  • Tilted Photovoltaic Energy Outputs in Outdoor Environments

    摘要: The direction and environment of photovoltaics (PVs) may influence their energy output. The practical PV performance under various conditions should be estimated, particularly during initial design stages when PV model types are unknown. Previous studies have focused on a limited number of PV projects, which required the details of many PV models; furthermore, the models can be case sensitive. According to the 18 projects conducted in 7 locations (latitude 29.5–51.25N) around the world, we developed polynomials for the crystalline silicon PV energy output for different accessible input variables. A regression tree effectively evaluated the correlations of the outcomes with the input variables; those of high importance were identified. The coefficient of determination, indicating the percentage of datasets being predictable by the input, was higher than 0.65 for 14 of the 18 projects when the polynomial was developed using the accessible variables such as global horizontal solar radiation. However, individual equations should be derived for horizontal cases, indicating that a universal polynomial for crystalline silicon PVs with a tilt angle in the range 0°–66° can be difficult to develop. The proposed model will contribute to evaluating the performance of PVs with low and medium tilt angles for places of similar climates.

  • Analysis of the Day-ahead Deviation Plan and Research on the Real-time Scheduling of Photovoltaic Greenhouses Based on Exergy Theory

    摘要: For the correction problem of day-ahead plan deviation caused by energy prediction deviation in day-ahead scheduling stage of photovoltaic greenhouses, an exergy analysis method is used to propose the deviation model of heat required for photovoltaic greenhouses. Based on the deviation model, a real-time optimization scheduling model is established. The deviation model not only considers the non-negligible exergy loss during heating process of pipes, but also considers the di?erence between heat and thermal exergy a?ected by the actual indoor temperature. The goal of the real-time scheduling model is to minimize the absolute value of the di?erence between the energy supply and demand prediction deviation to be corrected and the adjustment of multi-form energy storage and electric loads, so that develop the real-time adjustment plan of energy storage and electric loads. The analysis results of the actual photovoltaic greenhouse show that of the heat required by a greenhouse based on the exergy theory calculation, the exergy loss of the heating process accounts for about 10%–20% of the total thermal exergy required and it cannot be ignored, so the calculation results can re?ect the actual heat required more accurately and the greenhouse temperature is more suitable for plant growth. Moreover, the proposed real-time scheduling model can correct the deviation of the day-ahead plan and improve local consumption. The promotion ratio can reach 7%. Finally, the farmers’ electricity purchases cost is reduced. Thereby the e?ectiveness of the proposed heat deviation model and real-time scheduling model is veri?ed.

    摘要: The effective use of data within intensive care units (ICUs) has great potential to create new cloud-based health analytics solutions for disease prevention or earlier condition onset detection. The Artemis project aims to achieve the above goals in the area of neonatal ICUs (NICU). In this paper, we proposed an analytical model for the Artemis cloud project which will be deployed at McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton. We collect not only physiological data but also the infusion pumps data that are attached to NICU beds. Using the proposed analytical model, we predict the amount of storage, memory, and computation power required for the system. Capacity planning and tradeoff analysis would be more accurate and systematic by applying the proposed analytical model in this paper. Numerical results are obtained using real inputs acquired from McMaster Children’s Hospital and a pilot deployment of the system at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto.

    摘要: In this paper, we propose a real-time Internet of Vehicles system based on an automotive headlight. The modulation format is OFDM-64QAM and we successfully reach the data rate of 375Mb/s by utilizing a FPGA as the central host. The transmission distance is 2.5m. We also investigated the performance of the system by calculating BER versus bias current, transmission distance and attenuation at both transmitter and receiver. As far as we know, this is the highest data rate of a real-time visible light communication system based on automotive headlight which can be used in the Internet of Vehicles (IoV).

  • Modeling the influence of the optical fiber strain on the readiness performance of fiber-optic communication lines

    摘要: A mathematical model for determining the readiness performance of the fiber-optic communication lines depending on the degree of optical fiber strain with different methods of influence. The model is based on the theory of Markov chains. The adequacy of the model is achieved by the false positive and false negative errors. The application of the developed model enables us to determine the allowable maintenance interval for the fiber-optic communication lines.

    摘要: This paper implies and demonstrates a unique Smart Autonomous power and switch controlled Led Street Lighting System for Bangladesh. As we live in the age of globalization where streetlights are very much important for a city infrastructure in the crowded regions, the autonomous power and switching of these streetlights can have a huge impact in our electricity usage and minimize the wastage of electricity. Usually street light is needed at the time of sunset until the sunrise, but during peak hours (time 17:00 pm to 20:00 pm), the electricity demand is higher than electricity supply from the National Grid for many under developing countries including Bangladesh as this is the high time of excessive usage of Home Loads like Television, Air-Cooler etc. Proposed herein is a design and practically implementation of a smart autonomous power and switch controlled street light system by using stored solar energy during peak hours and light dependent resistor based energy efficient automatic Streetlight switching rather than the conventional switching operations. Besides temperature sensor and Real time clock (RTC) are being attached to display the updated time and temperature to the nearby passengers of the vehicles and walkers of the street sides. Thus, proper implementation of the proposed system will be able to be a medium for an energy efficient circuit, national grid’s power scarcity minimizer and free cost of energy and high reliability.

  • Toroidally focused sensor array for real-time laser-ultrasonic imaging: the first experimental study

    摘要: In this paper we report on the first toroidally focused 2D real-time laser-ultrasonic imaging system and a modified filtered back projection algorithm that can be used in the region near the waist of the astigmatic laser-ultrasonic probe beam. The system is capable of visualizing an acupuncture needle 0.2 mm in diameter located at ~4 cm depth in water. The lateral spatial resolution is better than ~0.32 mm and axial spatial resolution is ~30 μm. The achieved frame rate is up to 30 Hz. The depth dependency of the sensitivity region width and lateral resolution are experimentally measured and discussed. The array is intended to be used as a part of combined real-time photoacoustic and laser-ultrasonic imaging system.

  • Realization of real‐time OFDM‐based visible light communication using an InGaN/GaN multiquantum‐wells LED

    摘要: This paper presents a real-time OFDM-based visible light communication (VLC) system utilizing a single InGaN/GaN multiquantum-wells (MQWs) light emitting diode (LED). An MQWs LED with 3 dB electrical bandwidth of 23.8 MHz is developed as the transmitting device. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is employed to ensure the LED bandwidth is fully used, and the system is designed and implemented on a field-programmable gate array platform to realize real-time communication. The real-time OFDM-VLC system achieves a rate of 96 Mbit/s at the distance of 2 m, and the bit error ratio (BER) is 2.25 × 10?3, which is below the forward error correction (FEC) limit.

    摘要: This paper presents an approach to forecast photovoltaic (PV) power generation by using Kalman filter and Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA). This method is suitable for real time forecast with high resolution time step and we use it to forecast for five-minute time step in this paper. However, Kalman filter requires real time measurement data to adjust forecast value, hence we propose an estimator model to help this approach to perform reliable forecast even when real time measurement data is unavailable. The dataset for building estimator model is set of historical data of power generation from neighbor PV rooftops and distance between PV rooftops. We use ARIMA model to estimate transition matrix for running Kalman filter. The performance of the test is measured by the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Skill Score (SS). The obtained result shows that ARIMA model has lower accuracy compared to Kalman filter and estimator model. The real time data estimation from the estimator model can be used in Kalman filter to forecast PV power generation with good accuracy.

  • IoT based photovoltaic monitoring system application

    摘要: Solar photovoltaic (PV) system has become the greatest attraction in the clean, renewable electricity generation. However, the performance is varying due to various parameters and environmental conditions. Hence, a remote and real-time monitoring system is needed to assess its performance. Implementation of the Internet of Things (IoT) in the monitoring of the solar PV system was proposed and its performance was studied. The system consists of data acquisition, data gateway, and smartphone application display. The data acquisition was successfully collect the data with 98.49% accuracy and was uploaded to the data gateway. The data gateway was able to send the graphical representation of the data to the smartphone application with a mean transmission time of 52.34 seconds. The results demonstrate that the proposed monitoring system can be a promising solution for intelligent remote and real-time monitoring of a solar PV system.
