  • STEPPED SLOT PATCH ANTENNA WITH COPPER GROUND PLANE AND SOLAR CELL GROUND PLANE FOR FUTURE MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS

    摘要: A new structure design of a multi-band suspended stepped slot microstrip patch antenna with copper ground plane for future mobile communications is proposed and presented. A parametric study for the e?ect on the proposed antenna is done on a par with the integration of a polycrystalline silicon solar cell. The compact low pro?le proposed antenna is developed using Printed Circuit Board (PCB) technology on a substrate, FR4 with physical size of 50 × 50 mm2. Simulated and measured results are presented to validate the usefulness of the proposed antenna structure for Wi-Max and future mobile communications. The measured result reveals that the presented stepped slot patch antenna with copper ground plane o?ers impedance bandwidth of 3.94% (covering 5.46 GHz–5.68 GHz band), 3.06% (covering 7.08 GHz–7.3 GHz band), and 9.26% (covering 8.34 GHz–9.15 GHz band). The same radiating patch with solar ground plane o?ers impedance bandwidth of 4.58% (covering 5.12 GHz–5.36 GHz band) and 3.06% (covering 7.32 GHz–8.02 GHz band) for future mobile communications. Good VSWR and radiation pattern characteristics are obtained in the frequency band of interest.

    摘要: This paper presents a recon?gurable aperture-fed patch antenna array for ±45? polarizations. First, a new method to realize the recon?gurable ±45? polarizations is proposed. It introduces controllable RF switches on a cross-aperture to excite a square patch for two orthogonal polarizations. The RF switches are controlled by two sets of DC biases, which could select the polarization through the recon?gurable aperture. Second, two patch antennas based on cross-aperture excitation are discussed. The ?rst structure uses a split ground plane with four switches, while the other one employs a united ground plane with eight switches. Both antennas operate well as the single element. However, only the antenna with a united ground is suitable for developing a recon?gurable dual-polarized antenna array, owning to its simple DC biasing lines and the recon?gurable-controlling network. Both simulation and experiment studies were examined to verify the proposed design. The measured 10-dB impedance bandwidth of the array is 9.3%, which can cover the 2.4-GHz WLAN band. The desired radiation patterns were observed with a maximum gain of 13.5 dBi. The proposed antenna array has low cross-polarization and stable gain across the entire operating bandwidth.

    摘要: This paper presents metamaterial based monopole patch antenna capable of tuning the radiating frequency over a wide bandwidth. The proposed novel antenna structure makes use of the metamaterial properties of Broadside Coupled Split Ring Resonator (BCSRR) for frequency tuning. The magnetic resonant frequency of the proposed antenna can be tuned by slightly adjusting the interplanar distance between the rings of the BCSRR so that the coupling due to effective capacitance and inductance between them can be changed. The desired range of frequency tuning for potential applications like Global System for Mobiles (GSM), Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Wi-Max, WLAN etc. is achieved by proper designing of the geometrical parameters of BCSRR. The different antennas for different applications in a single device can be replaced with the proposed novel metamaterial based antenna structure.

    摘要: Minimal profile antennas for wireless devices which characteristics consisted of being low cost, highly reliable, and lightweight, it bears a new challenge for the design of the antenna in wireless communications. In this paper, we propose a design of circularly polarized microstrip patch antenna integration with solar cells for green wireless applications. Two techniques have been proposed to form the prototype between the communication system (design of antenna) and solar panel (solar cell). Both methods will face two issues generally; the solar system needs to get 100% sunlight and the magnetic field produced by radio communication systems as well as the electric field produced by solar cells should not affect the efficiency. The antenna is composed of a Koch fractal loop patch and the substrate is employed using a transparent material. This enables the light to pass through with high efficiency to illuminate the solar panel cells while the RF performance is maintained with minimal degradation. The communication frequency measures 2.6, 3.5 and 4.4 GHz. CST MWS simulation is also studied and compared among the different substrates which show different results based on the same parameters, which is implemented with a lattice of 2×2 square solar cells. With this arrangement, the solar cells will be able to obtain 100% of sunlight exposure. The characteristics of the broadband are achieved by combining resonances and the minimum axial ratio points created by the driven patch and solar cell surface.

  • A 2.4 GHz Rectenna based on a Solar Cell Antenna Array

    摘要: Combined solar and radiofrequency harvesting systems are drawing attention by offering self-powered ability to low power devices, an essential aspect to the success of the Internet of Things. One of the main challenges of these harvesting systems is to improve rectennas ef?ciency by optimizing the individual energy collection and conversion capacity of each source. To overcome this issue, this letter presents a novel 2.4 GHz rectenna structure for solar and radiofrequency energy harvesting applications based on a coplanar antenna array integrated with multi-crystalline solar cells, whose aluminum rear terminals are used as radiators for the antenna array. The results obtained by simulations and measurements showed that it is possible to collect energy from two different types of sources in a complementary manner, using the rectenna design proposed, making possible to feed low-power devices remotely.

    摘要: These days’ RF communication frequencies, and technology is advancing towards a higher frequency spectrum with wide bandwidth for higher data rate, miniaturization and portability. For high frequency and wide bandwidth a low loss, efficient and compact wideband microstrip antenna development with convenient analysis is crucial. In this paper, we developed a wide band highly efficient stack patch antenna for Ku-band and analyze the model with characteristics mode analysis. The developed antenna has -10dB impedance bandwidth from 13.1-15.2GHz and -30dB bandwidth from 14-14.5GHz. Higher impedance matching leads to higher efficiency and high gain for the target center frequency of 14.25GHz.

  • Design and Analysis of Alphabetical Slots of Patch Antenna for Mobile Optical Communication at 60?GHz

    摘要: In the last decade, huge development has been seen in the field of wireless communication. The performance depends on the shape and size of the antenna. The future aim of wireless communication is to provide data with high speed data range even in harsh geographical areas. Here aim is to design and compare the E and H slot, T-slot, O-slot and U-slot antenna. The designed patch antenna operates at a frequency of 60 GHz with maximum antenna gain and minimum radiation loss using high frequency structure simulator (HFSS). We will use Rogers RT/duroid 5880 as substrate due to its suitable mechanical and insulating properties. Resonant frequency used will be 60 GHz and height will be 1.6 mm, 1.57 mm, 1.6 mm and 0.508 mm for E and H slot, T-slot, O-slot and U-slot, respectively.

    摘要: This paper presents a design of phased array antenna using a full 360o and programmable continuous phase shifter based on angle of arrival techniques of indoor localization. This antenna system allows to electrically steer main beam direction smoothly, so the number of beams is independent of the number of antenna elements as previous research, and resolution for indoor localization system is improved. Antenna elements are fed through parallel feed network including Wilkinson power dividers and full 360o, continuous phase shifters. Radiation patterns, experimented from -45o to 45o in an anechoic chamber, show that the main beam direction is quite close to the desired direction in simulation, and the side lobe level is less than main beam about 10dB.

  • Design of a Frequency and Polarization Reconfigurable Patch Antenna With a Stable Gain

    摘要: This paper presents a frequency and polarization reconfigurable patch antenna with a small gain variation. Eight discrete operating frequency bands can be achieved by properly switching shorting pins, and three polarization states, i.e., left-hand circularly polarization (LHCP), right-hand circularly polarization (RHCP) and linearly polarization (LP), can be realized simultaneously by adjusting perturbation segments. A stable gain performance is obtained within a wide reconfigurable frequency range, as well as all the reconfigurable polarization states, by utilizing the loss-character of p-i-n diodes when shorting pins are properly switched ON/OFF for different states. A prototype is designed, fabricated and measured. The simulated and measured results agree well. The experimental results show that the proposed antenna exhibits a simple reconfigurable network, a wide switching frequency range, a good element gain, and a small gain variation less than 1.8 dB across all the operating states.
