Photonic Crystal Fibres PCF for Different Sensors in Review
摘要: In this work, we present the update results for using the PCF as a sensors application, where we have chosen a modern collection of manuscripts previously published in scientific journals in the field of optical, biological and chemical sensors. So we compared their presented results, in order to reach the best results previously published in the use PCF for optical, biological and chemical sensors.

摘要: Electromagnetic propagation in chiral materials under first-order dispersion is examined for negative indices under non-conductive losses. Three loss scenarios are considered, viz., dielectric (complex permittivity) losses; magnetic (complex permeability) losses; and a combination of both types of losses to investigate the overall impact of the losses on the emergence of negative index bands.

S fiber taper-based fiber loop ring-down refractometer
摘要: A fiber-optic refractive index (RI) sensor based on fiber loop ring-down (FLRD) technique with an S fiber taper (SFT) structure is proposed and experimentally investigated. The SFT is served as an in-line Mach–Zehnder interferometer and inserted into a compensated fiber loop for RI measurement. By optimizing the parameters of the fiber loop, the quality of the ring-down signals is improved effectively. The surrounding refractive index can be conveniently measured by interrogating the ring-down time of the fiber loop. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed sensor has a high sensitivity of ?3128.954 μs/RIU in the measurement range of 1.3330–1.3682. The proposed RI sensor combines the specialties of SFT interferometer and FLRD technology, which could be a good candidate in applications.

Narrowband and Full-Angle Refractive Index Sensor Based on a Planar Multilayer Structure
摘要: This work reports a design of a narrowband and full-angle refractive index sensor based on Tamm plasmon resonance (TPR) by introducing a distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) integrated with a non-adjacent metal layer. The analyte flows into the cavity comprising of the DBR and the non-adjacent metal layer. Simulated results show that the incident light can be strongly confined in the specially designed cavity. The sharp reflection dip within the forbidden band of the isolated DBR indicates the excitation of Tamm mode, and the spectral characteristics were monitored upon exposure to various analytes with different refractive indices. The optimally designed system shows the sensitivity (S) and full width at half-maximum (FWHM) can be up to 860 nm/RIU (refractive index unit) and ~2.2 nm with a figure of merit (FOM) of 391. Furthermore, the highly-sensitive characteristic can be sustained in a wide angle range of 0° to almost 90° under both TM- and TE-polarized lights.

Photo-thermal Dual Curing of Polysilane/diarylfluorene Blends -Fabrication of Films with High and Tunable Refractive Indices-
摘要: We have developed the crosslinked films of diphenyl- or dinaphthylfluorene having acryl units with polymethylphenylsilane in the presence of a photoradical initiator upon irradiation at 405 nm with thermal treatments at around 100 oC. The photopolymerization of the acrylates effectively enhanced by the photo-thermal dual curing technique. Polysilane moieties were incorporated into the film by the termination reaction between the acrylate radicals and Si radicals generated by the slight photo-decomposition of the Si-Si bonds. We have successfully fabricated the films with high refractive indices (nD: 1.62) and the refractive index values were tunable by irradiation at 254 nm by the effective decomposition of the Si-Si bonds of the polysilanes. The reaction mechanism is discussed based on real-time FT-IR measurements. The prepared films have a high thermal stability (temperature for 5% weight loss, Td5: 300 oC).

Diffraction Focal Position and Vector Diffraction Theory for Micro Holographic Storage Systems
摘要: In this study, we proposed a method to determine the optimal focal position for micro-holographic storage systems, using vector diffraction theory; the theory provides exact solutions when the numerical aperture (NA) exceeds 0.6. The best diffraction focus was determined by the position and wavelength corresponding to minimal spherical aberration. The calculated refractive index modulation, polarization illumination, and boundary conditions at the interface of different media were analyzed. From the results of our analysis, we could confirm the size of micrograting as a function of NA and wavelength, based on vector diffraction theory, compared with scalar diffraction theory which defines the micrograting by . To demonstrate our analysis, we adapted an optical alignment method using a Twyman-Green interferometer, and could obtain good agreement between analysis and experimental results.

High Sensitivity Photonic Crystal Fiber Refractive Index Sensor with Gold Coated Externally Based on Surface Plasmon Resonance
摘要: In this paper we propose a gold-plated photonic crystal fiber (PCF) refractive index sensor based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR), in which gold is coated on the external surface of PCF for easy fabrication and practical detection. The finite element method (FEM) is used for the performance analysis, and the numerical results show that the thickness of the gold film, the refractive index of the analyte, the radius of the air hole in the first layer, the second layer, and the central air hole can affect the sensing properties of the sensor. By optimizing the sensor structure, the maximum wavelength sensitivity can reach 11000 nm/RIU and the maximum amplitude sensitivity can reach 641 RIU?1. Due to its high sensitivity, the proposed sensor can be used for practical biological and chemical sensing.

Optical Characteristics of Zinc Oxide Films on Glass Substrates
摘要: An algorithm is developed for solving the inverse problem of multiangular spectrophotometry of a layer on a plane-parallel substrate of finite thickness using s- and p-polarized waves. It allows the dispersive properties of the layer and substrate to be studied both far from and in the vicinity of the resonant wavelengths. The dispersive properties of layers of pure and Al-doped ZnO on glass substrates are investigated using it. It is shown that doping shifts the absorption band maximum to shorter wavelength and decreases the refractive index of the material. The applicability limits of known approximate expressions for determining the spectral dependence of the absorption coefficient of a layer from spectrophotometric data are estimated.

High-resolution refractometry using phase shifting interferometry based on spatial light modulator and vortex probe
摘要: We present a spatial light modulator (SLM) based phase shifting interferometry (PSI) using an optical vortex for sensing the refractive index (RI) of liquids. The vortex phase rotates according to the phase shift introduced by a medium, and its rotation angle quantifies the index of refraction of the sample. An interferometer modified with the SLM is designed to obtain reliable results. We experimentally demonstrate the stability of the SLM-based system by measuring interference and phase fluctuation. Experimental results show that the proposed system keeps the fluctuation small. The vortex probe PSI combined with the SLM-based interferometer enables not only detecting extremely small changes in concentration but also precisely measuring the RI with high resolution of ~10?? refractive index unit.
