ho co-doped fiber laser based on a GaAs saturable absorber (SA) fiber laser at 1875.2 nm. With a 10% output coupler, the fiber laser outputs 1.13 MHz, 634 ps and 25 nJ pulses at 1875.2 nm with a 3 dB-bandwidth of 18.4 nm. The Q-switched mode-locking (QML), the mode-locking at fundamental repetition rate (FRR) and the mode-locking at second harmonic of repetition rate (SHRR) are also observed with the increase of the pump power. The main reason of the SHRR is soliton pulse energy quantization effect.

  • Switchable multi-wavelength and tunable wavelength spacing erbium-doped fiber laser based on a phase-shifted fiber Bragg grating combined with a Mach-Zehnder interferometer

    摘要: A switchable multi-wavelength fiber laser with tunable wavelength spacing is proposed. It is based on a structure filter composed of a phase-shifted fiber Bragg grating (PSFBG) and a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI), and the MZI is fabricated by splicing a section of polarization-maintaining fiber with two segments of multi-mode fibers. By adjusting the variable optical attenuator in the cavity and slightly changing the temperature, stable single-, dual-, triple- and quadruple-wavelength emissions can be obtained. The minimum wavelength spacing of adjacent peaks is 0.176 nm, and the maximum is 17.86 nm. The laser line emissions can be switched from 1527.684 nm to 1550.224 nm with optical signal to noise ratio of more than 50 dB. The maximum wavelength fluctuation of the fiber laser is less than 0.025 nm over 50 min. When the strain applied to the filter is changed, the tunable wavelength spacing can be achieved. The wavelength spacing of dual-wavelength laser can be continuously tuned from 21.82 nm to 22.69 nm by applying strain of 0–258 με to the filter.

  • Dispersion independent mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser with a chirped fiber Bragg grating

    摘要: We propose and demonstrate a dispersion-independent erbium-doped mode-locked fiber laser by incorporating a chirped fiber Bragg grating (CFBG) into the laser cavity. Our experimental results show that the fiber laser has similar output characteristics, no matter which section of the CFBG is connected to the laser cavity through a circulator, i.e., opposite dispersion is introduced into the laser cavity. Dispersion independent feature is attributed to the relatively large nonlinearity of the laser cavity with certain bandwidth. This enriches the laser dynamics and provides a new idea for the design of new lasers.
