  • Image Denoising Using Block-Rotation-Based SVD Filtering in Wavelet Domain

    摘要: This paper proposes an image denoising method using singular value decomposition (SVD) with block-rotation-based operations in wavelet domain. First, we decompose a noisy image to some sub-blocks, and use the single-level discrete 2-D wavelet transform to decompose each sub-block into the low-frequency image part and the high-frequency parts. Then, we use SVD and rotation-based SVD with the rank-1 approximation to filter the noise of the different high-frequency parts, and get the denoised sub-blocks. Finally, we reconstruct the sub-block from the low-frequency part and the filtered the high-frequency parts by the inverse wavelet transform, and reorganize each denoised sub-blocks to obtain the final denoised image. Experiments show the effectiveness of this method, compared with relevant methods.

  • Effect of Object Position in Cone Beam Computed Tomography Field of View for Detection of Root Fractures in Teeth with Intra-Canal Posts

    摘要: Background: Vertical root fracture (VRF) is a common problem in endodontically treated teeth. Due to its poor prognosis, a reliable technique must be used to make an accurate diagnosis. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) has been recently introduced for maxillofacial imaging. Despite the high diagnostic value of this method, metal artifacts resulting from intra-canal posts still make the detection of VRFs challenging. Objectives: This study aimed to assess the effect of object position in the field of view (FOV) of CBCT on detection of VRFs in teeth with intra-canal posts. Materials and Methods: The crowns of 60 extracted premolar teeth were cut at the level of cementoenamel junction (CEJ). Root canals were filled with gutta-percha and filling of the coronal 2/3 of the root canals was subsequently removed to fabricate intra-canal cast posts. The teeth were randomly divided into two groups of 30. Fracture was induced in group one using an Instron machine. Group two was considered as the control group with no fracture. All teeth were then randomly positioned and scanned in five different positions starting at the center of the FOV as well as right, left anterior and posterior relative to the center (3, 9, 12, and 6 O’clock) via the New Tom VGI CBCT unit. Two observers evaluated images for VRFs. Sensitivity and specificity of fracture diagnosis in each position was calculated in comparison with the gold standard. Wilcoxon test was used for data analysis. Results: Considering deterministic and probabilistic diagnostic parameters, probabilistic sensitivity was similar in all positions; but probabilistic specificity of the center position (65.1%) was significantly higher than that of 6 and 12 O’clock positions. Considering the deterministic diagnostic parameters, the overall sensitivity and specificity values decreased in all positions in FOV, but sensitivity of the center position of FOV was significantly higher than that of other positions; specificity was significantly higher at the 3 O’clock position (58.5%). Conclusion: Concerning the positions in FOV, the center position is suitable for detection of VRF in teeth with intra-canal posts due to significantly higher sensitivity at this position. The 3 O’clock position would be suitable for assessment of intact teeth without fractures due to significantly higher specificity at this position.

  • Minimal Timing Jitter in Superconducting Nanowire Single-Photon Petectors

    摘要: Using a two-temperature model coupled with the modified time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equation, we calculate the delay time τd in the appearance of a growing normal domain in the current-biased superconducting strip after absorption of the single photon. We demonstrate that τd depends on the place in the strip where the photon is absorbed and monotonically decreases with an increasing current. We argue that the variation of τd (timing jitter), connected either with position-dependent response or Fano fluctuations, could be as small as the lowest relaxation time of the superconducting order parameter, approximately ?/kBTc (Tc is the critical temperature of the superconductor), when the current approaches the depairing current.

  • Influence of the position dependent effective mass on the nonlinear optical properties in semiparabolic and parabolic quantum well with applied magnetic field

    摘要: In the current work, the nonlinear optical properties in GaAs/Ga1?xAlxAs semiparabolic and parabolic quantum well(QW) with constant effective mass(CEM) and position dependent effective mass(PDEM) are estimated for different applied magnetic field. In this regard, we have obtained the analytical expressions of the nonlinear rectification(OR), second harmonic generation(SHG), third harmonic generation(THG), optical absorption coefficients(OACs), and refractive index changes(RICs) by using the compact density matrix formalism. Simultaneously, we obtain the reliable energy eigenvalues and their corresponding eigenfunctions via the finite difference method. According to the obtained results, it is found that: (1)the correct inclusion of PDEM is the cause of a noticeable difference in nonlinear optical properties with respect to the use of CEM. (2)the applied magnetic field bear substantial technological importance in the process of nonlinear optical properties modulation.

  • HMD-based cover test system for the diagnosis of ocular misalignment

    摘要: The diagnosis of ocular misalignment is difficult and needs examination by ophthalmologists and orthoptists. However, there are not enough qualified personnel to perform such diagnoses. The eye position check is in part systematized. With this check system, we can detect not only the symptoms but also the angle and the extent of strabismus. However, the types of strabismus that can be detected with this technique are limited to exotropia. The purpose of this study is to develop a simplified check system to screen at least the presence of strabismus apart from the type of strabismus or amount of ocular deviation. First, we digitalized the check process. Specifically, we digitized the elemental technology, i.e., the cover–uncover function, required for automation of the typical cover test for eye position check. Furthermore, we developed and implemented an abnormality determination process and evaluated the performance of the system through this experiment, the results of which indicated a higher detection capability than the conventional cover test performed by ophthalmologists and orthoptists.

  • Uniform position-sensitivity verification of novel electrochemically-etched panorama mega-size polymer ion image detectors

    摘要: Recent novel applications of mega-size polycarbonate ion image detectors processed in mega-size electrochemical etching chambers have raised concerns on uniform position-sensitivity and consistency in ion energy responses of detectors with different effective areas. In this context, the uniform position-sensitivity, detection efficiency and track diameters of alpha particles over a broad energy range in detectors of different effective areas; i.e. small size (2 × 2 cm2), medium sizes (17 × 17 cm2) and (22.6 × 22.6 cm2), as well as large (33 × 33 cm2) were investigated in order to make them independent of the detector effective area. Alpha particles of 6 different energies from ~0.3 to ~3.0 MeV at a fluence of ~1.0 × 104 alphas·cm?2 were studied applying 50 Hz – HV field conditions. As an example, 36 positions on 6 rows and 6 columns of a 33 × 33 cm2 detector were studied. By having the same efficiency and mean track diameter only at ~0.8 MeV alpha energy in different detector effective areas under the conditions applied, it is concluded that: (1) position-sensitivity, efficiency and alpha energy responses are consistently uniform independent of the detector effective areas for particles with dE/dX)particle ≥ dE/dX)alpha at ~0.8 MeV, but (2) a "voltage compensation factor" (Vc) commensurate with each detector effective area and type of particle should be applied for particles with dE/dX)particle < dE/dX)alpha at ~0.8 MeV for efficient, consistent and uniform ion detection.

    摘要: Optical pulse position modulation-code division multiple access (PPM-CDMA) system with an interference theoretically analyzed. Successive interference cancellation (SIC) scheme has the ability to suppress the overlapping between the users by subtracting the strongest one from the original received signals one by one until all users detected. Different optical codes have been used for the comparison purpose; results show that the system with SIC scheme using modified quadratic congruence codes has better performance than the system using modified prime code as signature codes. In addition, the system with SIC scheme significantly superior to the one without SIC scheme.

  • Robust Landmark Detection and Position Measurement Based on Monocular Vision for Autonomous Aerial Refueling of UAVs

    摘要: In this paper, a position measurement system, including drogue's landmark detection and position computation for autonomous aerial refueling of unmanned aerial vehicles, is proposed. A multitask parallel deep convolution neural network (MPDCNN) is designed to detect the landmarks of the drogue target. In MPDCNN, two parallel convolution networks are used, and a fusion mechanism is proposed to accomplish the effective fusion of the drogue's two salient parts' landmark detection. Considering the drogue target's geometric constraints, a position measurement method based on monocular vision is proposed. An effective fusion strategy, which fuses the measurement results of drogue's different parts, is proposed to achieve robust position measurement. The error of landmark detection with the proposed method is 3.9%, and it is obviously lower than the errors of other methods. Experimental results on the two KUKA robots platform verify the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed position measurement system for aerial refueling.

  • A hypothesis testing approach for communication over entanglement assisted compound quantum channel

    摘要: We study the problem of communication over a compound quantum channel in the presence of entanglement. Classically such a channel is modeled as a collection of conditional probability distributions wherein neither the sender nor the receiver is aware of the channel being used for transmission, except for the fact that it belongs to this collection. We provide near optimal achievability and converse bounds for this problem in the one-shot quantum setting in terms of the quantum hypothesis testing divergence. We also consider the case of informed sender, showing a one-shot achievability result that converges appropriately in the asymptotic and i.i.d. setting. Our achievability proof is similar in spirit to its classical counterpart. To arrive at our result, we use the technique of position-based decoding along with a new approach for constructing a union of two projectors, which might be of independent interest. We give another application of the union of projectors to the problem of testing composite quantum hypotheses.

  • Optical Wireless Communication Based Indoor Positioning Algorithms: Performance Optimisation and Mathematical Modelling

    摘要: In this paper, the performance of the optimal beam radius indoor positioning (OBRIP) and two-receiver indoor positioning (TRIP) algorithms are analysed by varying system parameters in the presence of an indoor optical wireless channel modelled in line of sight configuration. From all the conducted simulations, the minimum average error value obtained for TRIP is 0.61 m against 0.81 m obtained for OBRIP for room dimensions of 10 m × 10 m × 3 m. In addition, for each simulated condition, TRIP, which uses two receivers, outperforms OBRIP and reduces position estimation error up to 30%. To get a better understanding of error in position estimation for different combinations of beam radius and separation between light emitting diodes, the 90th percentile error is determined using a cumulative distribution frequency (CDF) plot, which gives an error value of 0.94 m for TRIP as compared to 1.20 m obtained for OBRIP. Both algorithms also prove to be robust towards change in receiver tilting angle, thus providing flexibility in the selection of the parameters to adapt to any indoor environment. In addition, in this paper, a mathematical model based on the concept of raw moments is used to confirm the findings of the simulation results for the proposed algorithms. Using this mathematical model, closed-form expressions are derived for standard deviation of uniformly distributed points in an optical wireless communication based indoor positioning system with circular and rectangular beam shapes.
