  • A molecularly imprinted modified CdSeS/ZnS core–shell quantum dot embedded glass slide for highly selective and sensitive solid phase optosensing of trace amounts of lidocaine in biological samples

    摘要: An optosensing material based on surface functionalization of a glass slide by quantum dots (QDs) and molecularly imprinted polymer (glass slide@QDs@MIP) with unique optical properties of QDs and selective recognition of MIPs was fabricated for the determination of lidocaine in biological samples. Firstly, CdSeS/ZnS quantum dots were covalently attached to a glass slide surface. Then a molecularly imprinted polymer layer, using lidocaine as the template, was embedded onto the modified surface of the glass slide@QDs by copolymerization to prepare a solid phase glass slide@QDs@MIP sensor. The proposed sensor was more strongly quenched by lidocaine than the non-imprinted polymer (glass slide@QDs@NIP) indicating selective recognition of lidocaine by glass slide@QDs@MIP. The main effecting parameters on the extraction and recognition of lidocaine such as the pH of the sample solution and reaction time were investigated and optimized. Under optimal conditions, the synthesized MIP optosensing sensor offered good response for lidocaine with the linear range varying from 0.002-1.0 μM and a correlation coefficient of 0.9991. The limit of detection (3Sb/m) of the method and limit of quantification (10Sb/m) were 6.3 × 10-4 and 2.0 × 10-3 μM, respectively. The intra-day and inter-day RSDs were 1.9% and 4.4%, respectively. The proposed sensor was practically applicable to detection a trace amount of lidocaine in real biological samples (urine and plasma) with satisfactory recoveries in the range of 96.7-105.4% and RSDs between 1.8-4.9%. The sensor showed obvious advantages such as photostability, simple and rapid detection of lidocaine in complex matrices and specific recognition toward lidocaine.

  • Drug-releasing Biopolymeric Structures Manufactured via Stereolithography

    摘要: Additive manufacturing (AM) techniques, such as stereolithography (SLA), enable the preparation of designed complex structures. AM has gained interest especially in the tissue engineering field due to the possibility to manufacture patient specific implants. However, AM could be useful also in controlled drug release applications, since the size and shape of the device, pore architecture and surface to volume ratio can be accurately designed. In this study, SLA was used to prepare polycaprolactone scaffold structures containing the model drug lidocaine. The release of lidocaine was studied and the influence of porosity and surface to volume ratio of structures to the drug release was analyzed. Porous samples released lidocaine faster compared to solid ones, whereas the degree of porosity and surface to volume ratio did not have a clear effect on the drug release profile.

  • EMLA-induced methemoglobinemia after laser-assisted hair removal procedure

    摘要: This is the case of a 23-year-old female with a past medical history of ADHD and Depression who was evaluated in the emergency department for perioral cyanosis and hypoxia after application of the eutectic mixture of lidocaine and prilocaine (EMLA) local anesthetic prior to a laser-assisted hair removal procedure. This report illustrates a case of methemoglobinemia which is a rare but signi?cant complication of topical anesthetic use.

  • P‐9.2: Role of interlayers in inorganic perovskite thin films LEDs

    摘要: Introduction: Finger injuries are commonly attended to in the emergency department, and digital nerve block is a frequently performed procedure for such injuries. This study compared the efficacy levels of the subcutaneous method according to the different injection sites. Method: This was a simulation study for medical students who rendered medical service at the emergency department. One group performed subcutaneous injection of lidocaine at the volar side of the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint, while another group injected at the volar side of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint. The time to anesthesia was measured at 30-s intervals. Pain at the injection site was measured using the numeric rating scale (NRS), while the length from the fingertip to the injection site and the circumference of the injection site were measured. Results: A total of 82 participants were included, with 41 under the MCP joint group and the rest under the PIP joint group. The mean length from the fingertip to the needling point was 3.62 ± 0.63 cm in the PIP joint group and 5.90 ± 0.65 cm in the MCP joint group, while the mean circumference of the needling point was 4.93 ± 0.51 and 5.61 ± 0.58 cm, and the mean time to anesthesia was 2.55 ± 1.11 and 3.79 ± 1.28 min (p-value < 0.001), respectively. The median value of NRS was 4 in both groups (p-value = 0.921). Length was correlated with the time to anesthesia (p-value = 0.018). Conclusion: Injection into the PIP joint showed the same anesthetic effect as injection into the MCP joint, but this effect occurred faster in the former.
