  • An Overview on the Applications of Typical Non-linear Algorithms Coupled With NIR Spectroscopy in Food Analysis

    摘要: Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy as a low-cost technique with its non-destructive fast nature, precision, control, accuracy, repeatability, and reproducibility has been extensively employed in most industries for food quality measurements. Its coupling to different modeling techniques has been identified as a way of improving the accuracy and robustness of non-destructive measurement of foodstuffs. This review provides an overview of the application of non-linear algorithms in food quality and safety specific to NIR spectroscopy. The review also provides in-depth knowledge about the principle of NIR spectroscopy along with different non-linear models such as artificial neural network (ANN), AdaBoost, local algorithm (LA), support vector machine (SVM), and extreme learning machine (ELM). Moreover, non-linear algorithms coupled with NIR spectroscopy for ensuring food quality and their future perspective has been discussed.

    摘要: Linear power supplies for driving light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are preferred for a number of reasons. The complete absence of any electromagnetic interference (EMI) radiation is one important technical reason. Low-overall cost is an important commercial reason. However, they also have disadvantages: in some applications they have low efficiency and hence they introduce thermal problems. It may be necessary to add a heat sink, thus increasing cost and size.

    摘要: Matrix inversion is a fundamental operation for solving linear equations for many computational applications, especially for various emerging big data applications. However, it is a challenging task to invert large-scale matrices of extremely high order (several thousands or millions), which are common in most Web-scale systems, such as social networks and recommendation systems. In this paper, we present a lower upper decomposition-based block-recursive algorithm for large-scale matrix inversion. We present its well-designed implementation with optimized data structure, reduction of space complexity, and effective matrix multiplication on the Spark parallel computing platform. The experimental evaluation results show that the proposed algorithm is efficient to invert large-scale matrices on a cluster composed of commodity servers and is scalable for inverting even larger matrices. The proposed algorithm and implementation will become a solid foundation for building a high-performance linear algebra library on Spark for big data processing and applications.

    摘要: Fast deployment of renewable energy resources in distribution networks, especially solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, have motivated the need for inverter-based voltage regulation. Integration studies are often necessary to fully understand the potential impacts of PV inverter settings on the various elements of the distribution system, including voltage regulators and capacitor banks. A year long quasi-static time series (QSTS) at second-level granularity provides a comprehensive assessment of these impacts, however the computational burden associated with running QSTS limits its applicability. This paper proposes a fast QSTS simulation technique capable of modeling the smart inverter dynamic VAR control functionality and accurately estimating the states of controllable elements including voltage regulators and capacitor banks at each time step. Consequently, the complex interactions between various legacy voltage regulation devices is also captured. The efficacy of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated on the IEEE 13-bus test case with a 98% reduction in computation time.

    摘要: In an acyclic multicast network, it is well known that a linear network coding solution over GF(q) exists when q is sufficiently large. In particular, for each prime power q no smaller than the number of receivers, a linear solution over GF(q) can be efficiently constructed. In this paper, we reveal that a linear solution over a given finite field does not necessarily imply the existence of a linear solution over all larger finite fields. In particular, we prove by construction that: 1) for every ω ≥ 3, there is a multicast network with source outdegree ω linearly solvable over GF(7) but not over GF(8), and another multicast network linearly solvable over GF(16) but not over GF(17); 2) there is a multicast network linearly solvable over GF(5) but not over such GF(q) that q > 5 is a Mersenne prime plus 1, which can be extremely large; 3) a multicast network linearly solvable over GF(q m1 ) and over GF(q m2 ) is not necessarily linearly solvable over GF(q m1+m2 ); and 4) there exists a class of multicast networks with a set T of receivers such that the minimum field size qmin for a linear solution over GF(qmin) is lower bounded by (cid:3)( |T |), but not every larger field than GF(qmin) suffices to yield a linear solution. The insight brought from this paper is that not only the field size but also the order of subgroups in the multiplicative group of a finite field affects the linear solvability of a multicast network.

  • On the spectroscopic cum chemometric approach for differentiation and classification of inkjet, laser and photocopier printed documents

    摘要: The potential of ATR-FTIR spectroscopy combined with chemometric methods is explored for the rapid and no-destructive forensic investigation of inkjet, laser and photocopier printed documents. The aim of the present study is to ascertain the source of origin of unknown printed documents, i.e., whether it belongs to the laser or inkjet or photocopier devices as well asand also to visualize the intra-variations present in the same types of printed documents. It is observed that these printing inks contain polystyrene, bisphenol A, methyl acrylate and aromatic ethers as the main chemical constituents. The standard normal variate normalization is performed in order to eliminate the differences caused by the amount of toner powder/inks. The discrimination among printed documents is achieved by using chemometric methods including hierarchal cluster analysis and principal component analysis. Further, linear discriminant analysis is used to classify the unknown printed documents into its respective class of printing devices. The present methodology provides robust, non-destructive, reproducible, and simultaneous identification methods for printed documents.

    摘要: AC voltage regulation is required in both the domestic and industrial sectors to avoid undesired effects from random voltage variations of the power supply. The paper introduces an ac voltage stabilizer/converter (ACVS) that is based on a controllable autotransformer technology. The proposed ACVS offers a specified strategy of voltage regulation, less harmonics, and low cost. The paper explains the operating principle of the ACVS and derives its nonlinear mathematical model. To ensure the desired performance of the ACVS while it is subject to uncertain input voltage and load variations, an optimal control strategy is designed. It is achieved via transforming the ACVS model extending with fictive axis emulation into a rotating reference frame and the linearization of the model via specific orientation of the reference frame and introducing a linear control action. Operation of the ACVS is simulated under different disturbances due to load and grid voltage changes, and compared to voltage stabilization with application of I and PI controllers. Experimental results are presented to demonstrate the voltage regulation technology.

  • Maize seed classification using hyperspectral image coupled with multi-linear discriminant analysis

    摘要: Seed purity is an important parameter for evaluating seed quality and can be effectively studied by seed classification. Hyperspectral images between 400 and 1000 nm were acquired for 1632 maize seeds (17 varieties) for classifying seed varieties. Fourteen features including a spectral feature and 13 imaging features (i.e., 5 first-order and 8 second-order textural features) were extracted from the hyperspectral image data. A multi-linear discriminant analysis (MLDA) algorithm was developed to select the optimal wavelength and transform/reduce the classification features to improve the acquisition and processing speed of the hyperspectral images. Least square support vector machine was used to develop classification models based on MLDA with spectral features, imaging features, and combination of spectral and imaging features. The effects of MLDA, uninformative variable elimination (UVE) coupled with linear discriminant analysis (LDA), and successive projection algorithm (SPA) coupled with LDA were adopted. Experimental results indicate that the combination feature based on the wavelength selection algorithm of MLDA yielded high classification accuracy under the same number of wavelengths (varying between 5 and 15). Meanwhile, the classification model based on MLDA feature transformation/reduction method achieved superior classification accuracy of 99.13% over SPA coupled with LDA (90.31%) and UVE coupled with LDA (94.17%) and improved by 2.74% relative to that of the mean spectrum of the full wavelength model. The proposed method can be used effectively for seed identification and classification.

    摘要: This paper proposes a photovoltaic power generation forecasting model which improves Multiple Linear Regression method (MLRM) with real-time correction term traditional day-ahead, hourly power (RCT). Firstly, a generation prediction model is developed by MLRM based on qualitative variables (hour, month, weather type), quantitative variable (solar radiation intensity) and physical characteristics of interactions between the variables. Secondly, an improved is presented which adds a model named MLRM+RCT correction term based on shorter real-time measured power data to MLRM to reduce the hourly prediction errors of MLRM. MLRM+RCT is tested based on power generation data released by IEEE Energy Forecasting Group in 2014. The results show that the performance of MLRM+RCT is better than that of MLRM and a benchmark method called exponential smoothing method.

    摘要: This paper presents the results of three control strategies of managed energy services with home energy management system (HEMS)-integrated devices. The HEMS controls and monitors three types of managed devices: 1) heating; 2) task-speci?c; and 3) energy storage devices. Three approaches are proposed for the rolling optimization by the HEMS, namely, mixed integer linear programming (MILP), continuous relaxation (CR), and fuzzy logic controller (FLC). The CR approach is identi?ed to reduce the computational complexity of the MILP by changing the MILP into an LP solution. Three types of FLC control approaches are proposed, namely, heat-related FLC, task-related FLC, and FLC for the battery. Each control strategy is evaluated against cost optimization, computational resource, and practical implementation. The ?ndings in this paper show that all three algorithmic control strategies successfully perform cost optimization, even with inaccurate forecasting information.
