Effects of anisotropic oceanic turbulence on the propagation of the OAM mode of a partially coherent modified Bessel correlated vortex beam
摘要: We have studied the impacts of anisotropic turbulence on the orbital angular momentum (OAM) mode of a partially coherent modified Bessel correlated vortex beam propagation in an oceanic channel. In the weak turbulence paraxial channel, a new model of the probability density of OAM modes has been established. Effects of specific parameters of the oceanic turbulence on it have been studied, it is shown that there is an optimizing receiving aperture diameter in the specific interval of the ratio of temperature and salinity (cid:2) , which can reduce the effect of (cid:2) on the normalized energy weight of OAM modes and the reception of fluctuation signal. The effect of oceanic turbulence with higher anisotropy on the OAM signal is weaker than the turbulence possessing lower anisotropy. We can choose the mode carrying lower OAM quantum number to transfer information more efficiently, and we can utilize the OAM mode with large energy level difference between modes and so on to reduce mode interference and enhance the information capacity of optical communication links.

Uncertainties of optical-model parameters for the study of the threshold anomaly
摘要: In the analysis of elastic-scattering experimental data, optical-model parameters (usually, depths of real and imaginary potentials) are (cid:12)tted and conclusions are drawn analyzing their variations at bombardment energies close to the Coulomb barrier (threshold anomaly). The judgement about the shape of this variation (related to the physical processes producing this anomaly) depends on these (cid:12)tted values but the robustness of the conclusions strongly depends on the uncertainties with which these parameters are derived. We will show that previous published studies have not used a common criterium for the evaluation of the parameter uncertainties. In this work, a study of these uncertainties is presented, using conventional statistic tools as well as bootstrapping techniques. As case studies, these procedures are applied to re-analyze detailed elastic-scattering data for the 12C + 208Pb and the 6Li + 80Se systems.

Laboratory precision measurements of optical emissions from coronal iron
摘要: Total solar eclipses, as the recent one seen across North America, are rare opportunities for optical spectroscopy of the corona. In view of the dearth of accurate rest-frame wavelength data, we measured 11 of the strongest optical coronal lines belonging to Fe X-XIV thereby proving the existence of the Fe XII line at 290.385(8) nm. Four lines, such as the green coronal line at 530.28113(13) nm, were measured with unprecedented precision, allowing in principle for absolute velocity determinations of plasmas with uncertainties of 0.08 km s?1. These results furthermore stringently benchmark the theory of complex open-3p-shell ions.

Turbulence-induced optical loss and cross-talk in spatial-mode multiplexed or single-mode free-space communication channels
摘要: Single-mode or mode multiplexed free-space atmospheric optical channels have drawn increasingly more attention in the past decade. The scope of their possible applications spans from the compatibility with the telecom WDM technology, fiber amplifiers, and modal multiplexing for increasing the channel throughput to various quantum communication related primitives such as entanglement distribution, high-dimensional spatially encoded quantum key distribution, and relativistic quantum cryptography. Many research papers discuss application of specific mode sets, such as optical angular momentum modes, for communication in the presence of atmospheric turbulence. At the same time some basic properties and key relations for such channels exposed to the atmospheric turbulence have not been derived yet. In the current paper we present simple analytic expressions and a general framework for assessing probability density functions of channel transmittance as well as modal cross-talk coefficients. Under some basic assumptions the presented results can be directly used for estimation of the Fried parameter of the turbulent channel based on the measured statistics of the fundamental mode transmittance coefficient.

Estimation of refractive index for biological tissue using micro-optical coherence tomography
摘要: The refractive index of biological tissue is required for investigating the tissue’s optical properties. Efforts have been made to characterize refractive indices of biological tissues at a single wavelength, but it is more convenient to know the Cauchy’s coefficients, which provide refractive index over a wide range of wavelengths. We demonstrate a method to noninvasively provide the Cauchy’s dispersion coefficients of biological tissues using micro-optical coherence tomography. Using short-frequency Fourier transforms, the relative optical thickness of the sample in the wavelength range of the broadband source was obtained from interferograms. The coefficients of Cauchy’s equation were estimated based on the wavelength-dependent sample thickness. We validated the proposed method using distilled water and fresh rat cornea ex vivo, and the experimental results were consistent with the reference data.

Salt-Dependent Rheology and Surface Tension of Protein Condensates Using Optical Traps
摘要: An increasing number of proteins with intrinsically disordered domains have been shown to phase separate in buffer to form liquidlike phases. These protein condensates serve as simple models for the investigation of the more complex membraneless organelles in cells. To understand the function of such proteins in cells, the material properties of the condensates they form are important. However, these material properties are not well understood. Here, we develop a novel method based on optical traps to study the frequency-dependent rheology and the surface tension of P-granule protein PGL-3 condensates as a function of salt concentration. We find that PGL-3 droplets are predominantly viscous but also exhibit elastic properties. As the salt concentration is reduced, their elastic modulus, viscosity, and surface tension increase. Our findings show that salt concentration has a strong influence on the rheology and dynamics of protein condensates suggesting an important role of electrostatic interactions for their material properties.

Impact of image averaging on wide-field choroidal thickness measurements using enhanced-depth imaging optical coherence tomography
摘要: Background: The aim of this study was to examine the influence of B-scan averaging on choroidal thickness using wide-field enhanced-depth imaging optical coherence tomography. Methods: Six high-resolution trans-foveal horizontal enhanced-depth imaging line scans (spanning a 60° field) were acquired consecutively from the right eye of 10 healthy adults (mean age 30 ± 5 years), with each line scan an average of 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 or 100 B-scans, using the automated real-time image averaging and follow-up features of a Spectralis device. The impact of B-scan averaging on regional measures of wide-field choroidal thickness (across macular and peripheral regions) and their accuracy was investigated, assuming that averaging 100 B-scans would provide the most accurate estimate of choroidal thickness. Results: Regional estimates of wide-field choroidal thickness did not vary across the different B-scan averaging conditions (all p > 0.05). The mean choroidal thickness averaged across the full wide-field area exhibited the closest agreement to measures obtained with 100 averaged B-scans, when frame averaging exceeded 30 B-scans (95 per cent limits of agreement +10 to ?7, +7 to ?7 and +6 to ?3 μm for 30, 40 and 50 averaged B-scans, respectively), compared to 10 and 20 averaged B-scans (95 per cent limits of agreement +13 to ?8 and +13 to ?6 μm, respectively; p < 0.01 and p < 0.02 compared to the accuracy of 50 averaged B-scans). Conclusion: Averaging 30 B-scans for an individual enhanced-depth imaging optical coherence tomography line scan provided accurate measures of choroidal thickness across a wide-field (60°) area in young healthy eyes. This information can assist in designing the volumetric scan protocols required for detailed examination of the macular and peripheral choroid.

摘要: PLZT actuators taken as one type of photo-deformable actuators have been widely applied for micro-driven systems and active vibration control of photostrictive laminated flexible structures. However, the slow response of photodeformation of single patch PLZT actuator greatly affects its application. In this paper, the main factors for the slow response of the PLZT actuator are investigated using experimental method. The increasing temperature during light on state and the residual photovoltage and photodeformation during light off state are considered to be the main factors for the slow response of the PLZT actuator. To improve the driving performance of PLZT ceramic, some effective measures through reducing the effect of increasing temperature and eliminating residual photovoltage and photodeformation are proposed and experimentally validated in this paper. Considering the effective measures proposed in this paper, two novel optical driving mechanisms based on PLZT bimorph and multi-patches combination for driving source are proposed.

Melanin Pigmentation in Rat Eyes: In Vivo Imaging by Polarization-Sensitive Optical Coherence Tomography and Comparison to Histology
摘要: The purpose of this study was to demonstrate polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography (PS-OCT) for imaging pigmented structures in the posterior eye segments of albino and pigmented rats and to correlate depolarization contrast of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and choroid in in vivo PS-OCT to melanin pigmentation detected in postmortem histologic serial sections. In vivo three-dimensional PS-OCT imaging was performed in adult albino and pigmented rat eyes at 70-kHz A-line rate. Degree of polarization uniformity (DOPU) fundus maps and radial DOPU pro?les were generated. Postmortem histomorphologic analysis was performed in order to investigate melanin pigmentation of the RPE and choroid. Fundus pigmentation maps were extracted from histologic serial sections. Pigmentation pro?les were correlated to DOPU pro?les of the same eyes. Strong depolarization was found in the RPE/choroid complex of pigmented rats, whereas the same structures exhibited uniform polarization in albino rats. The difference between the depolarization characteristics between albino and pigmented animals was statistically signi?cant. In the fundus pigmentation maps, optical pigment density was zero in albino rat eyes. In pigmented rat eyes, a strong negative correlation between optical pigment density and DOPU was observed. This in vivo and ex vivo investigation of posterior rat eyes indicates that melanin is the cause of depolarization in retinal PS-OCT images. It further demonstrates that melanin pigmentation in the RPE and choroid can be quanti?ed via depolarization imaging and therefore suggests that PS-OCT is a useful tool for the noninvasive quantitative assessment of pigmentary changes in vision-threatening diseases such as age-related macular degeneration.

Synthesis, Growth and Characterization of Nonlinear Optical Ce-Doped L-Prolinium Picrate Single Crystals
摘要: A non-linear optical material L-prolinium picrate and cerium doped L-prolinium picrate were synthesized and grown as single crystals by slow evaporation method. The grown crystals were subjected to structural, elemental, thermal, optical and dielectric studies. The structural analysis reveals that pure L-prolinium picrate and Ce doped L-prolinium picrate belongs to the monoclinic crystallographic system with space group P21. Optical transparency of the grown crystals was investigated by UV-visible-NIR spectrum. The thermal analyses reveal that Ce doped L-prolinium picrate is thermally stable up to 162 °C. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the crystals were studied as a function of frequency. The non-linear optical property of the doped crystal was confirmed by the Kurtz-powder second harmonic generation test and the result is compared with pure L-prolinium picrate. Mechanical strength of the crystals was also carried out by Vicker's micro hardness test.
