  • Extended Geometrical Perturbation Based Detectors for PolSAR Image Target Detection in Heterogeneously Patched Regions

    摘要: Target detection in synthetic aperture radar image utilizing polarimetric information has attracted considerable attention. Single-target detector (STD), partial-target detector (PTD), and geometrical perturbation-polarimetric notch filter (GP-PNF) are three traditional polarimetric detectors based on polarimetric information. STD aims at detecting single targets, whereas PTD is suitable for partial targets. GP-PNF focuses on detecting targets with features, which are different from the homogeneous background. Both STD and PTD need a prior knowledge of the target, whereas GP-PNF needs to estimate the local clutter automatically. All these three methods use a feature vector to describe the character of the target or clutter. In fact, the feature vectors of the clutter and target may distribute in a subspace. Especially for the heterogeneous background, a feature vector cannot accurately describe the clutter. Motivated by this, this paper extends the clutter model from a complex feature vector to a complex feature subspace, which is suitable for a heterogeneously patched region and derives extended PTD and extended GP-PNF. Experimental results show the extended detectors’ validation and superiority to traditional detectors for target detection in heterogeneous regions.

  • Glucose sensing in the presence of scattering by analyzing a partial Mueller matrix

    摘要: We propose a method to analyze a partial Mueller matrix to retrieve the optical rotation and depolarization properties simultaneously for measuring glucose concentration in the presence of scattering. A Mueller matrix polarimeter using dual photoelastic modulators and rotating half wave plates that can retrieve four partial Mueller matrices (nine elements each) for a particular orientation of half wave plates has been applied for this purpose. We verify the proposed technique by measuring di?erent glucose concentrations from the normal to diabetic range in the absence and presence of scattering. A measurement precision of 0.004° in optical rotation and 0.0004 in depolarization is achieved, so that the sensitivity of detecting glucose concentration is obtained as low as 20 mg/dl for a 40 mm path length cuvette, even in the presence of scattering medium.

    摘要: In this work the way to increase the security of fingerprints recognition the polarimetric technique to be used in recognition systems. The technique was tested on real and model objects. It was demonstrated that the proposed technique allows us to provide effective protection of the system from breaking. Experimental results argue for effectivity of polarimetric techniques against fingerprint spoofing in biometric recognition systems. Based on the polarimetric technique we made a design of polarimetric fiber sensor, which can be used in mobile systems.

  • Ghost polarimetry: ghost imaging of polarization-sensitive objects

    摘要: A new method of polarimetry which we have called ‘ghost polarimetry’ is suggested. The principle underlying the ghost imaging concept is generalized to polarization-sensitive objects which change the polarization state of incident light. Our theoretical model treats an object as a Jones matrix. In this approach, the information on the polarization properties of the object is contained in the elements of this matrix. We show that it is possible to connect the elements of Jones matrix with mutual correlation functions of the currents measured in the object arm and in two reference-arms where the signals in two orthogonal polarizations are registered. We demonstrate that the developed method allows to obtain polarization ghost image and therefore to identify the polarization structure of the object. Also it is shown that in order to implement this method the object should be illuminated by unpolarized incoherent light with Gaussian statistics. We believe that expanding the principle of ghost imaging to polarization sensitive objects will expand the diagnostic capabilities of existing polarimetry and ellipsometry technique.

  • Separability of Systematic Effects in Polarimetric GNSS Radio Occultations for Precipitation Sensing

    摘要: The Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) polarimetric effects on the propagation of radio occultations (ROs) are studied here. Polarimetric ROs have been suggested as a technique to detect heavy rain events using opportunity signals from GNSS satellites. The systematic effects that hinder the isolation of the precipitation information are described and their signi?cance and separability are assessed. A method that relies on the received phase difference between polarizations is presented. A dual-frequency extension is capable to completely separate the hydrometeor information from the other effects, including the ionospheric in?uence.

  • Geometric representation of polarization for a general three-dimensional optical field

    摘要: On the basis of previous work in this area, we propose a new geometric representation of polarization for a general three-dimensional (3D) optical field. This representation is based on the characteristic and eigenvalue decompositions of the 3 × 3 coherency matrix, which is appropriate for all 3D polarized optical fields, including totally polarized, partially polarized and totally un-polarized optical fields. Based on this representation method, the degree of polarization (DoP) for an arbitrary 3D optical field can be characterized by a unique point located on a spatial equilateral triangle. Correspondingly, the 3D state of polarization (SoP) can be illustrated by the 3D distribution maps of polarization ellipse quantitatively.
