摘要: Ray tracing simulation results indicate that a high-resolution database is not needed to exploit user position knowledge in the 28-GHz band, even in the case of inexact information. A proposed antenna alignment algorithm (using maximum position errors and database resolutions of 10 and 4 m, respectively) that takes advantage of the propagation characteristics knowledge of database points located around the reported location is applied. The results show that the distance between the points can be increased up to 2 m with no considerable negative impact on performance. Simulations also indicate that this outcome is sustained when the maximum power level received at the user equipment varies. The algorithm provides the benefit of a higher initial power delivery and fewer steps, as long as the exact geographical position of the user is within the circular area containing the considered database points. The performance is similar to or better than that of a modified classical hierarchical procedure.

摘要: The global bandwidth shortage facing wireless carriers has motivated the exploration of the underutilized millimeter wave (mm-wave) frequency spectrum for future broadband cellular communication networks. There is, however, little knowledge about cellular mm-wave propagation in densely populated indoor and outdoor environments. Obtaining this information is vital for the design and operation of future fifth generation cellular networks that use the mm-wave spectrum. In this paper, we present the motivation for new mm-wave cellular systems, methodology, and hardware for measurements and offer a variety of measurement results that show 28 and 38 GHz frequencies can be used when employing steerable directional antennas at base stations and mobile devices.

摘要: This paper presents a compact and low-profile bandpass filter (BPF) built of silica-based post-wall waveguide. The BPF adopts direct-coupled resonator filters based on cylindrical resonators. The filter is highly configurable in shape and allows flexible and compact design. A compact E-band hybrid-coupled diplexer is presented as an application. The dimensions of the BPF and diplexer are 4.0×4.0 mm2 and 9.4×9.9 mm2, respectively. The insertion loss of the lower passband of the diplexer is 1.52 dB at 72.9 GHz and that of the higher passband is 2.0 dB at 82.8 GHz

A 230-GHz High-Power and Wideband Coupled Standing Wave VCO in 65-nm CMOS
摘要: This article presents a 230-GHz wideband harmonic voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with large output power based on a compact and low-loss structure of coupled standing wave oscillators. In order to boost the output power, oscillators are coupled together without adding extra passive loss to the circuit. Transistors with inductive drain impedances provide the necessary negative resistance to the oscillators while simultaneously acting as active variable capacitors for frequency tuning and generate the desired second-harmonic power through their nonlinearities. Transmission lines at the drains are responsible for creating the inductive impedance as well as coupling adjacent oscillators and routing and combining the output power. Therefore, the circuit has a compact structure that minimizes passive losses. A varactor-less frequency tuning scheme is used and allows for wideband operation without sacrificing the output power. In addition to oscillator coupling and minimizing the losses, the output power has been boosted by engineering the harmonic impedance that is seen by the transistors in the circuit. The prototype chip was implemented in a 65-nm CMOS process. The output power of the VCO covers 219–238 GHz frequency band (8.35% tuning range) and delivers 3.4-dBm maximum output power. The minimum measured phase noise is ?105.8 dBc/Hz (at 10-MHz offset) while consuming 195 mW from a 1.5-V supply.

摘要: Temperature dependence is shown of fifth-order Chebyshev bandpass filters (BPFs) built of silica-based post-wall waveguide for millimeter-wave applications. The measured frequency drift of the three BPFs with the center frequencies of 59 GHz, 73 GHz and 84 GHz were 10.12 ppm/?C, 9.56 ppm/?C and 11.91 ppm/?C over the temperature range of 30?C to 90?C, respectively. It is confirmed that the stability of the silica-based BPFs is superior to commercial-waveguide BPFs.

摘要: In this paper, a modified and substrate integrate wave guide-fed linear array patch antenna is designed for 28-GHz millimeter-wave applications. In the first step, patches are placed in 2 x 2 array structure and the patches are excited by slots to each element. In the subsequent design, number of port has been reduced from N2 to N. By using this arrangement only two ports are used for 2 x 2 array antennas. Using this method of feeding, fabrication cost and circuit complexity are reduced. The Substrate integrated wave guide (SIW) feeding technique provides, minimal amount of side-lobe power level and side lobe suppression. The proposed system has reflection co-efficient of 22.5dB over the band and average gain values of 9.2dBi were obtained. This method also has good VSWR in entire operating band (center frequency of 28GHz). Moreover, it is easy to integrate with RF circuits and also it finds the application in future 5G mobile communications.

摘要: Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) is a low loss transmission line which can be used to connect an antenna to a backed RF circuit in the millimeter wave band. A multi-layer substrate is effective to integrate RF circuits and antennas. Therefore, a transition between a hollow waveguide and a SIW in multi-layer substrate is necessary. However, reflection loss generates at the connections between the hollow waveguide and the SIW in each layer. In this study, a back short and window structures are proposed to use for matching circuit in the transition. Transitions from hollow waveguide to SIWs in multi-layer substrate were designed for low loss over wide bandwidth.

摘要: This paper presents a resonant liquid crystal (LC) characterization at 60 GHz using a temperature controlled automated measurement setup. For the measurements the resonator is perturbed with LC inside a thin silica quartz tube. The LC orientation is accomplished by means of permanent rare earth magnets. Measurements are performed at 20 ?C. The investigated LC is the GT3-23001 mixture from Merck KGaA. The extracted values are compared with characterization results at 19 GHz. The extracted permittivities are ranging from 3.14 to 2.43 and the loss tangents from 0.0035 to 0.0191 for parallel and orthogonal orientation, respectively.

摘要: A 2 × 3 substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) H-plane hybrid coupler operating at 28 GHz with constant phase shifting outputs is proposed. This proposed 6-port hybrid junction coupler can equally divide the input power into the three output ports, with a constant relative phase difference +120?, 0?, ?120?. Simulation results indicate that within 5% relative bandwidth, our designs achieve a good impedance matching with high isolation, and equal power division having constant phase shifting.
