Photodynamic therapy of cancer with liposomal photosensitizers
摘要: The photodynamic reaction involves the light-induced generation of an excited state in a photosensitizer molecule (PS), which then results in the formation of reactive oxygen species in the presence of oxygen, or a direct modification of a cellular molecule. Most PSs are porphyrinoids, which are highly lipophilic, and are administered usually in liposomes to facilitate their effective delivery to target cells. The currently available liposomal formulations are Visudyne R(cid:2) and Fospeg R(cid:2). Novel PSs were developed and tested for their photodynamic activity against cancer cells. Several compounds were highly phototoxic to oral cancer cells both in free and liposome-encapsulated form, with nanomolar IC50 values. The lowest IC50s (7–13 nM) were obtained with a PS encapsulated in cationic liposomes.

Study of alloyed quantum dots-porphyrazine interaction in solution
摘要: The core-shell quantum dots, namely, CdSxSe1-x/ZnS (QD), and free-base porphyrazine (1) undergoes spontaneous interaction in solution. Steady state fluorescence measurements reveal significant quenching of the photoluminescence of QD in presence of 1. The average value of lifetime of QD (16.10 ns) suffers negligible change in presence of 1 (15.55 ns). The value of bimolecular quenching constant, i.e., kq for QD-1 system (kq = 1.380 × 1011 litre·mol-1·sec-1) determined from time-resolved fluorescence experiment rules out the possibility of diffusion driven process in present work. The mechanism of binding interaction between QD and 1 is established following the evaluation of binding constant value, i.e., K = 12,720 litre·mol-1 for QD-1 system. The results emanating from present work would be very much helpful for employing QD-porphyrazine type system as possible binding unit in energy and/ electron transfer process.

Influence of the Nature of the Nitrogen-Containing Base on the Kinetic Stability of Tetra(1,2,5-thiadiazolo)porphyrazine in Dimethyl Sulfoxide
摘要: The state of tetrakis(1,2,5-thiadizole)porphyrazine in the DMSO medium was studied. The proton-transfer complex that formed was found to be quite stable. This complex was shown to decompose in some strong base solutions after some delay. The influence of either the nature of nitrogen-containing base and NH acidity of the porphyrazine macrocycle on the destruction kinetics of proton-transfer tetrakis(1,2,5-thiadizole)-porphyrazine complexes was investigated.
