摘要: Visible Light Communication (VLC) which has a mass of applications is getting much attention in both academic field and industry. Specifically, light-to-camera (LTC) communications in which information is transmitted to user through visible light signals; whereas, rolling-shutter camera-based receivers are utilized to capture and decode transmitted signals. In this paper, we present a demonstration of LTC communications system which includes a pair of transmitter and receiver. We have used an Arduino Genuino board to implement VLC transmitters which can transmit the identification (ID) messages through light-emitting diodes (LEDs)-based front-ends. At the receiver, we have developed an Android application which utilizes the CMOS image sensor (CIS) of the smartphone camera to receive the light signals. Besides, some practical problems of our LTC prototype and their solutions are also introduced in this paper.

摘要: In this paper, we propose a selective visible light communication method using a single light source and multiple video cameras by using their differences in reception sensitivity between carrier waves composed of OFDM signals. In our evaluation experiments, the transmitted signals were composed of 50th, 75th, 78th, and 80th order carrier waves encoding symbols modulated by 4, 8, and 16 PSK. The exposure time ratio for each camera was set to different values so that symbols encoded in one of the carrier waves could be decoded successfully, but erroneously in the other waves. The selectivity of individual carrier waves as theoretically derived was confirmed through the experimental results.

摘要: In this paper we propose a novel region of interest (ROI) detection based digital signal processing scheme for optical camera communications (OCC): it provides significant improvement in recovering the source shape induced signal deformations in a rolling shutter optical camera communication (RS-OCC) system over a link of 100 cm. We propose also a novel approach to address the packet losses due to the RS-OCC bursty channel, which relies on repeated packet transmission. We show simulation results for two different packet repetition schemes and compared them with the link with no repetition in RS-OCC.

IoTorch: Reliable LED-to-Camera Communication against Inter-Frame Gaps and Frame Drops
摘要: LED-to-camera communication for smartphones promises to enable low-cost, small-size, and intuitive data access to Internet-of-things (IoT) devices. However, for fast and reliable communication under the rolling shutter effect, the packet losses caused by inter-frame gaps and frame drops must be dealt with. In this paper, we introduce LED-to-camera communication between a commercial smartphone and an IoT device with LED ?ashlight, where the user can intuitively acquire the desired data transmitted from the IoT device to the smartphone. Speci?cally, we present IoTorch, a fast and reliable LED-to-camera communication that ef?ciently prevents the packet losses. IoTorch consists of two core mechanisms: 1) a minimum-repetition one-way reliable transmission focusing on the periodicity of inter-frame gaps and 2) an acknowledgement mechanism to overcome frame drops by using a smartphone’s built-in ?ash focusing on its delay characteristics. Additionally, we propose an optimization method to increase the throughput up to 2.92 kbps (i.e., 2.43 times faster than that of the state-of-the-art method that overcomes the inter-frame gaps). Furthermore, we realize a remote wake-up function by using the smartphone’s ?ash as the data transmission trigger. To demonstrate the bene?t of IoTorch, we present a sensor data viewer using Arduino and a smartphone console system on TelosB.

摘要: This paper describes a high-speed optical camera communication (OCC) technique using an LED and a rolling-shutter camera. In the proposed technique, the symbols being transmitted are encoded as time delays of optimally modulated signals derived theoretically. A receiver decodes the symbols by using intensities obtained from four consecutive line sensors of a camera. Experiments using a camera having performance similar to that of a general-purpose camera show that the proposed technique can achieve 0.833–1.17 bits per line sensing and that symbol transmission is possible with a longer exposure time setting; this is difficult to achieve using existing on–off keying OCC techniques.

A Novel Column Matrix Selection Scheme for VLC System with Mobile Phone Camera
摘要: In this paper, a novel column matrix selection scheme based on energy diffusion (ED) of LED is proposed and experimentally demonstrated for visible light communication using mobile phone camera. The column matrix selection scheme based on ED of LED can avoid the blooming effect and improve the contrast ratio between bright and black stripes. In addition, for the proposed scheme, the performances under different distances and illuminances are evaluated. Experiment results demonstrate that, under the illuminance of 700 lux, the BER can be improved from 2.5 x 10-4 to 8.82 x 10-6 at 30 cm distance using the column matrix selection scheme based on ED of LED, compared to the conventional scheme.

摘要: This paper presents a visible light communication (VLC) based vehicle to vehicle (V2V) positioning system using CMOS sensor camera. In this system, a camera is attached on the estimating vehicle to capture the image of two LED tail lamps of the target vehicle. The position of the target vehicle relative to the estimating vehicle is obtained through geometric relationship between the LEDs in the real word and the captured image. In existing systems, the rolling shutter mechanism of CMOS sensor when combining with the movement of vehicles would create image artifacts which brings about positioning errors. In this paper, a compensation method is proposed to eliminate the effect of these rolling shutter artifacts to achieve a high positioning accuracy even when vehicles are moving at high speeds.

摘要: Traditional mobile phone camera based visible light communication (VLC) mainly uses line-of-sight (LOS) link, whose performance will be seriously affected by the blooming effect of complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) camera. In this paper, we introduce a mobile phone camera based VLC using non-line-of-sight (NLOS) link. By using our proposed moving exponent average (MEA) algorithm, the VLC system using NLOS link can achieve a data of 5 Kbps at a given transmission distance of 100 cm.
