  • Vibration Monitoring Based on Flexible Multi-walled Carbon Nanotube / Polydimethylsiloxane Film Sensor and the Application on Motion Signal Acquisition

    摘要: Flexible sensors at small scales have potential applications in many fields. Until now, the research on high-performance vibration sensors based on soft materials with high sensitivity and precision, fast response, high stability are still in its infancy. In this work, a flexible, wearable and high precision film sensor based on multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) was prepared via a vacuum filtration process and then encapsulated within polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). The sensor exhibits an ultrahigh sensitivity with gauge factor of 214.3 at flexural strain of 0.4 %. When used to monitor the vibration responses of a carbon-fiber beam induced by the base excitation and impact hammer, the time and frequency responses were comparable with the results obtained by the accelerometer, with difference less than 1 %. In addition, when the MWCNT/PDMS thin film was employed as an electronic skin sensor attached on the human body to detect human activities, the high sensitivity and repeatability demonstrate a great potential application in monitoring human motion.

  • Immobilization of C/Ce-codoped ZnO nanoparticles on multi-walled carbon nanotubes for enhancing their photocatalytic activity

    摘要: C/Ce-codoped ZnO nanoparticles immobilized onto multi-walled carbon nanotubes (C/Ce-ZnO@MWCNT) were successfully fabricated via the hydrothermal method for degradation of methylene blue (MB) under visible light irradiation. The prepared C/Ce-ZnO@MWCNT samples were characterized by XRD, XPS, FTIR, FE-SEM, EDX, BET, and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The obtained results indicated that the photocatalytic activity of all the MWCNTs-containing samples was higher than those of the bare ZnO and C/Ce-codoped ZnO nanoparticles. Besides, the C/Ce-ZnO@MWCNT composite with 50 wt% MWCNT showed the highest photocatalytic activity with the MB removal efficiency of 96.5% recorded within 90 min under visible light illumination using 1.0 g/L catalyst dosage at pH of 9 and MB concentration of 30 ppm. The degradation mechanism controlled by the charge transfer process in C/Ce-ZnO@MWCNT composite was proposed and discussed in detail. In addition, the long-term-use ability of the photocatalyst was also evaluated through experiments conducted in continuous cycles.

  • Influences of nickel plated multi-walled carbon-nanotube on the electro-optical properties of nematic liquid crystal

    摘要: Some enhanced performances can be obtained by doping multi-walled carbon-nanotube (MWCNT) into self-organized nematic liquid crystal (NLC). However, the dispersion of MWCNT in NLC is very few, thus the enhancement is restricted. In this work, a nickel plated MWCNT (MWCNT@Ni) is synthesized to obtain a relatively high dispersion. The morphology, element and chemical bond differences between MWCNT and MWCNT@Ni are characterized. For MWCNT@Ni, there is a layer of coaxial nickel coated on the surface of MWCNT, which weakens the interaction energy between the adjacent MWCNTs and further results in a relatively high dispersion. Moreover, MWCNT@Ni has a more orderly arrangement in NLC compared with MWCNT. The results suggest that the dielectric anisotropy of MWCNT@Ni/NLC with mass fraction of 0.01 wt% is increased by ~3.6%, and the saturation voltage is reduced by ~7.3%. Besides, the rise time is decreased by ~9.5% at 5 V and 1 kHz. These performances have been improved compared with MWCNT/NLC under the same mass fraction. The effect of mass fraction of MWCNT@Ni on rise time is further investigated. As a result, the rise time is decreased by ~16.7% as MWCNT@Ni with mass fraction of 0.10 wt% is added into NLC. In general, the method to increase dispersion of dopant in NLC is proposed, which can serve as a reference to improve the performances of NLC composites.

  • Optically Modulated Tunable O-Band Praseodymium-Doped Fluoride Fiber Laser Utilizing Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotube Saturable Absorber <sup>*</sup>

    摘要: A tunable and optically modulated fiber laser utilizing a multi-walled carbon nanotube based saturable absorber is demonstrated for operation in the O-band region. A praseodymium-doped fluoride fiber is used as the gain medium and the system is capable of generating modulated outputs at 1300 nm. Pulsed output is observed at pump powers of 511 mW and above, with repetition rates and pulse widths that can be tuned from 41 kHz and 3.4 ??s to 48 kHz and 2.4 ??s, respectively, at the maximum pump power available. A maximum average output power of 100 ??W with a corresponding single pulse energy of 2.1 nJ is measured, while the tunability of the proposed laser is from 1290 nm to 1308 nm. The output is stable, with peak power fluctuations of ~4 dB from the average value.

  • The synthesis of Co <sub/>x</sub> Ni <sub/>1?x</sub> Fe <sub/>2</sub> O <sub/>4</sub> /multi-walled carbon nanotube nanocomposites and their photocatalytic performance

    摘要: A series of CoxNi1?xFe2O4/multi-walled carbon nanotube (CoxNi1?xFe2O4/MWCNTs) nanocomposites as photocatalysts were successfully synthesized, where CoxNi1?xFe2O4 was synthesized via a one-step hydrothermal approach. Simultaneously, methylene blue (MB) was used as the research object to investigate the catalytic effect of the catalyst in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The results showed that all the photocatalysts exhibited enhanced catalytic activity compared to pure ferrite. In addition, compared with the other photocatalysts, the reaction time was greatly shortened a significantly higher removal rate was achieved using 3-CNF/MWCNTs. There was no significant decrease in photodegradation efficiency after three catalytic cycles, suggesting that CoxNi1?xFe2O4/MWCNTs are recyclable photocatalysts for wastewater treatment. Our results indicate that the CoxNi1?xFe2O4/MWCNT composite can be effectively applied for the removal of organic pollutants as a novel photocatalyst.

  • Electromagnetic interference shielding properties of graphene/MWCNT hybrid buckypaper

    摘要: A type of lightweight and flexible graphene/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) hybrid buckypaper (BP) is fabricated, which show superior shielding effectiveness (SE) of electromagnetic interference and without polymer. The EMI SE of graphene/MWCNT hybrid BP with thickness of 130 μm is up to ~51 dB at 8 GHz, which is much higher than that of pure MWCNT BP with same thickness (~32.5 dB) and the best electrical conductivity is up to 10,000 S/m. More important, the improvement in EMI SE is contributed to the SE absorption, while the SE reflection is almost unchanged. This paper-like material is smooth, tough, and flexible enough to be attached on the complex curved surface structure. A facile way to fully develop graphene and MWCNT in lightweight and flexible EMI shielding materials and devices is provided here.
