Convolution neural network-based time-domain equalizer for DFT-Spread OFDM VLC system
摘要: This paper presents a novel time-domain equalizer for visible light communication (VLC) system using machine learning (ML) method. In this work, we employ discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM) as modem scheme and convolution neural network (CNN) as kernel processing unit of equalizer. After estimating channel state information (CSI) from training sequence, the proposed equalizer recovers transmitted symbols according to the estimated CSI. Numerical simulations indicate that the equalizer can significantly enhance bit error rate (BER) performance. For example, when signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is 20dB and 16/32/64-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) is exploited, original BER is about 0.5 while the BER after recovery achieves 10?5, which is much lower than forward error correction (FEC) limit 3.8×10?3. This work promotes the application of ML in VLC domain. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time a CNN-based equalizer has been explored.

Outage of SEE-OFDM VLC-NOMA Networks
摘要: In this letter, an indoor spectrally and energy efficient orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (SEE-OFDM) based visible light communication (VLC) network with non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is studied. An exact expression of the outage probability for K NOMA users is derived. We also provide an upper bound of the data rate of the SEE-OFDM VLC-NOMA network. Finally, the proposed system model shows its superiority compared to the orthogonal multiple access.

摘要: We introduce BackVLC, a system to connect battery-free IoT tags using LED bulbs. We make use of bulbs beyond illumination. We send data to the tags with visible light communication (VLC), and retrofit the bulbs with simple circuitry to enable the uplink channel current VLC systems lack, using Radio Frequency (RF) backscatter communication from the tags. Tags process and send data, harvesting energy from light and radio. We present our system design and implementation, evaluate it in preliminary simulation studies and experiments, and discuss the research challenges to develop a complete network architecture. BackVLC is the first work that combines VLC with RF backscatter.

Enhanced inter-lighting interference cancellation using power control to improve the performance of indoor visible light communication systems
摘要: In this study, the authors propose an enhanced inter-lighting interference cancellation (E-ILIC) in order to distinguish the received signals, combating the equal powers at the receiver side and hence improve the average bit error rate (BER) performance of a multiple-input-single-output visible light communication (VLC) system. VLC is a promising technology for indoor environments, it makes use of the light emitting diode (LED) lamps already installed to transmit information through the visible light. When several LEDs transmit simultaneously different data to increase the transmission capacity, it leads to co-channel interference that degrades the BER performance. For this reason, they investigate E-ILIC that is a combination of ILIC with closed loop power control to receive the signals with different power level. It employs power allocation at the transmitter when the received power ratio does not comply with a specific threshold. Furthermore, it reduces significantly the interference between adjacent LED lamps, obtaining useful information at the receiver side. Through computer simulations, E-ILIC achieves the best average BER performance in any user position when the assignment of the power weights is correctly performed on the LEDs.

摘要: Multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) techniques have recently been proposed to improve the spectral ef?ciency of the conventional carrierless amplitude and phase (CAP) implementation modulation scheme while maintaining its simplicity in visible light communication (VLC). The proposed MIMO CAP uses the optimum Maximum Likelihood (ML) detection scheme which has high computational complexity. As a result, four practical, low-complexity detection schemes are investigated for MIMO CAP in this work and their performances are compared with that of ML. It is found that the minimum mean square error detection with optimally-ordered successive interference cancellation (MMSE-OSIC) offers the best choice between complexity and bit-error rate (BER) performance. To achieve a spectral ef?ciency of 8 bits/s/Hz at BER of 10?4 in a 4 × 8 MIMO CAP system, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) requirement of the MMSE-OSIC is 5 dB higher than that of the optimum ML receiver. However, the ML receiver’s complexity is an order of magnitude higher than that of the MMSE-OSIC.

摘要: This paper investigates the impact of solar irradiance and fog condition on visible light communication (VLC) based car-to car (C2C) communication for two capital cities, New Delhi and London. The bit error rate (BER) variation over a day has been compared for both the cities for the month of March, June and December. It has been shown that for a given BER threshold performance, the impact of solar irradiance is more pronounced in month of June especially at New Delhi when solar irradiance reaches its peak. It has also been shown that in month of December, fog is one of the most significant climatic factors that greatly influences the VLC based C2C communication in terms of atmospheric attenuation. This paper also establishes the relationship for the minimum safety distance required between cars based on two-second rule, car speed and angle between cars. The minimum safety distance which would be required to avoid any rear-end collision especially during light or dense fog in the month of December has also been compared for New Delhi and London.

摘要: In visible light communication in which information is superimposed on light, its communication range is visible. On the other hand, when the modulation that brightness is changed according to information is used, it is not good for the human eye because human feels flicker for the changed brightness. In this paper, we propose a novel modulation that can vary the brightness other than 1/4 or 3/4 by combining these pulse position modulation and inverted pulse position modulation. We have two experiments; one is the evaluation for visual flicker by human eye and the other is its communication performance.

摘要: In this work the design of a transmitter and receiver for indoor visible light positioning is elaborated. The dedicated design is then deployed to conduct measurements to obtain the estimated distance between transmitter and receiver. The results show that the error on the distance estimation between transmitter and receiver is below 3 cm for a realistic setting and good overall performance is achieved. Some additional measurements are done near a re?ecting surface to estimate the in?uence of the none-line of sight component on the received optical power.

摘要: In this paper an optical indoor positioning system is proposed, which utilizes modulated LED lights as anchor points, deployed in known positions. The sensor, deployed on the tracked object (e.g. autonomous vehicle), is an ordinary camera facing upwards. The system is able to estimate the position and orientation of the moving object in real-time, based on the camera’s image stream, containing images of the anchor points. The paper contains comprehensive analysis on the possible error sources and their effect on the positioning accuracy. Real measurement tests show that the accuracy of the system is in the low centimeter range even if the tracked camera moves with a speed of 1 m/s.

Downlink resource allocation for dynamic TDMA-based VLC systems
摘要: Visible light communications (VLC) in general and resource allocation for VLC networks particularly have gained lots of attention recently. In this work, we consider the resource allocation problem of a VLC downlink transmission system employing dynamic time division multiple access where time and power variables are tuned to maximize spectral ef?ciency (SE). As for the operational conditions, we impose constraints on the average optical intensity, the energy budget and the quality-of-service. To solve the non-convex problem, we transform the objective function into a difference of concave functions by solving a second order differential inequality. Then, we propose a low-complexity algorithm to solve the resource allocation problem. Finally, we show by simulations the SE performance gains achieved by optimizing time and power allocation over the initial total power minimization solution for the considered system.
