  • Improving Visual Field Examination of the Macula Using Structural Information

    摘要: Purpose: To investigate a novel approach for structure-function modeling in glaucoma to improve visual field testing in the macula. Methods: We acquired data from the macular region in 20 healthy eyes and 31 with central glaucomatous damage. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans were used to estimate the local macular ganglion cell density. Perimetry was performed with a fundus-tracking device using a 10-2 grid. OCT scans were matched to the retinal image from the fundus perimeter to accurately map the tested locations onto the structural damage. Binary responses from the subjects to all presented stimuli were used to calculate the structure-function model used to generate prior distributions for a ZEST (Zippy Estimation by Sequential Testing) Bayesian strategy. We used simulations based on structural and functional data acquired from an independent dataset of 20 glaucoma patients to compare the performance of this new strategy, structural macular ZEST (MacS-ZEST), with a standard ZEST. Results: Compared to the standard ZEST, MacS-ZEST reduced the number of presentations by 13% in reliable simulated subjects and 14% with higher rates (≥20%) of false positive or false negative errors. Reduction in mean absolute error was not present for reliable subjects but was gradually more important with unreliable responses (≥10% at 30% error rate). Conclusions: Binary responses can be modeled to incorporate detailed structural information from macular OCT into visual field testing, improving overall speed and accuracy in poor responders. Translational Relevance: Structural information can improve speed and reliability for macular testing in glaucoma practice.

  • Zero contrast optical coherence tomography–guided percutaneous coronary intervention for in-stent restenosis of the saphenous vein graft using a non-contrast flush medium

    摘要: Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is often denied for individuals with coronary artery disease who are prone to develop contrast-induced acute kidney injury. We report a 73-year-old, stage 3 chronic kidney disease patient (CKD), who underwent coronary artery bypass surgery and saphenous vein graft (SVG) stenting in the past, presented with in-stent restenosis (ISR) of SVG stent. Zero contrast optical coherence tomography (OCT) guidedePCI was successfully performed using low molecular weight dextran-40 (LMWD-40) as the ?ush medium. Our report suggests the safety and feasibility of LMWD-40 ebased OCT-guided zero contrast PCI in ISR of SVG in a CKD patient, although further prospective studies are needed to evaluate this technique.

  • Structural and photoluminescence investigations of Cr3+ mixed Li2O—Bi2O3—ZrO2—SiO2 glass ceramics for optoelectronic device application

    摘要: Chromium oxide mixed Li2O―Bi2O3―ZrO2―SiO2 (Cr3+:LBZS) glasses were crystallized by heat treatment. Structural (X-ray di?raction, surface morphology, energy dispersion, DTA, FT-IR and Raman) and spectroscopic (optical absorption and luminescence), of these Cr3+:LBZS glass ceramics were studied. XRD pattern of Cr3+: LBZS glass ceramic samples exhibited distinct crystalline peaks. SEM images of the Cr3+: LBZS glass ceramic materials have revealed well identi?ed and distributed crystals of reformed size. The glass transition (Tg) and various crystallization temperatures (Tc1), (Tc2) and (Tc3) of these ceramics were identi?ed by DTA analysis. The shift in the wavenumbers of di?erent symmetrical and asymmetrical band positions of these glass ceramics were analysed by FT-IR and Raman studies. The optical bandgap (Eo), CFSE (Dq) and nephelauxetic ratio (β) were calculated. Photoluminescence properties were also investigated.

  • Bright optical solitons for Lakshmanan–Porsezian–Daniel model with spatio-temporal dispersion by improved Adomian decomposition method

    摘要: This paper conducts numerical studies of optical solitons with Lakshmanan–Porsezian–Daniel model having spatio-temporal dispersion. A newly proposed version of the well-known Adomian's decomposition method is applied to secure numerical simulations of the recently reported analytical soliton solutions. The focus of this paper stays with bright soliton solutions to the model.

  • Multi-soliton propagation in generalized inhomogeneous NLS equation with symmetric potentials

    摘要: We investigate the generalized inhomogeneous NLS equation with symmetric potentials. Corresponding Lax pair is constructed through AKNS procedure. Based on the obtained Lax pair, one and two soliton solutions are generated via Darboux transformation technique. Using the obtained soliton solution, the impact of symmetric potentials on soliton dynamics is investigated. By tailoring the dispersion and nonlinearity coefficients, propagation properties of solitons are analyzed. Especially, properties of oscillating solitons and tunneling behavior are investigated. From the results, we have found that the symmetric potentials have strong influence on soliton dynamics such as period of oscillations, interaction behavior etc. Obtained results open a new window to controlling the soliton through symmetric potentials.

  • An Improved Optical Parameter Optimisation Approach Using Taguchi and Genetic algorithm for High Transmission Optical Filter Design

    摘要: High transmission optical filters require specific filter characteristics and set of optimisation methods since precision in output performance plays a vital role in such applications. In this paper, an improved genetic algorithm approach to optimise high transmission optical filter is described. High transmission of around 99% in the wavelength region of 525-575 nm without any dips in between is the main performance requirement desired. The optimisation parameters are layer thickness, refractive index and number of layers and design wavelength is 550 nm in visible region. The method integrates the Taguchi method and genetic algorithm. First, Taguchi method is used to reduce the number of design experiments and find the minimum possible number of optimised set of values that represents the quality performance of the system. Then, genetic algorithm is applied to search the optimal design parameters. The performance is determined in terms of transmittance. Three levels for each optimisation parameter were considered. The total number of design experiments to be performed (in worst case) using genetic algorithm only with three optimisation variables and three levels is approximately 33=27 for obtaining the best design that matches the desired performance whereas Taguchi integrated genetic method helped in finding the best matching design with 9 design experiments. The best transmission performance was obtained for 24 layers, with thickness range 10-123.75 nm and high and low refractive index of 2.1 and 1.38. This method is a very robust approach that can be used for design parameter optimisation of optical filters for high transmission applications.

  • Polarized THz Emission from In-Plane Dipoles in Monolayer Tungsten Disulfide by Linear and Circular Optical Rectification

    摘要: Recent advances in the development of polarized terahertz (THz) emission from nanomaterials have not only opened up a new “TeraNano” interdiscipline but also provided a new tool for nonlinear optical process research. Herein, THz radiation mechanism of monolayer tungsten disulfide (WS2) is first investigated by both linear and circular polarization laser excitations at room temperature. The results reveal that polarized THz emission is dominated by the optical rectification based on in-plane nonlinear dipoles, which is totally different from that of bulk WS2. The mechanism is verified by the azimuthal angle and pump polarization angle dependence of THz emission in both experiment and theory. Furthermore, controllably elliptically polarized THz emission is observed with the maximum ellipticity of ≈0.52 based on nonresonant nonlinear process under the circularly polarized excitation. A clear understanding of THz radiation mechanism of 2D materials will facilitate further design, optimization, and polarization control of integrable 2D THz optoelectronics.

  • Understanding structure, optical, and electrical properties of In4Sn3O12 and In4.5Sn2M0.5O12 (M?=?Nb and Ta)

    摘要: The current research aims to investigate transparent conducting properties of In4Sn3O12 related compounds. Undoped and M-doped In4Sn3O12 with the formula In4+xSn3-2xMxO12 (Mx = Nb0.5 and Ta0.5) have been successfully synthesized by solid state reaction as confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction. Interestingly, only the composition with x = 0.5 could be achieved without impurity. The oxidation states of all elements were identified by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to be In3+, Sn4+, Nb5+, and Ta5+. The larger optical band gap energies were obtained in doped samples, which agree with the results from DFT calculations. Although the conductivity of In4Sn3O12 is relatively high, those of In4.5Sn2Nb0.5O12 and In4.5Sn2Ta0.5O12 are much lower. To investigate the conduction mechanism, the conductivity of the samples after heat treatment in N2 was studied. The improved conductivity after such annealing along with the results from X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy suggest that the major charge carriers are electrons created from oxygen vacancies in the lattice. The results from computational calculations indicate that Nb, Ta, and for comparison, Sb substitutions do not significantly change the band structure nor the carrier mobility. However, Sb could lower the oxygen vacancy formation energy which might be the reason of lower resistivity in Sb substituted In4Sn3O12. Besides the oxygen vacancy formation energy, the nature of donor states is important in determining the electrical conduction in the samples.

  • Electrochromic performance of chromium-doped Co3O4 nanocrystalline thin films prepared by nebulizer spray technique

    摘要: Pristine and chromium (Cr)-doped tricobalt tetraoxide (Co3O4) thin films were grown on glass and FTO substrates by nebulized spray pyrolysis technique. The structural, optical and electrical properties of the pristine and Cr-doped Co3O4 films were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Raman, and four-probe method. The chemical environment of the elements present in the films was identified from energy dispersive X-ray analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The effect of chromium doping on optical constants is discussed in detail. The electrochromic studies reveal that better optical modulation (?T = 38.3%) and high coloration efficiency (CE = 47 cm2/C) were obtained for 6 at. % of Cr-doped Co3O4 film. The present work suggests that incorporation of Cr in Co3O4 will enhance its electrochromic performance.

  • Impact of surface micromorphology and demineralization severity on enamel loss measurements by cross-polarization optical coherence tomography

    摘要: Objectives: Optical Coherence tomography (OCT) is a promising clinical imaging technology for quantitative and objective assessment of dental erosion. We aimed to determine the influence of enamel surface roughness and demineralization severity (by erosive challenge) on dental surface loss measurements by cross-polarization OCT (CP-OCT). Materials and methods: Human enamel specimens were prepared with three surface roughness levels (very rough, rough and polished; n = 10 each). They were evaluated using CP-OCT and optical profilometry (gold standard) at baseline, and after 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 16 and 24 h of erosion demineralization. The effects of roughness and demineralization on enamel loss were analyzed using ANOVA (alpha = 0.05). Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) and Bland-Altman plots were used to evaluate inter-method agreement and intra-examiner repeatability. Results: CP-OCT surface loss measurements did not significantly differ with the changes in enamel surface roughness (p = 0.27). Among demineralization severities, CP-OCT surface loss measurements at 1, 2, 4 and 8 h did not differ among each other, but they showed significantly lower enamel loss than 16 and 24 h; 6 and 16 h were significantly lower than 24 h (p < 0.05). Overall, CP-OCT and optical profilometry measurements did not differ (p = 0.73); however, ICC was relatively low (ICC = 0.34). Enamel loss estimation by CP-OCT presented an error of approximately ± 150 μm compared to profilometry. Intra-examiner repeatability with CP-OCT was excellent (ICC = 0.98). Conclusions: Enamel roughness did not affect CP-OCT measurements. The estimated error of CP-OCT measurements limited the appropriate assessment of enamel erosion surface loss, in the magnitude simulated in this study. Clinical relevance: Enamel thickness measurement by CP-OCT presents potential as an objective method for monitoring dental erosion lesions; however, its use may be limited for the assessment of the initial stages of enamel surface loss by erosion.
