    摘要: A novel tunable band-notch as well as narrow band reconfigurable coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed UWB Dielectric Resonator Antenna (DRA) has been proposed in this paper. The tunable band-notch and narrow band characteristics are achieved by placing split ring resonators (SRR) below the coplanar waveguide gap. A pair of varactor loaded SRR placed in the slots of the feeding CPW line contribute to a band-notch tuning of 1 GHz. The gain of the standalone DRA is 2 - 4 dBi in the operating range from 4 GHz to 11 GHz. The impedance bandwidth of the standalone DRA is from 2.8 GHz to 11 GHz. The narrowband characteristics is achieved by placing switches between signal and ground line of the CPW precisely above the SRRs. This antenna can be used for both interweave and underlay dynamic spectrum access in Cognitive Radio Applications.

    摘要: This paper reports on a new type of substrate-integrated-waveguide (SIW) bandpass filters (BPFs) with multiple levels of transfer function adaptivity. They are based on series-cascaded in-line coaxial resonators and a coaxial-resonator-based transmission-zero (TZ) generation section. The proposed architecture allows the realization of the following reconfigurable characteristics: i) tunable center frequency with either constant absolute bandwidth (BW) or constant fractional bandwidth (FBW), ii) tunable BW, and iii) an intrinsically switched-off response. Alternative realization schemes using parallel and series resonators are discussed with the purpose of improving the stopband performance. For proof-of-concept demonstration purposes an L-band SIW-based BPF prototype was designed, manufactured and measured. It exhibited the following RF performance characteristics. Center frequency tuning between 1.24 and 1.8 GHz (1.5: tuning ratio), BW tuning between 190 and 78 MHz (2.44:1 tuning ratio) and intrinsic switching-off with > 30 dB of isolation in the range between 0.75 and 2.25 GHz.

    摘要: This paper demonstrates the design of a thermally reconfigurable/tunable operating wavelength of the digital electro-optic D-type flip-flop. The design of the D flip-flop is based on the silicon micro-ring resonator as its core component. The optical modulation technique incurred in the micro-ring resonator utilizes the carrier-injection forward-biased PIN ring waveguide. Micro-heaters are applied to the proposed design with controlled heat generation in order to modulate the operational wavelength, thus allowing the proposed design to operate at varying wavelength. This work proceeds with the simulation and time-varying analysis of the proposed design at the data rate of 1Gbps, and the clocking speed of 5Gbps. Two different operating wavelengths of 1550nm and 1552nm are used to show that the proposed design is wavelength reconfigurable via thermal tuning.

    摘要: With the increasing accuracy of fault injections, it has become possible to inject two faults into specific circuit regions precisely at a certain time. Unfortunately, most existing fault attack countermeasures are based on the single fault assumption, and it is, therefore, very difficult to resist double fault attacks. Reconfigurable array architecture (RAA) has the ability to introduce spatial and time randomness by dynamic reconfiguration, which can alleviate the threat of double fault attacks. This paper, for the first time, analyzes the double fault attack issues in the fault injection phase systematically. An evaluation model, named injection effort model (IEM), is proposed to quantify the efforts of a successful fault injection. In IEM, the real injection process is described mathematically using the probability method, so that a theoretical basis can be provided for the corresponding countermeasure design. Based on the concept of spatial and time randomization, three countermeasures are implemented on RAA for the purpose of decreasing the implementation overhead under the premise of ensuring the security. When these countermeasures are adopted, tradeoffs can be made between the double fault resistance and the extra overhead through changing the degree of randomness. Experiments are carried out to analyze the relationship between the resistance and the overhead using Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), Data Encryption Standard (DES), and Camellia. When the overhead constraints in terms of throughput, hardware resources, and energy are 5%, 35%, and 10% respectively, the double fault resistance can increase by two to four orders of magnitude (ranging from 824 to 10 149 for different algorithms).

  • Substrate integrated waveguide cavity backed frequency reconfigurable antenna for cognitive radio applies to internet of things applications

    摘要: In this article, a new multiband frequency reconfigurable substrate integrated waveguide cavity slot antenna was designed using Computer Simulation Technology software tool for addressing the specific design challenges posed by the internet of things (IoT) based cognitive radio networks. Reconfiguration of frequency bands is achieved using PIN diodes. The antenna resonated at 2.624, 2.664, 2.720, 2.752, 4.304, 4.532, 4.556, 5.236, 5.304, 5.368, 5.332, and 5.392 GHz. The resonant frequency capability and radiation performance are demonstrated by both simulations and measurements. The simulated and measured results were in agreement. The higher efficiency, gain and average bandwidth obtained are 90%, 8.2 dBi and 65 MHz, respectively. The compactness, integrity, reliability, and performance at various operating frequencies make the proposed antenna a good candidate for IoT applications.

    摘要: Terahertz (THz) high gain antennas with electronic beam-scanning capability have been long required in various modern applications. In this paper, a novel reconfigurable reflectarray antenna (RRA) at 0.3 THz with 16×16 individually controlled 1-bit phasing elements is proposed. The element consists of a shorted bow-tie microstrip patch and a double-channel heterostructure HEMT in the middle. Electronic 1-bit phase control can be achieved by switching the state of HEMT. The element simulation verifies its wideband and low cross-polarization performance. Design and analysis of a RRA with 16×16 elements and practical biasing circuits are presented. The high gain beam scanning capability of the proposed RRA is validated by theoretical calculations.

  • Recycled polyolefin as dielectric substrate for patch antennas

    摘要: High-performance antennas operating at ultra-high frequency (UHF) are typically designed and fabricated using specialized radio frequency (RF) materials with low loss and consistent properties. This paper proposes and investigates the use of recycled polyolefin (high-density polyethylene and polypropylene) which is not specifically manufactured for RF applications and thus with unknown RF properties, as dielectric substrate for high-performance UHF patch antennas. As a demonstrative application, a polarization-reconfigurable patch antenna with dual feeds is designed and fabricated using adhesive copper foil on recycled polyolefin substrate. Depending on the feed’s magnitude and phase, different types of linear and circular polarizations can be achieved. The point of resonance for both ports is centered at 915 MHz with 10 dB return loss and bandwidth of 28 MHz. Port isolation is as low as ?17 dB with peak linear and circular gain of 7.0 dBi, and 7 dBiC, respectively, observed in all polarizations. The resulting antenna not only performs well, but is also lightweight, low moisture absorbent, mechanically sturdy, inexpensive and ecologically friendly arising from its use of recycled materials.

    摘要: This paper presents a reconfigurable dual-band bandstop filter utilizing miniaturized folded ridged quarter-mode substrate integrated cavity. By loading a quarter-mode substrate integrated cavity with a capacitive ridge structure and folding the dominant field around said structure, significant miniaturization is achieved. Folded ridged quarter-mode substrate integrated cavity is shown to reduce the area of standard quarter-mode substrate integrated cavity by 92%, while also increasing the fundamental mode. A spurious-free reconfigurable dual-band bandstop filter using miniaturized folded ridged quarter-mode technology is designed, fabricated, and measured. In order to generate independent tuning of each stopband, two resonators are each loaded with a tunable the same capacitance, and nonresonating node, producing a frequency agile filtering section. Two filtering sections are then coupled together through an impedance inverter to produce a dual-band, two-pole bandstop filter. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this paper presents the first dual-band bandstop filter using quarter-mode substrate integrated cavity technology in the present literature.

  • Reconfigurable Surfaces Based on Photocontrolled Dynamic Bonds

    摘要: Photocontrolled surfaces have attracted increasing interest because of their potential applications in lithography, photopatterning, biointerfaces, and microfluidics. Light provides high spatiotemporal resolution to control functions of such surfaces without getting into direct contact. However, conventional photocontrolled surfaces can only be switched between two states (on and off). The development of photocontrolled reconfigurable surfaces that can be switched among multiple states is highly desirable because these surfaces can adapt to rapid environmental changes or different applications. Herein, recent developments of photocontrolled reconfigurable surfaces are reviewed. Specially, reconfigurable surfaces based on photocontrolled reversible reactions including thiol-quinone methide, disulfide exchange, thiol-disulfide interconversion, diselenide exchange, and photosubstitution of Ru complexes are highlighted. As a perspective, other photocontrolled dynamic bonds that can be used to construct reconfigurable surfaces are summarized. Remaining challenges in this field are discussed.

  • Origami Metawall: Mechanically Controlled Absorption and Deflection of Light

    摘要: Metamaterials/metasurfaces, which have subwavelength resonating unit cells (i.e., meta-atoms), can enable unprecedented control over the flow of light. Despite their significant progress, achieving dynamical control of both energy and momentum of light remains a challenge. Here, a mechanically tunable metawall capable of either absorbing light energy or modulating light momentum, by incorporating the magnetic meta-atoms into a 3D printed origami grating, is theoretically designed and experimentally realized. Through mechanical stretching or compressing of the Miura-ori pattern, the function of metawall can transit from an absorber, a mirror, to a negative reflector. Particularly, the continuously geometric deformation of the Miura-ori lattice is a promising approach to compensate the angular dispersion in gradient metasurfaces. Considering the prominent mechanical properties and strong deformation abilities of origami structures, the findings may open an alternative avenue toward lightweight and deployable metadevices with diversified and continuously alterable electromagnetic properties.
