  • Work performance in relation to lighting environment in office buildings

    摘要: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of lighting environment on the work performance. Orthogonal experiments with three-factor and three-level for each factor were designed and carried out in a laboratory aiming to reveal the relationship between lighting illuminance (ILL), uniformity of illuminance (U-ILL), correlated colour temperature (CCT) and workers’ productivity. Twenty-four participants’ work performance was evaluated by subjective questionnaires, objective physiological tests, accompanied with computerized neuro-behavioural tests assessing six kinds of neuro-behavioural functions. Results illustrate that when exposed to high ILL, U-ILL and CCT environment, participants reported highest satisfaction on productivity and attention, while lowest score on stress, difficulty of conducting work and fatigue. The range value and variance analysis from neuro-behavioural tests demonstrated the appropriate level of each factor and the optimal combination. However, they varied with the type of tests illustrating that lighting conditions could influence neuro-behavioural functions differentially. The improvements of perception, learning and memory function of participants were benefited from high ILL, high U-ILL and high/medium CCT. Low ILL, low U-ILL and moderate CCT were appropriate to increase participants’ thinking and executive performance. Moreover, high quality of tear film crystallization was related to higher illuminance. The present study suggests that it is necessary to design personalized illumination environment for particular workplace.

    摘要: The paper presents a results of software calculation and experimental measurement determination of unified glare rating (UGR) for two teacher rooms in an educational building. Three-dimensional computer modeling and multivariate UGR software calculation with light-emitting diode luminaires having different lighting distributions and taking into account the actual position and the line of sight of the observer are performed. A methodology for experimental measurement and determination of UGR has been proposed and demonstrated for the same two rooms. The results are presented in tabular and graphical form. A comparative analysis of the results obtained from the software calculations and the experimental determination of UGR is carried out. Conclusions have been made about the influence on the accuracy of the URG values obtained of the light distribution type of the luminaires, the location and orientation of the line of sight of the observer, and the choice of the background luminance surface.

  • Hierarchical Bayesian Inverse Lighting of Portraits with a Virtual Light Stage

    摘要: From a single RGB image of an unknown face, taken under unknown conditions, we estimate a physically plausible lighting model. First, the 3D geometry and texture of the face are estimated by fitting a 3D Morphable Model to the 2D input. With this estimated 3D model and a Virtual Light Stage (VLS), we generate a gallery of images of the face with all the same conditions, but different lighting. We consider non-lambertian reflectance and non-convex geometry to handle more realistic illumination effects in complex lighting conditions. Our hierarchical Bayesian approach automatically suppresses inconsistencies between the model and the input. It estimates the RGB values for the light sources of a VLS to reconstruct the input face with the estimated 3D face model. We discuss the relevance of the hierarchical approach to this minimally constrained inverse rendering problem and show how the hyperparameters can be controlled to improve the results of the algorithm for complex effects, such as cast shadows. Our algorithm is a contribution to single image face modeling and analysis, provides information about the imaging condition and facilitates realistic reconstruction of the input image, relighting, lighting transfer and lighting design.

    摘要: The urgency of the problem is caused by the need to develop and implement energy-efficient and energy-reducing technologies, as one of the priority strategies for innovative development of the Russian Federation, and the lack of energy efficient lighting control systems, which consume up to 30% of the generated electricity. The aim of the research is to develop an energy-efficient indoor lighting control system for the production facility. The research methods are fuzzy modeling and the Mamdani fuzzy inference method, implemented in the Delphi programming environment. The main results of the research: a new method for energy-efficient control of the capacity of indoor lighting facilities is proposed. It differs from existing ones in that the control effect is created by forming two input signals from measuring sensors: lighting and people present, taking into account the regulated standards of production illumination. A new mathematical model for determining the optimal value of the power consumption by the indoor lighting facilities of production facilities is developed on the basis of the Mamdani fuzzy inference method. A hardware-software stand was developed for carrying out experimental studies.

  • Benefits, problems and challenges of plant factories with artificial lighting (PFALs): a short review

    摘要: The benefits and problems to be solved and challenges for plant factories with artificial lighting (PFALs) are discussed. The benefits include high resource-use efficiency, high annual productivity per unit land area, and production of high-quality plants without using pesticides, regardless of weather. A major problem to be solved is high initial investment and operation costs. Challenges for the next-generation smart PFALs include the introduction of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence with the use of big data, genomics and phenomics (or methodologies and protocols for noninvasive measurement of plant-specific traits related to plant structure and function).

  • A review on smart application of supplemental lighting in greenhouse fruiting vegetable production

    摘要: Different spectra of light trigger different plant growth processes. Therefore, the optimum light spectrum for various plant physiological and growth processes may be different. For greenhouse fruiting vegetables, such as tomatoes, it is important to optimize light spectrum to promote canopy growth to increase light interception during the early stage of plant growth. Once the plants reach full canopy, the focus should be moved to optimizing vertical light distribution because most greenhouse fruiting vegetables are tall crops and the growth processes along the vertical profile are different; most of the canopy growth occurs in the top and middle canopy while fruit growth occurs in the middle and bottom canopy. Because the fruit, not the leaf, is the economic product, the optimized light spectral composition should enhance leaf carbon export and translocation to fruit to improve fruit yield and quality. Therefore, a research project was initiated in 2013 to identify proper light spectral composition and vertical distribution regimes for greenhouse fruiting vegetable production. Different overhead light sources (high-pressure sodium light with or without far-red light-emitting diode (LED) light, plasma light and different spectral compositions of LEDs) and several intra-canopy spectral compositions provided by LEDs were evaluated over four winters on tomatoes, mini-cucumbers and sweet peppers. The effects of light spectrum on whole-plant net carbon exchange and leaf carbon export using 14C-isotype tracing were also investigated. The vertical light regimes resulted in significant differences in leaf photosynthetic rate, leaf size, fruit yield and fruit quality in greenhouse tomatoes, mini-cucumbers and sweet peppers. Proper vertical light regimes were identified for hybrid light systems (overhead high intensity discharge light + intra-canopy LEDs) and for pure LED light systems (overhead + intra-canopy LEDs). This review clearly demonstrates that optimized vertical light regimes can be developed for improving both plant growth and fruit yield and quality in year-round greenhouse fruiting vegetable production.

  • Supplemental lighting applied within or underneath the canopy enhances leaf photosynthesis, stomatal regulation and plant development of tomato under limiting light conditions

    摘要: Intensive crop cultivation in greenhouses results in insufficient light to plants, which decreases plant photosynthesis and growth and results in reduced crop productivity and reduced economic benefit. Foliar supplemental lighting to leaves in the lower canopy is considered an effective method to cope with the stress of insufficient light on plants. Leaf photosynthesis, stomatal regulation, and growth of tomato plants were examined to estimate the effect of supplemental lighting from underneath the canopy (USL) with light orientation to the abaxial side and from the inner canopy (ISL) with light orientation to the adaxial side. Both treatments significantly improved light irradiation conditions in the lower canopy and promoted growth and photosynthesis of tomato plants. USL maintains a relatively steady light irradiation level in the lower canopy and promotes better photosynthetic and morphologic enhancement than ISL. The improved photosynthesis in plants treated with ISL resulted from larger stomatal pore area and higher stomatal conductance which enhanced carbon dioxide supply promoting photosynthetic electron transport activity. Meanwhile, USL enhanced carbon dioxide assimilation efficiency rather than stomatal morphology regulation to improve plant photosynthesis.

  • Smart lighting as basic building block of smart city: An energy performance comparative case study

    摘要: The aim of this work is to simulate and compare the energy savings potentially applicable to the consumption data of the Smart Street pilot system located at the ENEA Casaccia R.C. (Rome). The astronomical lighting system energy consumption (baseline) is compared to the simulation of a pre-defined regulation: it allows the lights dimming (and therefore a reduction of consumptions) based on a statistics average of the traffic flow rate, differentiated according to the day of the week. Then the baseline consumption is compared to the simulation of an adaptive configuration based on the traffic flow rate.
