GaSe saturable absorber for mode-locked Er-doped fiber laser
摘要: A GaSe-PVA based saturable absorber (SA) is prepared by liquid-phase stripping method. The linear and nonlinear transmission spectrum, AFM, SEM and Raman spectrum are used to characterize the SA, the modulation depth of 6.4% and the saturation intensity of 72 MW/cm2 indicated that the GaSe nanosheets can be employed as SA for mode-locked (ML) operation in Er-doped fiber laser (EDFL). The passively mode-locked operation with the output power of 29.1 mW, pulse width of 4.3 ps and repetition rate of 8.849 MHz can be obtained by GaSe-PVA based SA.

Ultrafast soliton and stretched-pulse switchable mode-locked fiber laser with hybrid structure of multimode fiber based saturable absorber
摘要: We demonstrate an all-fiber mode locked laser based on hybrid structure of multimode fiber saturable absorber (SA) that can realize both conventional soliton and stretched-pulse states. Stable 16.44 MHz conventional soliton pulses are achieved by injecting 80 mW threshold pump power. By increasing the incident pump power to 420 mW, the laser evolves from soliton operation into stretched-pulse mode locking state. 310 fs stretched-pulse are obtained with the same repetition rate as the soliton pulses. The center wavelength and its 3 dB spectrum bandwidth are 1603 nm and 14.2 nm, respectively. For the first time, we experimentally confirm transition between conventional soliton and stretched-pulse in 1.5 μm mode-locked fiber laser by introducing multimode optical fiber SA. Moreover, the maximum single pulse energy of nearly 1 nJ is achieved. Such all-fiber mode-locked lasers based on hybrid structure of multimode fiber are attractive for practical applications without damage and the limitation of life time.

Wavelength-tunable single-frequency ytterbium-doped fiber laser based on a double-circulator interferometer
摘要: We reported a novel type of wavelength-tunable single-frequency ytterbium-doped fiber laser based on a double-circulator compound cavity and a section of unpumped ytterbium-doped fiber. The multi-longitudinal-mode oscillations are suppressed by the double-circulator structure and the single frequency operation is obtained finally by the standing wave grating in the unpumped ytterbium-doped fiber. The central wavelength of the laser beam is selected by a tunable filter ranging from 1040 nm to 1080 nm. The results show that the side mode suppression ratio in this range is greater than 47 dB and the maximum value is 58 dB at 1070.06 nm. The observed maximum wavelength fluctuation and power variation at 1060 nm are 0.012 nm and 0.22 dB during 1 h, respectively. The mean value of the linewidth in this range is 2.82 kHz and the minimum value of the linewidth at 1060 nm is 2.38 kHz. The relaxation oscillation frequency is right on 94 kHz.

Tunable passively Q-switched ytterbium-doped fiber laser using MoWS2/rGO nanocomposite saturable absorber
摘要: We demonstrated a tunable Q-switched ytterbium-doped fiber laser (YDFL) using MoWS2/rGO nanocomposite as passive saturable absorber. Further, the Mo1?xWxS2/rGO nanosheets, with x proportion of 0.2, are synthesized using hydrothermal exfoliation technique. The proposed nanocomposite-PVA based thin film is fabricated by mixing the MoWS2/rGO nanosheets with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). The fabricated thin film is sandwiched between two fiber ferrules to realize the proposed saturable absorber (SA). Further, the proposed MoWS2/rGO-PVA based thin film SA exhibits a fast relaxation time and a high damage threshold which are suitable to realize a Q-switched pulsed laser with a tunable wavelength range of 10 nm that extends from 1028 nm to 1038 nm. For the highest pump power of 267.4 mW, the generated Q-switched pulses exhibit a narrow pulse width of 1.22 μs, the pulse repetition rate of 90.4 kHz, the highest pulse energy of 2.13 nJ and its corresponding average power of 0.193 mW. To the best of author’s knowledge, this is the first realization of a tunable Q-switching fiber laser in a 1 μm wavelength using MoWS2/rGO nanocomposite saturable absorber.

High stable polarization-insensitive Er-doped Q-switched fiber laser with iron oxide nanoparticles as saturable absorber
摘要: All fiber Q-switched laser with its advantages of high energy, compact structure and high stability boosted the growing demand in many applications. We synthesized the regular iron oxide nanoparticles (IONP) in size of 12–15 nm via the chemical co-precipitation method. Using the IONP-PVA film as SA, high stable polarization-insensitive Er-doped Q-switched fiber laser was demonstrated. The prepared IONP SA exhibits saturation intensity of 13.44 MW/cm2. The shortest pulse duration was achieved to be 896 ns and the single pulse energy was up to 100 nJ with the maximum pump power of 500 mW. In particular, the polarization controller is unnecessary in our experiments, so the ring cavity can be compacted into a smaller size with 80 dB signal-to-noise ratio for the output pulse sequence. Such a compact, low cost and high stability Q-switched laser maybe expected to have the more extensive application prospect.

Pure gold saturable absorber for generating Q-switching pulses at 2?μm in Thulium-doped fiber laser cavity
摘要: We experimentally demonstrate Q-switched Thulium-doped fiber laser operating at 1949.19 nm using pure gold saturable absorber (Au-SA) as a Q-switcher. The Au-SA was fabricated by depositing gold particles molecules using electron beam evaporation on the surface of a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) film. Subsequently, stable Q-switched pulses were obtained within the 1552 nm pump power range from 343.1 to 467.3 mW, with repetition rate tuned from 11.7 kHz to 21.95 kHz. At 467.3 mW pump power, the TDFL produced pulses train with the pulse width of 2.6 μs and the maximum pulse energy of 89.8 nJ. These results propose that pure gold could be a promising saturable absorber for pulse generation in 2 μm wavelength region.

Mode-locked near-infrared thulium doped fibre laser using evanescent field effect with Bi <sub/>2</sub> O <sub/>3</sub> saturable absorber
摘要: Using the evanescent field effect, a high power passively mode-locked laser with a pulse duration of 1.85 ps and the pulse energy of 13.15 pJ is demonstrated. A Bi2O3 solution is used as a saturable absorber (SA) on a side polished fibre incorporated into a thulium doped fibre laser cavity for operation in the mid-infrared range. The 37.61% SA has a modulation depth and creates a highly stable mode-locked pulse output with a short pulse duration. The calculated net cavity dispersion at central wavelength is ?1.4 ps2, indicating operation is in the anomalous dispersion regime and confirmed by the presence of Kelly’s side-bands observed in the generated optical spectrum. Radio frequency analysis reveals a high signal to noise ratio, making this laser stable for use in telecommunication systems.

Passively Q-switched fiber laser utilizing new hafnium–bismuth–erbium co-doped fiber as saturable absorber
摘要: A stable all-fiber passively Q-switched erbium-doped fiber laser emitting at 1559 nm is proposed and demonstrated using an 8-cm-long hafnium–bismuth–erbium co-doped fiber (HBEDF) as a saturable absorber (SA). The HBEDF is fabricated in-house and has a linear absorption of around 5.2 dB at the laser operating wavelength of 1559 nm. The Q-switching pulses are obtained with an input pump power ranging from 50 to 121 mW. It has the pulse repetition rate of 81.57 kHz, the shortest pulse width of 3.31 ls, output power of 10 mW, pulse energy of 123 nJ and peak power of 37.3 mW at the maximum pump power of 121 mW. The corresponding signal-to-noise ratio of the electrical spectrum is measured to be around 70 dB, which indicates the stability of the laser. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of the deployment of HBEDF SA in generating a robust and steady pulsed laser in 1.5-micron region.

Mode-locking in Er-doped fiber laser with reduced graphene oxide on a side-polished fiber as saturable absorber
摘要: In this work, the generation of highly stable mode-locked pulses from a side-polished fiber (SPF) embedded with graphene oxide (rGO) nanoparticles (NPs) is proposed and demonstrated. The rGO NPs are obtained from a graphene oxide solution prepared using Hummer’s technique, before being reduced by a hydrothermal route. The rGO NPs, suspended in the form of a solution, are then drop-casted onto the SPF. The SPF is fabricated by polishing away the cladding layer of a single-mode fiber section, leaving the core exposed and allowing the evanescent field of the signal propagating through the fiber to interact directly with the NPs. The SPF is integrated into an erbium doped fiber laser (EDFL) cavity, and the strong nonlinear optical response and spectral filtering by the rGO NPs as well as total anomalous dispersion of the laser cavity generates highly stable soliton mode-locked pulses with visible Kelly’s sidebands at 1544.02 nm. The output pulses have a pulse repetition rate of 16.79 MHz and pulse duration of 1.17 ps throughout the mode-locking operation range of 64.44–280.5 mW. The rGO NP coated SPF in this work demonstrates the viability and performance of the SPF for mode-locked pulse generation via evanescent field interactions.

Tungsten disulfide saturable absorber for passively Q-Switched YVO4/Nd:YVO4/YVO4 laser at 1342.2 nm
摘要: By using both tungsten disul?de saturable absorber (WS2-SA) and YVO4/Nd:YVO4(0.3 at.%)/YVO4 crystal, a passively Q-switched laser centered at 1342.2 nm is ?rst reported. Stable Q-switched pulses can be obtained. At the pump power of 12 W, a shortest pulse width of 550 ns and a pulse repetition rate of 97 kHz can be observed by a digital oscilloscope, corresponding to maximum pulse energy of 5.55 μJ and pulse peak power of 10.1 W. The results promote the promising applications of WS2-SA in all-solid-state laser at 1.3 μm.
