    摘要: In this paper hardware implementation of selected contextual based image pre-processing modules for a 3840×2160@60fps video stream in a Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC is discussed. The following operations are considered: simple averaging (box filter), Gaussian filter, edge detection using the Sobel and Canny methods, median filter and morphological erosion and dilation operations. The scheme for implementing contextual based operations for a video stream in the format of 2 and 4 pixels per clock and challenges related to the pipelined implementation of processing such data are described. Also the use of logic resources and energy efficiency of modules described in the Verilog hardware description language and using the High Level Synthesis tools (Vivado HLS, SDSoC and xfOpenCV library) are compared. All designed modules support real-time processing of a 4K@60fps video stream.

  • Multiview Layer Fusion Model for Action Recognition Using RGBD Images

    摘要: Vision-based action recognition encounters different challenges in practice, including recognition of the subject from any viewpoint, processing of data in real time, and offering privacy in a real-world setting. Even recognizing profile-based human actions, a subset of vision-based action recognition, is a considerable challenge in computer vision which forms the basis for an understanding of complex actions, activities, and behaviors, especially in healthcare applications and video surveillance systems. Accordingly, we introduce a novel method to construct a layer feature model for a profile-based solution that allows the fusion of features for multiview depth images. This model enables recognition from several viewpoints with low complexity at a real-time running speed of 63 fps for four profile-based actions: standing/walking, sitting, stooping, and lying. The experiment using the Northwestern-UCLA 3D dataset resulted in an average precision of 86.40%. With the i3DPost dataset, the experiment achieved an average precision of 93.00%. With the PSU multiview profile-based action dataset, a new dataset for multiple viewpoints which provides profile-based action RGBD images built by our group, we achieved an average precision of 99.31%.

  • Real-Time Demonstration of Optimized Spectrum Usage with LSA Carrier Aggregation

    摘要: Mobile broadband networks will face a tremendous growth in data traffic demand over the next 20 years. A key requirement for the evolution of radio access networks is the increase in the amount of spectrum and optimized spectrum usage, in order to meet future service demands. More efficient spectrum use will come with evolving technology features and novel spectrum sharing models. Candidates for technology improvements are higher order and massive MIMO systems, cooperative base stations and CoMP techniques, highly optimized resource allocation algorithms, network densification with inter-cell interference management and highly flexible carrier aggregation techniques to extend spectrum. In this paper, we will highlight carrier aggregation combined with flexible spectrum assignment and use of spectrum databases following novel licensing schemes. We give an overview of LSA activities, present a 3CA demonstration platform enabling the LSA concept and discuss its implementation constraints.

  • THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS: Real-Time Imaging in Brachypodium Roots and Osmotic Stress Analysis

    摘要: To elucidate dynamic developmental processes in plants, live tissues and organs must be visualised frequently and for extended periods. The development of roots is studied at a cellular resolution not only to comprehend the basic processes fundamental to maintenance and pattern formation but also study stress tolerance adaptation in plants. Despite technological advancements, maintaining continuous access to samples and simultaneously preserving their morphological structures and physiological conditions without causing damage presents hindrances in the measurement, visualisation and analyses of growing organs including plant roots. We propose a preliminary system which integrates the optical real-time visualisation through light microscopy with a liquid culture which enables us to image at the tissue and cellular level horizontally growing Brachypodium roots every few minutes and up to 24 h. We describe a simple setup which can be used to track the growth of the root as it grows including the root tip growth and osmotic stress dynamics. We demonstrate the system’s capability to scale down the PEG-mediated osmotic stress analysis and collected data on gene expression under osmotic stress.

  • An Approximate Schur Decomposition-based Spatial Domain Color Image Watermarking Method

    摘要: In this paper, an approximate Schur decomposition-based spatial domain blind color image watermarking method is proposed to protect the copyright of color images, which has low computation complexity as same as the watermarking technique in the spatial domain and strong robustness as same as the watermarking technique in the transform domain. Firstly, the approximate maximum eigenvalue of Schur decomposition is calculated in the spatial domain by the proposed method. Secondly, the approximate maximum eigenvalue is used to embed and extract the color watermark image in the spatial domain without of the true Schur decomposition. Moreover, the procedures of the proposed watermarking method are given in details. The proposed technique is performed on the spatial domain based on the approximate Schur decomposition and belongs to blind watermarking technique. Experimental results on two publicly available image databases (CVG-UGR and USC-SIPI) have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method in terms of invisibility, robustness, and the real-time feature.

  • Analysis of the Subdivision Errors of Photoelectric Angle Encoders and Improvement of the Tracking Precision of a Telescope Control System

    摘要: Photoelectric angle encoders, working as position sensors, have a great influence on the accuracy and stability of telescope control systems (TCS). In order to improve the tracking precision of TCS, a method based on subdivision error compensation for photoelectric angle encoders is proposed. First, a mathematical analysis of six types of subdivision errors (DC error, phase error, amplitude error, harmonic error, noise error, and quantization error) is presented, which is different from the previously used analysis based on the Lissajous figure method. In fact, we believe that a mathematical method is more efficient than the figure method for the expression of subdivision errors. Then, the distribution law and period length of each subdivision error are analyzed. Finally, an error compensation algorithm is presented. In a real TCS, the elevation jittering phenomenon occurs, which indicates that compensating for the amplitude error is necessary. A feed-forward loop is then introduced into the TCS, which is position loop- and velocity loop-closed, leading to a decrease of the tracking error by nearly 54.6%, from 2.31” to 1.05”, with a leading speed of 0.25°/s, and by 40.5%, from 3.01” to 1.79”, with a leading speed of 1°/s. This method can realize real-time compensation and improve the ability of TCS without any change of the hardware. In addition, independently of the environment and the kind of control strategy used, this method can also improve the tracking precision presumably because it compensates the measuring error inside the photoelectric angle encoder.

  • Study on Single Camera Based ANPR System for Improvement of Vehicle Number Plate Recognition on Multi-lane Roads

    摘要: In this paper, we introduce the single camera-based number recognition system used for this system recognizes vehicle number plates on one lane by using a single camera. Intelligent transport system (ITS) has been constructed because there is a limit in solving traffic problems in a physical manner such as construction of roads and subways. The single camera-based number recognition system used for this system recognizes vehicle number plates on one lane by using a single camera. Due to the increased cost of the installation and maintenance thereof, there is a growing need for a multi-lane-based number recognition system. When the single camera-based number recognition system is used for multi-lane recognition, the recognition rate is lowered due to a difference in vehicle image size among lanes and a low-resolution problem. Therefore, in this study, we applied a character extraction algorithm using connected vertical and horizontal edge segments-based labeling to improve multi-lane vehicle number recognition rate and thereby to allow application of the single camera-based system to multi-lane roads.

  • Assessing UV Inactivation of Adenovirus 41 Using Integrated Cell Culture Real-Time qPCR/RT-qPCR

    摘要: Enteric adenoviruses are among most UV-resistant viruses in water. Cytopathic effects (CPE)-based cell culture TCID50 assay as a conventional virus assessment approach has major drawbacks for enteric adenovirus since it is selective on cell lines and takes longer time to show CPE. Integrated cell culture real-time quantitative PCR (ICC-qPCR) and reverse transcriptase (RT)-qPCR were applied in this study, in comparison with TCID50, to assess UV inactivation of adenovirus type 41 (Ad41) in water. Adenovirus type 41 was exposed to UV doses of 40, 80, 160, and 320 mJ/cm2 using a collimated beam apparatus. There was no significant difference of inactivation at conducted UV doses between measurements using TCID50 assay and ICC-RT-qPCR. Both assays fitted the Chick–Watson model at 95% confidence level. The inactivation measured by ICC-qPCR did not fit the Chick–Watson model. In summary, ICC-RT-qPCR is the most appropriate alternate to CPE-based assay for assessing UV inactivation of enteric adenoviruses. Water Environ. Res., 89, 323 (2017).

  • An FPGA-Oriented Algorithm for Real-Time Filtering of Poisson Noise in Video Streams, with Application to X-Ray Fluoroscopy

    摘要: In this paper we propose a new algorithm for real-time ?ltering of video sequences corrupted by Poisson noise. The algorithm provides effective denoising (in some cases overcoming the ?ltering performances of state-of-the-art techniques), is ideally suited for hardware implementation, and can be implemented on a small ?eld-programmable gate array using limited hardware resources. The paper describes the proposed algorithm, using X-ray ?uoroscopy as a case study. We use IIR ?lters for time ?ltering, which largely simpli?es hardware cost with respect to previous FIR ?lter-based implementations. A conditional reset is implemented in the IIR ?lter, to minimize motion blur, with the help of an adaptive thresholding approach. Spatial ?ltering performs a conditional mean to further reduce noise and to remove isolated noisy pixels. IIR ?lter hardware implementation is optimized by using a novel technique, based on Steiglitz–McBride iterative method, to calculate ?xed-point ?lter coef?cients with minimal number of nonzero elements. Implementation results using the smallest StratixIV FPGA show that the system uses only, at most, the 22% of the resources of the device, while performing real-time ?ltering of 1024 × 1024@49fps video stream. For comparison, a previous FIR ?lter-based implementation, on the same FPGA, in the same conditions and constraints (1024 × 1024@49fps), requires the 80% of the logic resources of the FPGA.

    摘要: Plants give off a unique profile of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in response to abiotic and biotic stresses. The ability to discern specific VOC profiles provides for the early detection and subsequent treatment of insect infestation and pathogen infection. This work presents an electronic nose (e-nose) system based on a capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducer (CMUT) with real-time monitoring capability for detecting and discriminating VOCs. Preliminary results show the almost instantaneous detection of the plant volatiles released systemically in response to physical wounding of plant tissue.
