摘要: Most applications based on wireless sensor networks (WSN) have devices with constraints of limited energy and computational/storage capabilities. The traditional security mechanisms are not desirable to these applications. A lightweight security and energy-efficient clustering protocol was proposed in this paper to solve the security problem in the clustering-based sensor networks. Firstly, a lightweight security algorithm is proposed to meet the security requirements, which reduces the communication overload by using the transmission key index. Secondly, in the process of clustering, the base station (BS) and cluster head (CH) use lightweight authentication procedure to verify the identities hierarchically, to reduce the risk of attacks from malicious nodes posing as BS or CH. Thirdly, the proposed protocol is analyzed in the aspects of security and energy consumption. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol not only enhances the network security but also improves the energy efficiency.

Lightweight Design of Multi-Objective Topology for a Large-Aperture Space Mirror
摘要: For a large-aperture space telescope, one of the key techniques is the method for designing the lightweight primary mirror assembly (PMA). In order to minimize the mirror surface error under axial gravity, lateral gravity, and polishing pressure at the same time, a method for topology optimization with multi-objective function combined with parametric optimization is introduced in this paper. The weighted compliance minimum is selected as the objective function to maximum the mirror structural stiffness. Then sensitivity analysis method and size optimization are used to determine the mirror structure parameters. Compared with two types of commonly used lightweight configurations, the new configuration design shows obvious superiority. In addition, the surface figure root mean square (RMS) of the mirror mounted by given bipod flexure (BF) under 1 g lateral gravity is minimized only with a value of 3.58 nm, which proves the effectiveness of the design method proposed in this paper.

摘要: In this study, the newly developed lightweight light-buoys, combined with 7 nautical mile self-contained power lantern, are firstly introduced. To reduce the total weight, EPP(Expanded polypropylene) and aluminum are applied for the buoyant body and tower structure, respectively. The new self-contained light system, of which weight is 10% of conventional power-separated light system, is adopting solar cells, high performance batteries, LED light emitters and so on. Hydrostatic calculations and motion analysis of the buoy under various environmental conditions are carried out to find the optimum draft and mass of the stabilizing weight, and to estimate the motion of the buoy since there are some requirements for the stability and motion performances.

A Tightly Coupled VLC-Inertial Localization System by EKF
摘要: Spurred by Web technologies and service computing paradigm, more and more Web services have been delivered via standardized interfaces on the Internet. Mashup is exactly an enabling technology for end-users to combine these services into applications. However, there are some issues of end-user service development with mashup techniques. It not only requires users that develop application logics equipped with more or less programming skills, but also lacks a lightweight mashup model and systematic development approach in the existing mashup tools. To address these issues, we propose a data-driven service creation approach to facilitate application development and deployment. In the approach, we propose the service data model (SDM) for adaptation of heterogeneous Web services, the service relation model (SRM) for representation and re?nement of data interaction between services, and the service process graph (SPG) for describing business logics of mashup applications. We develop an IFrame implementation for SDM that can facilitate service providers to wrap heterogeneous Web services in a uni?ed way and display a visual element for the service. Meanwhile, we implement a pipeline as an intuitive form of SRM that can be used by end-users to develop business logic more effectively. To adapt the dynamic application scenarios, we also construct an event-driven execution mechanism for SPG. A lightweight service creation environment is then implemented to support end-users to develop applications in a simulative way, and a corresponding development methodology is introduced for this tool. Finally, the end-user evaluation and performance evaluation are conducted to evaluate our platform.

摘要: A flexible, integrated lightweight and minimally intrusive monitoring system has been developed to assess animals’ behavioral responses. The system consists of wearable composite magnets and a miniaturized wireless communication module with a flexible battery. The shape and size of the NdFeB-PDMS composite magnets are highly versatile, while the magnetic and mechanical properties can be tailored within a wide range by the powder concentration. The magnetic field of the composite magnet is sensed by a 3-axial magnetic sensor, and the measured data is wirelessly transmitted using Bluetooth low energy communication standard to a smartphone and dashboard. To withstand corrosive environments and enhance the durability the composite magnets are coated with 2 μm of Parylene C, while surface passivation of the wireless module is achieved with 5 μm of Parylene C. The system has been implemented for real-time monitoring of crabs, giant turtles, and giant clams, indicating its potential for novel and affordable animal monitoring applications.

Design of a wideband terahertz absorber composed of graphene patches
摘要: Recent advances in motor and gear designs have accelerated the development of multi-degree of freedom prosthetic limbs controlled by novel electromyographic signal processing techniques. Most of these new devices have focused on improved performance at the expense of other critical factors for clinical use, such as weight and bulk, which significantly affect cosmesis and comfort. This paper presents the mechatronic design of an anthropomorphic transhumeral prosthetic arm—the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) arm—that is small enough for a 25th percentile female and weighs only 1518 g. Specifically, we describe the design of the RIC arm, including the integration of custom external rotor motors, cycloid transmissions, nonbackdrivable clutches, and custom pattern recognition control. Mechanics and control performance of the RIC arm were evaluated within the laboratory, and clinical viability was preliminary evaluated during a take-home field trial by an individual with a transhumeral amputation.

Metal Polymer Connections: Laser-Induced Surface Enlargement Increases Joint Strength
摘要: The trend towards hybrid materials consisting of metals and polymers is strongly driven by requirements such as weight reduction and improved functionality. A crucial step towards new hybrid materials is the advancement of joining technology. While metals and polymers are currently often joined using adhesives, this technology has major drawbacks such as long process cycle time, low robustness with regard to changes of the material composition, and are almost impossible to recycle, a point which is becoming increasingly important. A promising joining method is thermal direct joining of metals and thermoplastic polymers due to its fast cycle time, its robustness of the process and the absence of duroplastic adhesives. Direct joining requires surface treatment of the metallic joining partner prior to the thermal joining process to achieve a sufficiently high contact strength. It is known that laser-induced topologies on the metal surface are beneficial with regard to contact strength of the joints. Designing a joint based on laser structured metals requires a fundamental understanding of the interface interactions. The present paper focuses on the influence of surface enlargement on the joint strength. Laser pretreatment was utilized to generate surface structures with specific surface enlargement on the metallic joining partner. The pretreated metallic parts were subsequently joined with a thermoplastic polymer by injection molding. The joint strength was investigated in single lap shear tests. The key finding is that the contact strength increases almost linearly with the surface area within the tested parameter range, while the structure geometry parameters have only a minor influence. This may help as a design guideline for future adhesive-free hybrid material joining technologies.

Thermal joining of thermoplastics to metals: Surface preparation of steel based on laser radiation and tungsten inert gas arc process
摘要: Laser-based joining is a potential key manufacturing process for realizing metal plastic hybrids. Therefore, surface preparation is essential to achieve a mechanical form fit. A new approach for surface preparation is based on a tungsten inert gas (TIG) arc process with anodic polarity. This TIG structure was characterized compared to fiber laser manufactured structures in cw and pw mode. The comparison of different preparations was based on pure ultimate tensile strength tests on spot joints. Finally, a transfer to overlap joints was successfully carried out and characterized by tensile shear tests using fiber reinforced plastics.
