  • Nondestructive nanofabrication on monocrystalline silicon via site-controlled formation and removal of oxide mask

    摘要: A nondestructively patterned silicon substrate serves as an ideal support for forming high-quality optical structures or devices. A new approach was proposed for fabricating site-controlled structures without destruction on a monocrystalline silicon surface via local anodic oxidation (LAO) and two-step postetching. The nondestruction was demonstrated by conductivity detection with conductive atomic force microscopy (AFM), and an almost perfect crystal lattice was observed from the fabricated hillock by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). By programming AFM tip traces for LAO processing, site-controlled nondestructive patterns with di?erent layouts can be produced. This approach provides a new route for realizing nondestructive optical substrates.

  • A deep learning based feature extraction method on hyperspectral images for nondestructive prediction of TVB-N content in Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei)

    摘要: Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) technique with spectral range of 900e1700 nm was implemented to predict total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) content in Pacific white shrimp. Successive projections algorithm (SPA) and deep-learning-based stacked auto-encoders (SAEs) algorithm were comparatively used for spectral feature extraction. Least-squares support vector machine (LS-SVM), partial least squares regression (PLSR) and multiple linear regression (MLR) were used for prediction. The results demonstrated that the SAEs-based prediction models (SAEs-LS-SVM, SAEs-MLR and SAEs-PLSR) performed better than either full wavelengths-based or SPA-based prediction models. The SAEs-LS-SVM was considered to be the best model with RP2 value of 0.921, RMSEP value of 6.22 mg N [100 g]?1, RPD value of 3.58 and computational time of 3.9 ms for predicting TVB-N in prediction set. The results of this study indicated that SAEs has a high potential in the multivariate analysis of hyperspectral images for shrimp quality inspections.

  • Magneto-optical imaging characteristics of weld defects under alternating and rotating magnetic field excitation

    摘要: This paper mainly examines the characteristics of magneto-optical (MO) images of weld defects under alternating and rotating magnetic field excitation. Weld defects including surface and subsurface defects were subjected to magneto-optical imaging (MOI) nondestructive testing (NDT) experiments. The MO images of different weld defects under alternating magnetic field excitation and rotating magnetic field excitation have been compared to determine the best effect of nondestructive testing, and a cruciform welding seam was used to verify the detection effect of rotating magnetic field. Besides, the values of standard deviation and maximum difference have been determined to analyze the difference in the effects of two magnetic fields, and image processing methods were applied to extract defect information, such as histogram equalization. Experimental results show that the optimal excitation voltage and lift-off value of rotating magnetic field are 120 V and 20 mm, respectively; image histogram equalization can significantly improve the contrast of MO images, and there is a distinct difference in the detection effect of two magnetic fields. Under the same excitation conditions, the detection effect of rotating magnetic fields is always better than the effect of alternating magnetic fields, and rotating magnetic field excitation has obvious advantages in detecting multidirection and subsurface defects in that the detection depth can reach about 8 mm.

  • Facile synthesis of thermal responsive fluorescent poly(imino ether sulfone): Nondestructive detection of Tg and erasable thermal imaging

    摘要: A novel heat-resistant fluorescent polymer poly(imino ether sulfone) (PIES) as thermally erasable and writable imaging material has been synthesized via a facile nucleophilic substitution polycondensation reaction. Taking advantage of the tenability of the 'push-pull' π-electron mode by changing temperatures, the Tg of PIES film can be 'naked eye' nondestructively detected by taking advantage of the visual fluorescence quenching.

  • Portable, visual, and nondestructive detector integrating Vis/NIR spectrometer for sugar content of kiwifruits

    摘要: A portable sugar content detector for intact kiwifruits was developed using a visible/near-infrared spectrometer over the wavelength of 350–1,100 nm as spectra collector, a tablet computer as controller, a micro-halogen lamp as light source, and a self-made “Y” shape optical fiber as light transmitter and light receiver. The software applied to collect spectra, to establish sugar content prediction model, and to predict sugar content of kiwifruits was developed by Java language. Partial least square regression model was established to determine sugar content of kiwifruits. Contrasted with the sugar content obtained by digital refractometer, the root-mean-square error of the developed detector was 0.93% in soluble solids content. The obtained sugar content using the developed detector could be given in 2.5 s. The study shows that the developed portable sugar content detector is a promising tool for on-site or in field nondestructive measurement on sugar content of kiwifruits.

  • Sparse Reconstruction-Based Thermal Imaging for Defect Detection

    摘要: This paper proposes an idea of employing sparse reconstruction-based technique for thermal imaging defect detection. The implementation of the reconstruction technique is tested on a carbon fiber reinforced polymer test piece with artificially drilled defects and the test results are compared with the established cross correlation method. The two processes are compared in terms of defect detectability, their SNR variation with defect depth and their computation complexity. When compared with cross correlation algorithm, the technique is expected to solve memory space problems by compressing all information from large cross-correlated pulse video into a single reconstructed image as an output. Furthermore, in existing cross correlation methods, the pulse peak time shifts with defect depth. Hence, defect quantification algorithms, such as SNR calculation, require multiple frame analysis. Such algorithms are comparatively simplified in sparse reconstruction technique. This paper explores sparse reconstruction algorithm for resolving close-spaced defects. This paper further describes cross-validation method for optimization of a user parameter in sparse reconstruction method.

  • Nondestructive egg freshness assessment from the equatorial and blunt region based on visible near infrared spectroscopy

    摘要: This research was to study which orientation was better for freshness prediction of the white-shelled eggs using visible near infrared spectroscopy. The transmission spectra were acquired in the equatorial region and at the blunt end of the eggs. After each spectral measurement, the Haugh unit, yolk index, and albumen pH as the freshness parameters were simultaneously measured using traditional destructive methods. Pretreatment methods containing Savitzky-Golay smoothing, multiplicative scatter correction, the standard normal variate, the first derivative and the second derivative were used. A partial least squares regression was developed to predict the Haugh unit, yolk index, and albumen pH. The best correlation coefficients of prediction were obtained from the equatorial region, and were 0.881, 0.855, and 0.888 for the Haugh unit, yolk index and albumen pH, respectively. And root mean square errors in the prediction set were 7.720, 0.034, and 0.147 for the Haugh unit, yolk index and albumen pH, respectively. The results illustrated that the equatorial region showed better ability than the blunt end to predict freshness of the white-shelled eggs.

  • Terahertz Differential Computed Tomography: a Relevant Nondestructive Inspection Application

    摘要: In recent years, tremendous advances have been made in the choice of materials used in the industry. With weight reduction as the goal, composite and polymer materials are more and more popular but they are almost transparent to X-ray. Because of this, interest has grown in other wavelengths like terahertz (THz). Due to a difference in how X-ray and THz propagate, X-ray CT algorithms cannot be directly used. For example, THz induces refraction making the reconstruction problem nonlinear. In this paper, we present a new algorithm which complies with beam profile intensities, refraction, and reflection. It is based on linearizing the reconstruction process around a computer-aided design (CAD) model of the object to be reconstructed. The method we propose computes the deviation between the object and this model.

  • The application of SLM in shearography detecting system

    摘要: The paper presents a new shearography system which applies a spatial light modulator (SLM). The system can control the shearing amount and direction as well as introduce the phase shift accurately and automatically, making shearographic testing easier and more practical. Shearography has the known advantages for nondestructive test and strain measurements of being fast, full-field, and having high sensitivity. Traditionally, the shearing amount is controlled by adjusting a reflector mechanically. Mechanical adjustment of the reflector is slow, inconvenient and not well suited for in-field NDT practice. For application of phase shift techniques, a piezoelectric transducer (PZT), which is usually used for application of phase shift techniques, introduces random error due to its tendency to be nonlinear. This paper introduces a new shearographic detection system with a spatial light modulator. The spatial light modulator controls the liquid crystal by using a birefringence effect and twisted nematic effect. The spatial light modulator can change the phase of the light and shearing amount accurately and automatically, thus eliminating the nonlinear random error in the phase shift method. Furthermore, this system also improves testing efficiency. In this paper, the fundamental of SLM shearography is presented. The capability of this optical configuration is demonstrated theoretically as well as through experiments.

  • Effectiveness of phased array focused ultrasound and active infrared thermography methods as a nondestructive testing of Ni-WC coating adhesion

    摘要: The substrate/coating adhesion is a crucial parameter conditioning the quality of coating and its durability in service. For this reason, an inspection of the coating integrity, in particular, the presence of adhesion defects will be of great importance. The adhesion inspection is usually ensured by destructive methods, such as traction, interfacial indentation, four-point bending, testing scratch, etc. However, it is currently hampered by the absence of a satisfactory non-destructive method. Among the non-destructive testing technologies widely used in the industrial field, there are X-ray diffraction, ultrasonic inspection, and infrared thermography. In this paper, two methods are investigated: ultrasonic inspection, which becoming more efficient, especially with the emergence of phased array systems that allow to investigate different inspection angles and focusing depths, and the active infrared thermography. Experiments were performed on metallic coatings deposited on a mild steel substrate. Coatings were containing artificial defects (flat bottom holes with different diameters) at the interface and others were exempts of defects. Longitudinal waves with specific delay laws were generated through a phased array contact transducer (5 MHz of central frequency). Experimental results show that the ultrasonic method allows detecting and sizing defects with a diameter of 1 mm located in thick coatings.
