    摘要: This paper presents a multi-antenna approach of the phase-based SARFID method to locate static tags by employing two UHF-RFID reader antennas installed on an Unmanned Grounded Vehicle (UGV). The UGV is remote-controlled and equipped with Laser Range Finder sensors to move inside an indoor environment, and the knowledge of its trajectory is achieved through a Simultaneous Localization And Mapping procedure. By processing the phase data collected from each reader antenna, different matching functions can be obtained and combined to improve the estimation of the bi-dimensional tag position. Differently from other localization techniques, neither reference tags (anchor tags), nor large phased array antennas are required.

    摘要: This paper proposes a method to robustly estimate product amount on store shelves from a surveillance camera for improving on-shelf availability. We focus on changes of products on the shelves such as “product taken (decrease)” and “product replenished/returned (increase)”, and compute product amount by accurately accumulating them. The proposed method first detects change regions of products on the shelves in an image using background subtraction followed by moving object removal. The detected change regions are then classified into several classes representing the actual changes on the shelves such as “product taken” by using convolutional neural networks. Finally, the changes of products on the shelves are accumulated using classification results, and product amount on the shelves visible in the image is computed as on-shelf availability. Experimental results using two videos captured in a real store show that our method achieves success rate of 89.6% for on-shelf availability when an error margin is within one product. With high accuracy, store clerks can keep high on-shelf availability, enabling the improvement of business profit in retail stores.

  • E <sup>2</sup> R-F <sup>2</sup> N: Energy-efficient retailing using a femtolet-based fog network

    摘要: Energy-efficient smart retail system design is a challenging research area. In this paper, we propose an automated retail system using a femtolet-based fog network. A femtolet is an indoor base station providing computation and storage. Femtolets in our system work as indoor base stations and maintain databases of the products located in their respective coverage areas. The femtolets switch to active or idle mode according to the user's presence in its coverage. A smart trolley is proposed for our retailing system, which guides the user to the particular product type selected by the user. The user, after entering the shopping mall, carries the smart trolley. The customer selects and purchases products using this trolley. On the basis of product purchasing, the respective databases maintained inside the femtolets are updated. An Android application for the proposed retailing is developed. We compare the power consumption and delay of the proposed retail system with the existing retail system. Simulation analyses illustrate that the proposed approach reduces power by approximately 89% and 94%, respectively, in comparison to the local cloud server–based and remote cloud server–based retail systems. Thus, we refer to the proposed system as a green retail system. The performance of the proposed system through experimental analysis is also evaluated.
