  • A 12.8-Gb/s Daisy Chain-Based Downlink I/F Employing Spectrally Compressed Multi-Band Multiplexing for High-Bandwidth, Large-Capacity Storage Systems

    摘要: Toward the aim of realizing high-bandwidth, large-capacity nand flash memory-based storage systems, this paper presents a novel daisy-chain downlink interface (I/F) between a controller and a large number of nand packages. The daisy-chain I/F employs a tapered-bandwidth architecture with bridge-by-bridge data extraction based on a proposed spectrally compressed multi-band multiplexing (SCM2) technique to achieve low power consumption. By using the proposed downlink I/F, a nand controller can handle 32 low-cost nand packages while achieving 12.8-Gb/s throughput using two data wires. The fabricated prototype downlink I/F achieved a bit error rate (BER) of 10^-12 with power consumption of 252.1 mW for the transmitter and 375.7 mW for all four receivers together.

  • Polarization dependent five-band terahertz metamaterial using two resonators

    摘要: In this paper, we present a multi-band terahertz metamaterial composed of two hexagonal shaped metallic resonators supported by a Teflon dielectric substrate. The performance characteristics of the proposed structure are evaluated numerically using CST Microwave Studio software. The design has polarization sensitive and angle independent operational nature. The designed structure resonates at five frequencies: 0.19 THz, 0.3 THz, 0.47 THz, 0.5 THz, and 0.61 THz in transverse electric mode. The underlying concept of multi-band resonances has been understood by obtaining the electric field.

    摘要: In this paper, two PIFA multi-band antennas are presented. They are placed at two opposite sides of FR4 PCB. First antenna operates at the frequencies of 0.868 MHz, 1.57 GHz and 2.4 GHz, meanwhile another has the resonant frequencies of 1.57 GHz and 2.4 GHz. The obtained bandwidths cover BLE, GPS and LoRa that are the low power wireless communication standard. Thanks to these specifications, the proposed antenna can be used for the small tracking devices. With the dimension of 0.04λ x 0.07λ (λ is the wavelength at frequency of 0.868 MHz), the antennas provide the radiation efficiency higher than -5 dB for using in LoRa, GPS and BLE. The proposed antennas are simulated and optimized by using HFSS software.

    摘要: This paper proposes novel design method of dual-band reflectarray using genetic algorithm (GA). Ordinary, each elements of reflectarray are designed to have desired reflection phase. However, when we adopt same polarization in dual frequencies, the element configuration designed to satisfy desired reflection phase in one frequency influences the characteristics in other frequency. Therefore, it is difficult to achieve dual-band reflectarray. To address the issues, we adopt two layer patches for element to increase flexibility of design and optimize the patches configuration using GA. As a result, we achieve novel reflectarray that reflect wave towards the direction of theta equal to 27 deg. and phi equal to 0 deg. in dual frequency simultaneously when incidence wave is coming from the direction of theta equal to 0 deg. and phi equal to 0 deg. in dual frequency.

  • Equal and unequal quad-band Gysel power dividers

    摘要: This article presents for the first time a quad-band Gysel power divider capable of achieving equal and unequal power division at four arbitrary frequencies. The structure of the proposed divider is similar to its single-band counterpart but loaded with quad-band reactive networks. The design procedure and theoretical analysis of the proposed divider are presented. A quad-band Gysel power divider with equal division and another with 2:1 unequal division are designed at the operational frequencies of 0.85, 1.6, 2.4, and 3 GHz. Simulation and measurement results of the two dividers are presented, and good performance is observed at each band. For both designs, the realized power division ratios are within 1 dB from their ideal values, whereas the matching and isolation levels are below ?10 dB at the four bands.

  • STEPPED SLOT PATCH ANTENNA WITH COPPER GROUND PLANE AND SOLAR CELL GROUND PLANE FOR FUTURE MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS

    摘要: A new structure design of a multi-band suspended stepped slot microstrip patch antenna with copper ground plane for future mobile communications is proposed and presented. A parametric study for the e?ect on the proposed antenna is done on a par with the integration of a polycrystalline silicon solar cell. The compact low pro?le proposed antenna is developed using Printed Circuit Board (PCB) technology on a substrate, FR4 with physical size of 50 × 50 mm2. Simulated and measured results are presented to validate the usefulness of the proposed antenna structure for Wi-Max and future mobile communications. The measured result reveals that the presented stepped slot patch antenna with copper ground plane o?ers impedance bandwidth of 3.94% (covering 5.46 GHz–5.68 GHz band), 3.06% (covering 7.08 GHz–7.3 GHz band), and 9.26% (covering 8.34 GHz–9.15 GHz band). The same radiating patch with solar ground plane o?ers impedance bandwidth of 4.58% (covering 5.12 GHz–5.36 GHz band) and 3.06% (covering 7.32 GHz–8.02 GHz band) for future mobile communications. Good VSWR and radiation pattern characteristics are obtained in the frequency band of interest.

  • Management of losses (thermalization-transmission) in the Si-QDs inside 3Ca??SiC to design an ultra-high-efficiency solar cell

    摘要: Thermalization loss is one of the major losses in the single junction solar cells. Here, 3C–SiC as a wide bandgap semiconductor is used to manage this loss. To prevent the transmission of low energy photons, the intermediate bands inside the forbidden band gap is used. To do this, silicon quantum dots inside silicon carbide is suggested. At first, the detailed balance calculations are carried out to determine the efficiency limits of a cell with one and two mini-bands. Optical simulation using 3D FEM solution of the Schrodinger equation is done to obtain mini-bands, wave functions, and hence the optical absorption coefficient. Dimension parameters of a QD array like radius, inter-dot spacing, and array size are optimized to obtain a maximum efficiency. Inter-band and inter-sub-band absorption coefficient are calculated. That applied to determine the optimum characteristic of a QD–based intermediate band solar cell. The photocurrent increases as the inter-dot spaces decrease. Suitable radiuses and inter-dot spaces are found to obtain a high absorption coefficient and hence higher photocurrent. Finally, the effect of non-radiative recombination on the device performances is simulated. These results provide significant information to design a three-dimensional QDs based intermediate band solar cells.

    摘要: Multi-band operation for terahertz wireless systems is a challenging problem. We propose a tri-band linear to circular polarization converter in the terahertz regime using metasurfaces in transmission modes. The converter is composed of bi-layered metasurfaces separated by a dielectric spacer. Three bands (0.54-0.804, 1.904-2.476, and 2.96-3.884 THz) of linear to circular polarization conversion (LCPC) are achieved due to the superposition of the two transmitted components with a near 90° phase difference. Idea is verified by HFSS and paves a way to the design of multi-band transmissive linear to circular polarization converter.

  • Near-infrared multi-narrowband absorber based on plasmonic nanopillar metamaterial

    摘要: A multi-narrowband absorber composed of gold nanopillar metamaterial is numerically designed and investigated in this paper. Full-wave simulations indicate that five distinctive narrow-band absorption peaks with the maximum absorption rate up to 99.3% and the lowest above 80% can be achieved in the near-infrared regime at normal incidence. Polarization dependence over a incident angular range of ± 30° is also researched. We demonstrate the spectroscopic tunability of our absorber by adjusting the structural parameters of the gold nanopillar array. Physical mechanism of the multi-narrowband absorption is construed as the vertical Fabry-Perot-like gap plasmonic resonances induced by electric and magnetic dipolar polaritons. Compared to the previous researches on multi-band absorbers, we realize no less than five near-infrared narrow absorption bands by utilizing just simple configuration with single pattern, which makes considerable application potential in the fields of absorption filtering and spectroscopic sensing.

  • High quantum yields generated by a multi-band quantum dot photocell

    摘要: We perform the quantum yields in a multi-band quantum dot (QD) photocell via doping an intermediate band (IB) between the conduction band (CB) and valence band (VB). Under two different sub-band gap layouts, the output power has a prominent enhancement than the single-band gap photocell and the achieved peak photo-to-charge efficiency reaches to 74.9% as compared to the limit efficiency of 63.2% via the IB approach in the theoretical solar cell prototype. The achieved quantum yields reveal the potential to improve efficiency by some effective theoretical approaches in the QD-IB photocell.
