  • Controllable Motion-Blur Effects in Still Images

    摘要: Motion blur in a photo is the consequence of object motion during the image acquisition. It results in a visible trail along the motion of a recorded object and can be used by photographers to convey a sense of motion. Nevertheless, it is very challenging to acquire this effect as intended and requires much experience from the photographer. To achieve actual control over the motion blur, one could be added in a post process but current solutions require complex manual intervention and can lead to artifacts that mix moving and static objects incorrectly. In this paper, we propose a novel method to add motion blur to a single image that generates the illusion of a photographed motion. Relying on a minimal user input, a filtering process is employed to produce a virtual motion effect. It carefully handles object boundaries to avoid artifacts produced by standard filtering methods. We illustrate the effectiveness of our solution with various complex examples, including multi-directional blur, reflections, multiple objects, and illustrate how several motion-related artistic effects can be achieved. Our post-processing solution is an alternative to capturing the intended real-world motion blur directly and enables fine-grained control of the motion-blur effect.

  • Robust artifact-free high dynamic range imaging of dynamic scenes

    摘要: The irradiance range of the real-world scene is often beyond the capability of digital cameras. Therefore, High Dynamic Range (HDR) images can be generated by fusing images with different exposure of the same scene. However, moving objects pose the most severe problem in the HDR imaging, leading to the annoying ghost artifacts in the fused image. In this paper, we present a novel HDR technique to address the moving objects problem. Since the input low dynamic range (LDR) images captured by a camera act as static linear related backgrounds with moving objects during each individual exposures, we formulate the detection of foreground moving objects as a rank minimization problem. Meanwhile, in order to eliminate the image blurring caused by background slightly change of LDR images, we further rectify the background by employing the irradiances alignment. Experiments on image sequences show that the proposed algorithm performs significant gains in synthesized HDR image quality compare to state-of-the-art methods.

  • A Fuzzy Inference System for Unsupervised Deblurring of Motion Blur in Electron Beam Calibration

    摘要: This paper presents a novel method of restoring the electron beam (EB) measurements that are degraded by linear motion blur. This is based on a fuzzy inference system (FIS) and Wiener inverse filter, together providing autonomy, reliability, flexibility, and real-time execution. This system is capable of restoring highly degraded signals without requiring the exact knowledge of EB probe size. The FIS is formed of three inputs, eight fuzzy rules, and one output. The FIS is responsible for monitoring the restoration results, grading their validity, and choosing the one that yields to a better grade. These grades are produced autonomously by analyzing results of a Wiener inverse filter. To benchmark the performance of the system, ground truth signals obtained using an 18 μm wire probe were compared with the restorations. Main aims are therefore: (a) Provide unsupervised deblurring for device independent EB measurement; (b) improve the reliability of the process; and (c) apply deblurring without knowing the probe size. These further facilitate the deployment and manufacturing of EB probes as well as facilitate accurate and probe-independent EB characterization. This paper’s findings also makes restoration of previously collected EB measurements easier where the probe sizes are not known nor recorded.

  • Remote Sensing Image Restoration Based on an improved Landweber Iterative Method for Forest Monitoring and Management

    摘要: As an advanced space exploration technologies, remote sensing technology has been widely used in forest monitoring and management. Forest current conditions could be reflected in real-time remote sensing images, but due to various imaging system and its environmental constraints, the original remote sensing images is often blurred. In this paper, two common remote-sensing imaging blurs, named motion blur and atmospheric turbulence blur, were studied and discussed the mechanism of the image blurred, and proposed a remote sensing image restoration method based on an improved Landweber iteration method which expedites the convergence only in the signal domain. As a result, we can still improve the image restoration accuracy of results at the same time of speeding up convergences.

  • Image deconvolution using homomorphic technique

    摘要: Blind image deconvolution is a challenging issue in image processing. A solution to this problem is increasingly required in many applications. In this study, we develop a novel computational approach for solving the blind deconvolution problem by integrating the utilities of homomorphic domain and outlier handling methods in blurred images. Most of the existing methods for blind image deconvolution employ complex algorithms, and thus can incur excessive overhead in computing the blur kernel. In contrast, our work decomposes the blurred image into two main components using the homomorphic step. It is known that the homomorphic domain can be imposed on images by the logarithm operation that separates the image into the illumination and re?ectance parts. The re?ectance part contains the most prominent details of the image, while the illumination part contains mostly redundant information of the image. By using the re?ectance part in the proposed blind deconvolution approach, we were able to achieve signi?cant improvement in performance. The proposed approach outperforms the state-of-the-art methods. It is, therefore, an effective approach for blind image deconvolution with low complexity.
