Speed breeding short-day crops by LED-controlled light schemes
摘要: Key message A simple and rapid speed breeding system was developed for short-day crops that enables up to five generations per year using LED lighting systems that allow very specific adjustments regarding light intensity and quality. Abstract Plant breeding is a key element for future agricultural production that needs to cope with a growing human population and climate change. However, the process of developing suitable cultivars is time-consuming, not least because of the long generation times of crops. Recently, speed breeding has been introduced for long-day crops, but a similar protocol for short-day crops is lacking to date. In this study, we present a speed breeding protocol based on light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that allow to modify light quality, and exemplarily demonstrate its effectiveness for the short-day crops soybean (Glycine max), rice (Oryza sativa) and amaranth (Amaranthus spp.). Adjusting the photoperiod to 10 h and using a blue-light enriched, far-red-deprived light spectrum facilitated the growth of short and sturdy soybean plants that flowered ~ 23 days after sowing and matured within 77 days, thus allowing up to five generations per year. In rice and amaranth, flowering was achieved ~ 60 and ~ 35 days after sowing, respectively. Interestingly, the use of far-red light advanced flowering by 10 and 20 days in some amaranth and rice genotypes, respectively, but had no impact on flowering in soybeans, highlighting the importance of light quality for speed breeding protocols. Taken together, our short-day crops’ speed breeding protocol enables several generations per year using crop-specific LED-based lighting regimes, without the need of tissue culture tools such as embryo rescue. Moreover, this approach can be readily applied to a multi-storey 96-cell tray-based system to integrate speed breeding with genomics, toward a higher improvement rate in breeding.

GreenLight a?? An open source model for greenhouses with supplemental lighting: Evaluation of heat requirements under LED and HPS lamps
摘要: Greenhouse models are important tools for the analysis and design of greenhouse systems and for offering decision support to growers. While many models are available, relatively few include the influence of supplementary lighting on the greenhouse climate and crop. This study presents GreenLight, a model for greenhouses with supplemental lighting. GreenLight extends state of the art models by describing the qualitative difference between the common lighting system of high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamps, and the newest technology for horticultural lighting - the light-emitting diodes (LEDs). LEDs differ from HPS lamps in that they operate at lower temperatures, emit mostly convective heat and relatively little radiative heat, and can be more efficient in converting electricity to photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). These differences can have major implications on the greenhouse climate and operation, and on the amount of heat that must be supplied from the greenhouse heating system. Model predictions have been evaluated against data collected in greenhouse compartments equipped with HPS and LED lamps. The model predicted the greenhouse's heating needs with an error of 8e51 W m-2, representing 1e12% of the measured values; the RMSE for indoor temperature was 1.74e2.04 °C; and the RMSE for relative humidity was 5.52e8.5%. The model is freely available as open source MATLAB software at https://github.com/davkat1/GreenLight. It is hoped that it may be further evaluated and used by researchers worldwide to analyse the influence of the most recent lighting technologies on greenhouse climate control.

Photoluminescence properties of Ca3B2O6: RE3+ (RE = Dy and Eu) phosphors for ecofrindly solid state lighting
摘要: The phosphors Ca3B2O6:Dy3+ and Ca3B2O6:Eu3+ were prepared by a combustion method. The phosphor was characterized for X- ray diffraction and photoluminescence. The XRD is well matched with the standard JCPDS. Ca3B2O6:Dy3+ phosphor shows two emission bands centered at 481nm and 577nm corresponding to transitions 4F9/2 → 6H15/2 and 4F9/2 → 6H13/2 respectively. Eu3+ doped Ca3B2O6 phosphor gives emission centered at 588nm, 597nm, 614nm and 627 nm having excitation at 396nm. Concentration quenching effect was observed in both the phosphors. Photoluminescence results suggest that phosphor could be used as ecofriendly solid state lighting applications.

Three-Legs Interleaved Boost Power Factor Corrector for High-Power LED Lighting Application
摘要: In this article, a three-leg interleaved boost Power Factor Corrector (IBPFC) converter for energy-efficient LED lighting systems connected to the main grid was discussed. This IBPFC circuit presented features 60 kHz of commutation frequency and up to 3 kW of power rating. The controlled rectifier front-end boost PFC supplied a DC/DC converter to drive power LEDs suitable for street lighting or a lighting system for a stadium, etc. The IBPFC operated in continuous current mode (CCM). The ripple impact of the IBPFC converter was analyzed and a novel methodology of inductance design was presented. In the proposed design approach, the derivative calculation of the current ripple peak compared with the derivative of the input current was used to define a critical inductance value to ensure the CCM condition. Experimental validation was provided on a 3kW prototype.

Study of road tunnel threshold zone lighting reduction coefficient; 公路隧道入口段亮度折减系数研究;
摘要: The luminance in the road tunnel threshold zone attracts broad attention due to its enormous energy consumption and direct influence on tunnel transportation security. Current lighting design methods in threshold zones mostly adopt the reduction coefficient method. However, the determination of reduction coefficient k simply considers tunnel design speed and flow rate, while excluding outside tunnel luminance and threshold zone color temperature and luminance, which have a major impact on driver visual adaptation. Existing problems in the determination of k value are analyzed; a visual performance experiment is utilized; and the reaction time of drivers in changeable outside tunnel luminance and threshold zone color temperature and luminance conditions is obtained; thus, the equations concerning reduction coefficient variation law are derived. In the end, a comparative analysis is made of the k values of the reduction coefficient stipulated by various norms under different color temperature conditions.

摘要: The paper provides a detailed analysis of traffic accidents in the Czech Republic, which will serve as one of the input materials for the preparation of the national methodology for the selection of lighting classes for public lighting based on the administrative classification of roads in the Czech Republic. For the analysis of traffic accidents a detailed data of traffic accidents from the statistics of the Police of the Czech Republic in the time period from 2013 to 2017 are used. Traffic accidents are analysed according to the location of the accident, i.e. a straight road section, a road curve, an traffic junction, time interval during the night hours, the road category, the size of the municipality or the severity of the accident. The number of traffic accidents lighting operation is also compared with the total number of traffic accidents during the day and outside municipalities. The results of the analysis will be used in the selection system of lighting classes for each traffic road category, for setting the parameters in the conflict area and it will be used also for setting rules for adaptive lighting levels during night hours.

Opinion: Lighting for health (good or bad)
摘要: I have had the privilege to serve as Director of CIE Division 6 ‘Photobiology and Photochemistry’ since 2011. My two terms will end at the next CIE Quadrennial Session in Washington DC in 2019. Division 6 has historically concentrated on the adverse effects of optical radiation on people, publishing standards for the UV erythema action spectrum, non-melanoma skin cancer action spectrum and S009 on the photobiological safety of lamps and lamp systems (adopted by IEC as IEC 62471). During my tenure, although the concerns about harm have remained, there has been a greater focus on how light may be used to benefit humans, beyond vision. Manufacturers of lighting products, designers and installers all want to market their products or services to show how they can benefit the occupants of the lit space. It was becoming very clear that many claims were not supported by robust science.

Correspondence: Disturbance of vision by after-images from LED light sources
摘要: Modern LED-lighting for roads and tunnels causes difficulties for authorities and for users. The causes differ from the usual disturbance caused by glare, dazzle and flicker. Based on casual real world observations, it is felt that a cause might be the occurrence of after-images. After-images are, of course, a well-known and well-established visual phenomenon going back more than two centuries to the times of Goethe, Fechner and Helmholtz. After-images persist for a period that may, depending on the circumstances, amount to many minutes and even to hours. They are either positive or negative, and they may exhibit colour phenomena. Under road and street lighting using traditional gas-discharge light sources, after-images may be disregarded because of their limited duration and severity. However, modern LED lighting is different.

LED Area Lighting to Reduce Glare for Roof Bolter Operators
摘要: Researchers from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) developed a light-emitting diode (LED) area luminaire called the Saturn and conducted a laboratory study using a Fletcher High Dual-boom Mast Feed (HDDR) roof bolting machine. The Saturn luminaire was designed to (1) enhance floor illumination to enable better detection of trip hazards in the interior spaces of a roof bolter and (2) reduce glare that has typically been an issue of concern on roof bolters. This paper reports on the results of achieving the second objective. The existing roof bolter lighting was the baseline and was compared with three versions of the Saturn luminaire relative to light intensity (100%, 75%, and 50%). Discomfort and disability glare data were obtained from 30 participants that comprised three age groups. Discomfort glare perceptions were obtained using the De Boer rating scale, and disability glare was quantified by using Mars Letter Contrast Sensitivity tests. Discomfort glare was reduced at least 3 levels with all Saturn versions. Also, a predictive model was used to estimate discomfort glare, and the results were similar. Disability glare was the least for the Saturn’s 50% intensity, and all Saturn versions had significantly less disability glare than with the baseline lighting. Veiling luminance was calculated and used as another indicator of disability glare. Veiling luminance was 28 to 42 times greater with the baseline lighting as compared with that of the Saturn lighting. Lastly, visibility levels were calculated. The Saturn versions were 4 to 6.5 times better in terms of visibility level.

摘要: Global population growth and the ongoing climate crisis pose immense risk to the stable food supplies in the future. We have developed a small hydroponic plant cultivation system to ensure even in extreme circumstances. To build a sustainable system, we have utilized an LED lighting system together with conserved energy generated by sunlight. Such hydroponic plant cultivation systems have to operate at an affordable yet efficient principle. In this paper, we examine experimental results of the relationship between LED energy consumption and plant growth in a hydroponic plant cultivation system. LED light intensity directly correlates to electrical power consumed. Energy consumption is the result of electrical power consumed over a period of time. Three experiments with varying conditions utilizing constant electrical energy consumption were conducted. Case-1: Electric power is kept low and the lighting duration is long; Case-2: the electric power is set to medium and the lighting duration is medium; Case-3: the electric power is large and the lighting duration is short. As a result of evaluating the weight of grown lettuces, it was found that lettuce growth is excellent in Case-1. It means that the longer the LED irradiation duration, the better the plant growth even under the same energy consumption conditions.
