  • Local magnetization of GeTe/Sb <sub/>2</sub> Te <sub/>3</sub> superlattice films using a scanning probe microscope

    摘要: Local magnetization of chalcogenide superlattices (SL) of [(GeTe)2 (Sb2Te3)]n (n=4 and 8) was performed using a magnetic force microscopy (MFM) at room temperature. We show that stripe patterns appeared in MFM phase images after magnetizing of the SL by holding the MFM probe at a short distance to the SL surface at room temperature. The probe-induced stripe pattern remained after storage for several days, and which differs from electric poling. We attributed the SL magnetization to the imbalance in the amount of spin-up and spin-down carriers in helical interface bands under the stray magnetic field.

  • Brightening of a supersonic beam of neutral atoms

    摘要: Well-collimated, high-intensity beams of neutral atoms have many applications ranging from atom microscopy to atom interferometry to ultracold atomic physics. We experimentally demonstrate a method for brightening a supersonic atomic beam and observe an increase in the phase space density by a factor of at least 20. Our scheme relies upon a permanent magnetic hexapole lens to focus a divergent beam of neutral atoms emitted from a supersonic nozzle and transverse laser cooling as the beam converges downstream from the lens so as to create a dense, narrow, Doppler-collimated atomic beam. In principle, this method can be repeated multiple times in series for further beam brightening.

  • Synthesis and photocatalytic activity of composite magnetic photocatalyst Mn <sub/>x</sub> Zn <sub/>1-x</sub> Fe <sub/>2</sub> O <sub/>4</sub> /α-Bi <sub/>2</sub> O <sub/>3</sub>

    摘要: In this paper, a new magnetic photocatalyst MnxZn1-xFe2O4/α-Bi2O3 is synthesized by the dip-calcination technology, using manganese zinc ferrite as a magnetic substrate. It is beneficial to separate the composite from liquid solution under an extra magnetic field. This heterojunction of composite MnxZn1-xFe2O4/α-Bi2O3 presents remarkable photocatalytic activity and prominent photocatalysis for degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB), far exceeding the pure α-Bi2O3. Especially, the introduction of MnxZn1-xFe2O4 not only reduces the bandgap of photocatalyst α-Bi2O3, but also improves its response in the visible region. Importantly, the magnetic photocatalyst is capable of being used repeatedly, and the photocatalytic activity would remain above 90% after 3 cycles. Such an outstanding stability and retrievability of composite are mainly ascribed to the soft-magnetic material MnxZn1-xFe2O4, enhancing separation of photoinduced electron hole pairs. This work will replace the traditional semiconductor photocatalyst for a convenient recycling and removal of contaminants from wastewater in the future.

    摘要: Design guidelines of a circular sector compact planar quasi-isotropic antenna are presented. General relationship between the non-uniformity and flared angle is deduced at first. Then, it is employed to determine the usable flared angle range for non-uniformity <3dB. Based upon the design guidelines, a compact planar quasi-isotropic antenna is conceptually designed and numerically studied. It is seen a circular sector magnetic dipole antenna with flared angle of 300° can exhibit both quasi-isotropic radiation characteristic and compact size.

  • Cavity optomagnonics with magnetic textures: Coupling a magnetic vortex to light

    摘要: Optomagnonic systems, where light couples coherently to collective excitations in magnetically ordered solids, are currently of high interest due to their potential for quantum information processing platforms at the nanoscale. Efforts so far, both at the experimental and theoretical level, have focused on systems with a homogeneous magnetic background. A unique feature in optomagnonics is, however, the possibility of coupling light to spin excitations on top of magnetic textures. We propose a cavity-optomagnonic system with a nonhomogeneous magnetic ground state, namely, a vortex in a magnetic microdisk. In particular, we study the coupling between optical whispering gallery modes to magnon modes localized at the vortex. We show that the optomagnonic coupling has a rich spatial structure and that it can be tuned by an externally applied magnetic field. Our results predict cooperativities at maximum photon density of the order of C ≈ 10?2 by proper engineering of these structures.

  • Metal Substrate-Induced Line Width Compression in the Magnetic Dipole Resonance of a Silicon Nanosphere Illuminated by a Focused Azimuthally Polarized Beam

    摘要: We investigate the modification of the magnetic dipole resonance of a silicon nanosphere, which is illuminated by a focused azimuthally polarized beam, induced by a metal substrate. It is found that the magnetic dipole of the silicon nanosphere excited by the focused azimuthally polarized beam and its image dipole induced by the metal substrate are out of phase. The interference of these two anti-parallel dipoles leads to a dramatic line width compression in the magnetic dipole resonance, manifested directly in the scattering spectrum of the silicon nanosphere. The quality factor of the modified magnetic dipole resonance is enhanced by a factor of ~ 2.5 from ~ 14.62 to ~ 37.25 as compared with that of the silicon nanosphere in free space. Our findings are helpful for understanding the mode hybridization in the silicon nanosphere placed on a metal substrate and illuminated by a focused azimuthally polarized beam and useful for designing photonic functional devices such as nanoscale sensors and color displayers.

  • Investigating the Impacts of Lateraland Angular Misalignments betweenCircular Filaments

    摘要: This paper analyses the impacts of lateral and angular misalignments on the mutual inductance and the magnetic force between circular ?laments which are arbitrarily positioned in space. Advanced and relevant models available in the literature are used to accomplish the aim of this paper. Using SCILAB application software, the results obtained based on the theoretical model show that as the coil misalignments increase the values of the mutual inductance and the magnetic force keep decreasing and increasing with respect to certain variable rotation angle at any point of the secondary coil. In order to further investigate the impact of coil separation distance and misalignments on the amount of voltage induced in the secondary coil, a model of air-cored transformer is constructed. The experimental results obtained show that the amount of the induced magnetic ?ux from the primary coil into the secondary coil becomes weaker if the coil separation distance and coil misalignments increase. As a result, a much smaller value of the mutual inductance is obtained resulting to a much smaller induced electromotive force in the secondary coil.

  • Image Reconstruction Using Analysis Model Prior

    摘要: The analysis model has been previously exploited as an alternative to the classical sparse synthesis model for designing image reconstruction methods. Applying a suitable analysis operator on the image of interest yields a cosparse outcome which enables us to reconstruct the image from undersampled data. In this work, we introduce additional prior in the analysis context and theoretically study the uniqueness issues in terms of analysis operators in general position and the specific 2D finite difference operator. We establish bounds on the minimum measurement numbers which are lower than those in cases without using analysis model prior. Based on the idea of iterative cosupport detection (ICD), we develop a novel image reconstruction model and an effective algorithm, achieving significantly better reconstruction performance. Simulation results on synthetic and practical magnetic resonance (MR) images are also shown to illustrate our theoretical claims.

  • Customized MFM probes with high lateral resolution

    摘要: Magnetic force microscopy (MFM) is a widely used technique for magnetic imaging. Besides its advantages such as the high spatial resolution and the easy use in the characterization of relevant applied materials, the main handicaps of the technique are the lack of control over the tip stray field and poor lateral resolution when working under standard conditions. In this work, we present a convenient route to prepare high-performance MFM probes with sub-10 nm (sub-25 nm) topographic (magnetic) lateral resolution by following an easy and quick low-cost approach. This allows one to not only customize the tip stray field, avoiding tip-induced changes in the sample magnetization, but also to optimize MFM imaging in vacuum (or liquid media) by choosing tips mounted on hard (or soft) cantilevers, a technology that is currently not available on the market.

  • A novel use of etched multi-mode fibre as magnetic field sensor

    摘要: In this study, an optical fibre magnetic field sensor is experimentally demonstrated using chemical etched multimode fibre sandwiched between two single mode fibres. The obtained result of the magnetic field and refractive index response shows that the decreasing fibre diameter in the sensing region plays an important role to enhance the sensitivity of the device. The magnetic field sensing is based on a tunable refractive index (RI) property of magnetic fluid infiltrated into the capillary tube. The sensing system is verified by testing RI of different concentrations of sodium chloride (NaCl) solution before sealing in capillary tube. Experimental results show that the sensor with taper fibre diameter of 45?μm has relatively high magnetic field sensitivity of ~ 0.993?dB/mT ranging from 0 to 6?mT. The proposed devices find potential applications in magnetic field sensing.
