    摘要: We demonstrate the first OPO based on random phase matching. The OPO was based on ZnSe ceramic pumped by 62-fs, λ=2.35-μm Cr:ZnS laser pulses, had 90-mW pump threshold and produced an ultra-broad spectrum spanning 3–7.5 μm.

    摘要: In this paper an ultrathin lensed fiber-optics probe for multiphoton fluorescence endoscopy is presented. The probe is made by attaching a segment of multimode (MM) fiber to the distal end of the hollow core, photonic bandgap fiber (HCPBF) and generating a curved surface at the tip of the MM fiber using a fiber arc fusion splicer the electric arc of a fusion splicer. The curved surface served as a micro fiber-optic lens and focused the exiting light beam. It simultaneously protected the HCF tip against contamination.

  • Realization of modified Luneburg lens antenna using quasi-conformal transformation optics and additive manufacturing

    摘要: We demonstrate a new method for realizing modified Luneburg lens antennas with nearly continuously graded permittivity profiles in three-dimensions. The method used a quasi-conformal transformation optics (QCTO) approach to modify the geometry and permittivity of a spherical Luneburg lens to have a flat surface for convenient integration of antenna feeds. The modified lens was then fabricated using Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) printing with an effective media approach that employs space-filling curves. The method was validated by designing and fabricating a modified Luneburg lens antenna designed to operate in the Ka-band. The antenna performance of the sample was measured experimentally and shown to compare well to predicted results using full wave simulations. The device was able to achieve a reasonably high degree of beam steering (ie, ?55° to +55°) over the entire Ka-band. We believe this new approach provides a cost-effective and scalable means of realizing practical passive beam steering lenses that operate over a broad range of frequencies.

  • An optimization model for quadratic flow thinning – a traffic protection mechanism for FSO networks

    摘要: Flow thinning (FT) is an active traffic protection mechanism destined for communication networks with variable capacity of links, for example wireless networks. In FT, end-to-end traffic demands are equipped with dedicated logical tunnels (for example MPLS tunnels) whose maximal capacities are subject to thinning in order to follow the fluctuations of the currently available link capacities. It follows that for each demand the instantaneous traffic realized between its end nodes must accommodate to the current total capacity available on its dedicated tunnels. In the paper we develop an optimization model for network dimensioning for an applicative modification of FT, the so called Quadratic Flow Thinning (QFT), and present a solution algorithm based on the path generation method. We derive relevant pricing problems for basic variants of the QFT mechanism (and for its special case Affine Flow Thinning, AFT), and present a numerical study that illustrates efficiency of the optimization algorithm, as well as compares the network cost for different variants of QFT and AFT.

  • Laguerre–Gauss and Hermite–Gauss soft X-ray states generated using diffractive optics

    摘要: Light’s capacity to carry angular momentum is integral to our knowledge of physics and ability to probe matter. In addition to spin, photons can occupy free-space orbital angular momentum eigenstates. Visible light orbital angular momentum is used in quantum information experiments, super-resolution microscopy, optical tweezers and angular momentum transfer to atoms in optical lattices. Soft X-ray orbital angular momentum applications, slowed by the lack of suitable optics and the rarity of coherent X-ray sources, could enable the direct alteration of atomic states through orbital angular momentum exchange, and methods to study the electronic properties of quantum materials. We have made soft X-ray diffractive optics that generate single Laguerre–Gauss modes, observed carrying up to 30? angular momentum per photon, or their superpositions. We also present Hermite–Gauss diffractive optics and a soft X-ray orbital angular momentum analyser. These tools could enable both the manipulation and finer characterization of topologically complex electronic matter, such as magnetic skyrmions.

  • A non-singular transformation optics invisibility cloak by combining with scattering cancellation.

    摘要: A mechanism-based method to suppress the transformation optics cloaking singularities is proposed. Using the invariance nature of the Maxwell’s equations, instead of a point, a scattering cancellation cloaked circle is used as the virtual space for the transformation. The advantages of the proposed method includes non-singular constitutive parameters and significantly reduced variation range. Singularity removal is proved analytically while invisibility is demonstrated numerically using COMSOL Multiphysics.

Coincidences in pair emission show a 95% visibility for the photonic die. Just a small degradation is observed after wafer-level transfer to a BiCMOS electronics wafer in the 1550-nm region.

  • Development of highly nonlinear polarization-maintaining fibers with normal dispersion across entire transmission window

    摘要: A determined polarization state of light is required in nonlinear optics applications related to ultrashort and single-cycle light pulse generation. Such short timescales require up to one full octave of the spectral width of light. A fiber-based, pulse-preserving and linearly polarized supercontinuum can meet these requirements. We report on the development—from linear simulations of the fiber structure, through fabrication of physical fibers to their versatile characterization—of polarization-maintaining, highly nonlinear photonic crystal fibers, intended for femtosecond pumping at a wavelength of 1560 nm. A full octave of linearly polarized light around this wavelength would enable the covering of amplification bandwidths of the three major fiber amplifiers, from ytterbium-doped systems up to thulium- and holmium-doped fiber amplifiers, with a coherent, linearly polarized seed signal. At the same time, an all-normal chromatic dispersion profile over an entire transmission window, and a small dispersion of nonlinearity in the developed fibers, would facilitate use of commercially available femtosecond fiber lasers as pump sources for the developed fibers.

    摘要: In this paper, we present a new approach to design photonic crystal based optical filters using machine learning based mathematical model. The presented optical filter device finds its application in near infrared spectral range. The design and spectral response of the filter can be predicted using the proposed mathematical model which can considerably reduce simulation time and efforts. The numerical simulation of the optical filter device along with its spectral results and mathematical modeling are described.

    摘要: Nanophotonics is a rapidly evolving field, exploring behaviour of light on the micro/nano scale and the interaction of micro/nano objects with light. The driving force for its development is the promise to go far beyond the conventional boundaries of photonics. Because of the diffraction limit, high-density regular optical components do not have the ability to confine light down to the microscale dimension. The footprint of devices becomes more critical for applications with limited physical space, such as on-chip silicon-based photonic devices. In this paper, a review of some of the most significant accomplishments in the field of stimulated Raman scattering in microstructures is reported. These findings indicate promising perspectives for integrated Raman lasers.
