摘要: Wideband millimeter-wave (mmWave) directional propagation measurements were conducted in the 32 GHz and 39 GHz bands in outdoor line-of-sight (LoS) small cell scenarios. The measurement provides spatial and temporal statistics that will be useful for small-cell outdoor wireless networks for future mmWave bands. Measurements were performed at two outdoor environments and repeated for all polarization combinations. Measurement results show little spread in the angular and delay domains for the LoS scenario. Moreover root-mean-squared (RMS) delay spread at different polarizations show small difference which can be due to specific scatterers in the channel.

摘要: Hybrid methods that combine electromagnetic and optical three dimensional (3D) imaging can be used to scan objects or bodies at millimeter-wave frequencies by merging multiview information. The first goal of the optical model is to obtain a 3D representation of the external surface of the target under test. The second goal lies in the estimation of positions and attitude angles of the electromagnetic scanner in order to properly combine the data collected at each acquisition view. In this contribution, two different positioning techniques are evaluated. The first one is based on a conventional optical camera, whereas the second one relies on a depth camera. Finally, an example of application to security screening is used to evaluate the accuracy of both methods.

摘要: A multiple-band 5G end-fire antenna array is proposed to be placed on the upper and bottom edges of mobile terminals. The antenna element consists of two bow-tie radiators designed to resonate at 28 and 60 GHz. A sixteen-element beam-steerable array is presented in this paper, with overall dimensions of 40.13×1.44×0.25 mm3. Only the odd elements are active in the 28-GHz band and the optimal termination of the parasitic elements is studied. The simulated results show a good match to a 50-ohm feeding line and end-fire radiation at the targeted frequency bands.

摘要: A wideband 45° polarized element with simple structure has been proposed. With the aid of a corporate feeding network and substrate integrated waveguide, a 4 × 4 array antenna has been designed and fabricated using printed-circuit-board technology. Experiments show that the array covers over 24.4% bandwidth with gains around 20.0 dBi, which validates that it can be used for future 5G applications.

摘要: We investigate the feasibility of roll-to-roll reverse offset (R2R-RO) printing technology for the mass fabrication of millimeter-wave antennas on ?exible substrates. In this study, samples of coplanar waveguide (CPW) transmission lines and microstrip patch antennas were manufactured and measured. The results indicate that the R2R-RO printing technique can be an excellent candidate for the production of millimeter-wave and terahertz devices, since it has the advantage of low cost and high resolution.

摘要: This paper presents a planar rhombus monopole antenna covering 24.408–34.533 GHz spectrum for fifth generation (5G) wireless mobile communications. The antenna structure is composed of rectangular rings and parasitic patches. The proposed antenna is built on 0.254 mm thin Rogers substrate and has dimensions of 7×7 mm2. It maintains an efficiency of more than 96% throughout its operational band with a peak gain of 5.6 dBi. The antenna is broadband having 36.16% bandwidth at 28 GHz. Linear and planar array configurations lead to very high gains of up to 14.2 dBi, beam-width as narrow as 8.4o and very low side lobe level of -13.1 dB. The proposed antenna is an excellent choice for millimeter-wave and future (5G) mobile phone communications due to its simple design, easy fabrication and low cost.

摘要: We report a distributed loaded line phase shifter based on a new class of electro-thermally actuated RF MEMS devices using paraf?n phase-change material (PCM). Paraf?n is a low loss (tan δ = 6.6×10?4) mechanical phase-change material that exhibits a 15% volumetric change through its solid-liquid transition. Due to its unique electrical and mechanical properties, paraf?n PCM variable capacitors exhibit a very low loss which is critical in designing recon?gurable structures. Here, a low-loss paraf?n PCM based true-time delay, continuously-tunable phase shifter is designed and optimized. A ?gure-of merit of 71.8?/dB is achieved while maintaining a return loss more than 12 dB. Designed phase shifter has a maximum insertion loss of 5 dB for a 360? phase shift. Electro-thermo-mechanical performance of the paraf?n PCM device is studied by carrying out a fully coupled multiphysics simulation. Maximum displacement of 0.8 μm is achieved with a 2.6 μm-thick paraf?n ?lm. A new fabrication method for the deposition of the thin paraf?n ?lm is developed and a fabrication process for the device is presented.

摘要: Automotive radars are one of the key sensor technologies to develop reliable fully-automated cars. They are usually installed behind the bumper of the vehicle and therefore, multiple reflections can occur. The multiple reflections can be mitigated with the use of low-RCS (radar cross-section) antenna arrays. This paper presents the design of a complex low-RCS multiple antenna system that mimics a typical MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) configuration. A prototype has been developed and tested. Approximately 17 dB of RCS reduction has been experimentally achieved. The measurement results show that the use of such a low-RCS antenna system can successfully reduce the amplitude of multiple reflections.

摘要: A new class of millimeter wave (mmW) imaging sensor using a phase-change material (PCM) microbolometer is designed and presented. In this approach, non-linear and large change in electrical resistivity of antenna-coupled vanadium dioxide (VO2) bolometer are exploited to achieve high responsivity, fast response time, and low noise equivalent power (NEP). The sensor is biased near the phase transition cliff temperature of 68 ?C. Micro-electro-mechanical Systems (MEMS) microfabrication process is utilized to suspend the sensor in air to improve the thermal resistance and therefore overall performance of the sensor. Preliminary simulation studies, demonstrate results, approximately 30 times improvement in responsivity (9.4×103 V/W) and 60% reduction in NEP (5.5 pW/√Hz) as compared to the state-of-the-art sensor. The corresponding rise time and fall time of the device are 6 μs and 35 μs, respectively. In the near future, a pixilated array of the proposed sensor enables the realization of highly sensitive mmW camera for variety of sensing applications.
