  • Finite bias evolution of bosonic insulating phase and zero bias conductance in boron-doped diamond: A charge-Kondo effect

    摘要: We report novel transport features in heavily boron-doped nanocrystalline diamond films, in particular an anomalous resistance peak near to the superconducting transition temperature and a strong zero bias conductance peak in the differential current-voltage spectra. The shape of the resistance-temperature curves near the critical temperature is seen to be strongly influenced by both magnetic field and bias current. As the bias current is lowered, the resistance peak becomes more pronounced, whereas when the magnetic field is varied the peak shifts towards lower temperatures. The resistance upturn shows a quadratic temperature dependence as expected for a Kondo transition. We find that a number of transport features such as resistance peak height, zero bias conduction peak height and width scale according to a power law dependence. We interpret these features as a result of a charge-Kondo effect where hole dopants act as degenerate Kondo impurities by opening additional pseudo-spin scattering channels.

  • Phase Conjugation and Mode Conversion in Stimulated Parametric Down-Conversion with Orbital Angular Momentum: a Geometrical Interpretation

    摘要: We report on an experiment that investigates the spatial mode conversion in the process of parametric down-conversion seeded by a light beam in a superposition of orbital angular momentum modes. This process is interpreted in terms of a geometric representation of first-order spatial modes in a Poincaré sphere, providing an intuitive image of the phase conjugation and the topological charge conservation. We also make a comparison with the analogous phenomenon for optical parametric oscillators.

  • Nano-BaTiO3 phase transition behavior in coated BaTiO3-based dielectric ceramics

    摘要: In this work, the phase structure of BaTiO3 nanopowders produced by the alkoxide-hydroxide and the hydrothermal method, respectively, was systemically investigated. BaTiO3 nanopowders with cubic phase produced by the alkoxide-hydroxide method could transform to tetragonal phase when heated to about 1100oC. Cubic to tetragonal phase transformation behavior of BaTiO3 nanopowders coated with 0.3BZT-0.7BT or 0.03Nb2O5-0.01Co2O3 was studied. The internal stress within core-shell structure was proposed to explain the BaTiO3 phase transformation behaviors. The mismatch of thermal expansion coefficient between core and shell plays a crucial role in cubic to tetragonal phase transformation of BaTiO3. By tuning the composition of shell and the ratio of the shell to the core, the cubic BaTiO3 core can transform to tetragonal phase successfully after sintering at 1100oC in BaTiO3 based ceramics with core-shell structure and it is mainly resulted by the reduced internal stress between the shell and core.

  • Large electric field-induced strain in ternary Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3-BaTiO3-Sr2MnSbO6 lead-free ceramics

    摘要: The large electric-field-induced strain of Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3-BaTiO3 based ceramic make it a potential replacement for lead-based ferroelectrics in actuator applications. Herein, a ternary system (1-x)(Bi0.5Na0.5)0.935Ba0.065TiO3-xSr2MnSbO6 (BNBT6.5-xSMS) ceramic was fabricated using conventional solid-state reaction. It was found that the ferroelectric to relaxor phase transition temperature TF-R gradually shifted to lower temperature by increasing SMS contents. The ferroelectricity and piezoelectricity of BNBT6.5 were highly affected by trace amount of SMS doping. For composition BNBT6.5-0.003SMS, where TF-R was near room temperature, a large electric-field-induced unipolar strain of ~0.4% with high normalized strain (Smax/Emax) of 728 pm/V, which is comparable to lead-based ferroelectric/antiferroelectric ceramics, was achieved owing to the reversible electric-field-induced phase transition between a non-polar relaxor phase to a polar phase with long-range ferroelectric order.

  • SNR analysis and estimation for efficient phase noise mitigation in millimetre-wave SC-FDE systems

    摘要: This study demonstrates a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) analysis and estimation algorithm for efficient phase noise mitigation that can be practically applied to single-carrier frequency-domain-equalisation (SC-FDE) systems that operate in millimetre-wave bands. First, the effect of phase noise in SC-FDE systems is investigated on each of the packet reception processes, namely, channel estimation, SNR estimation, and data-field reception. According to the analysis, an SNR estimation algorithm is proposed. The performance of minimum-mean-square-error equalisation and conventional phase noise mitigation algorithm can be enhanced using the proposed SNR estimation. The effectiveness of the proposed analysis and SNR estimation algorithm is verified through the link-level simulation. Compared with the conventional SNR estimation and the iterative phase noise mitigation algorithms, the proposed algorithm provides a lower packet-error rate without any iterative decoding process.

  • Stark shift in Y <sub/>2</sub> SiO <sub/>5</sub> :Er <sup>3+</sup> by the photon echo beating method

    摘要: The coefficient of a linear Stark shift of the 4F9/2–4I15/2 transition of Er3+ ion in Y2SiO5 is measured (14.3 kHz V?1 cm ) by splitting the upper and lower levels of the transition by a pulsed electric field and measuring the splitting frequency from the period of beatings of the temporal form of a photon echo signal (stark photon echo beating method). The linear Stark coefficients of Er3+ transitions in Y2SiO5 have not been measured before, and this is a valuable result for a number of applications such as gradient echo memory, group velocity control via spectral hole burning, etc.

  • Uniformity and repeatability of InAlN-barrier HEMTs growth by high-speed-rotation single-wafer MOCVD tool

    摘要: We fabricated high-electron-mobility transistor structures with InAlN as a barrier layer on 8- or 6-inch Si substrates by using a recently developed high-speed-wafer-rotation single-wafer MOCVD tool. It has been reported that Ga inclusion in the InAlN layer causes serious problems in the control of group III metal composition in some cases, but the samples grown using the tool exhibited an InAlN layer with an abrupt interface and almost no Ga inclusion. Excellent in-wafer uniformity, repeatability, and wafer-to-wafer uniformity of device structure are also reported. The results shown in this paper indicate high performance of the tool in the real production of devices.

  • Modified Doherty combiner with adjustable phase deviation

    摘要: In this paper, we propose a newly enhanced Doherty combiner by adding a 180° transmission line to the stage of the peaking amplifier of a typical Doherty combiner such that the designer can easily construct a combiner having a phase deviation to be turned on within the intended bandwidth. Given such characteristics, the proposed structure provides wider phase bandwidth and better performance with respect to power combining rate than the conventional structure does. We introduce formulas for the design variables of the added transmission line and also demonstrate its validity through circuit design and experiment.

  • Magnetic, magneto-optical and specific heat studies of the low temperature anomalies in the magnetodielectric DyIG ferrite garnet

    摘要: Measurements of magnetization and Cotton Mouton effect (CM) under external magnetic field (Hex) combined with specific heat experiments at Hex = 0, were performed on dysprosium iron garnet Dy3Fe5O12 (or DyIG) single crystals. From the low-temperature dependences of some magnetic, magneto-optical and thermodynamic quantities, such as spontaneous magnetization, both magnetic and CM susceptibilities and the excess specific heat due to the contribution of Dy3+ ions only, give rise to the appearance of two types of anomalies. The first one which is related to the ‘low temperature paraprocess’ effect, occurs in the region of the ‘Belov point’ TB predicted at 42 K. Whereas the second one, which is due to the previous spin reorientation transition, takes place at TSR = 15 K. The easy axis of magnetization which remains along the <111> direction above TSR, changes spontaneously below TSR and becomes aligned along the low symmetry angular <uuw> phases. The results are analyzed taking into account those reported earlier such the negative magnetodielectric effect for Hex < 10 kOe and the Schottky effect which cause anomalies respectively, in the dielectric constant at TSR and in the excess specific heat near the low temperature point TB.
