  • Modeling the Diffraction Efficiency of Reflective-Type PQ-PMMA VBG Using Simplified Rate Equations

    摘要: A simulation based on the rate equations was performed to analyze the concentration distribution of molecules in phenanthrenequinone (PQ) doped polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) polymers (PQ-PMMAs) exposed using a two-beam interference configuration. The concentration distributions were used to predict the diffraction efficiency of PQ-PMMA-based volume Bragg gratings (VBGs) by using the transfer matrix method. The simulation results suggest that an intermittent exposure method can promote the diffusion of PQ molecules and increase the final diffraction efficiency. A series of experiments validated our hypothesis that the diffraction efficiency of reflective-type PQ-PMMA VBG can be predicted.

  • Dynamic response of ferrofluidic deformable mirrors using elastomer membrane and overdrive techniques

    摘要: The experimental results obtained with a ferrofluidic deformable mirror controlled by electro-magnet actuators are presented here. Using a step input through a single actuator, we obtained a steady-state settling time of 100 ms; however, different combinations of overdrive inputs can be used to decrease it to 25 ms. A new technique which consists of laying down an elastomer membrane, coated with an aluminum film, on the ferrofluid is also discussed. By adding the membrane on the ferrofluid, it further decreases the time response by a factor of 2. Furthermore, the thin aluminum layer improves the reflectivity of the mirror. Finally, using the membrane and the overdrive techniques combined, the time response is improved by a factor of 20. Numerical simulations show that ferrofluidic mirrors using membranes and improved electronics should reach settling times of the order of a millisecond. Presumably, even lower settling times could be possible.

  • All-carbon THz components based on laser-treated diamond

    摘要: We report on fs laser structuring and graphitization of diamond and experimental characterization of its THz response. A full characterization of graphitized, conductive layer generated by laser irradiation is carried out by performing scanning-electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy and electrical measurements. The transmittance of the laser textured diamond samples, both with the graphitic overlayer and after selective oxidizing etching, is analyzed in the (0.25 ÷ 6.0) THz spectral range. A significant selective absorption of the graphitized overlayer towards polarized THz radiation is demonstrated, which is associated to the formation of graphitic laser induced periodic surface structures. This anisotropy allows conceiving compact passive metasurfaces based on conductive/dielectric patterns on the diamond plate surface for the development of robust, lightweight and broadband THz optical components.

  • Laser Beam Shaping Applications || Laser Beam Shaping in Array-Type Laser Printing Systems

    摘要: In a variety of applications, including longitudinal solid-state laser pumping,1–4 fiber coupling for fiber lasers, and line printers,5–12 laser diode arrays have proven to be very effective light sources when combined with the appropriate beam shaping optics. As laser arrays can be designed in numerous ways, such as with phase-coupled single-mode emitters, uncoupled single-mode emitters, or uncoupled multimode emitters, the output properties of both the individual beams and the ensemble of beams vary dramatically. Inherently, many beam properties, including the output power level, beam profiles and beam propagation properties, beam coherence effects, and the overall device layout, are dependent upon the emitter structure. The optical systems that have been designed to work with these highly nontraditional light sources, which are anamorphic in both physical layout and beam properties, are themselves nontraditional, and typically employ a variety of modern micro-optical components. Within that context, a variety of unique systems13–15 have been developed for high-power, high-throughput printing applications, where the laser light is transformed into a linear arrangement of individually modulated beams and imaged onto a light-sensitive media. These systems typically combine the design and analysis techniques from classical imaging optics, illumination optics, and Gaussian beam optics into integral wholes. Certainly, many of the design concepts that have evolved to support the laser thermal printing application are applicable to other endeavors, of which laser projection is an example.

    摘要: Within the last decade, most applications in data communication and storage, as well as sensing, have become highly integrated, leading to an incorporation and adaption of optical components toward high integration levels [1]. For this purpose, photonic integrated circuits (PICs) have attracted a large interest as they contain several optical components in a single chip (all-in-one package), reducing the size, weight, power consumption, and the cost of optical-to-electrical-to-optical conversions [2]. The interest in PICs is also justified by other advantages, such as minimum number of optical fiber connections, high sensitivity, and electromagnetic immunity [3].

    摘要: We proposed a method of laser beam homogenization based on different optical components. Applications in various experiments the homogenization system significantly reduces the focal spot non-uniformity in high-speed photolithography. By virtue of the advantages such as high efficiency, high brightness and high reliability, laser is widely applied in various applications. The homogenization system of the laser beam normally presents non-uniformity in high speed photolithography. Therefore, in order to achieve uniform flat-top beam distribution, the laser beam homogenization technology emerges. In this component, we used different optical to homogenize laser beam, Conducted experiments and verified the feasibility of the method. The experiments were performed on SII light speed device. We used framing camera to photograph the process of the laser beam homogenization and processed the image with non-uniformity reduction algorithm. The results show that the homogenization system significantly reduces the focal spot non-uniformity in high-speed photolithography.
