  • Photocatalytic Overall Water Splitting on RuO <sub/>2</sub> -loaded Sm <sup>3+</sup> -doped CeO <sub/>2</sub> with Heterogenous Doping Structure

    摘要: Photocatalytic overall water splitting into hydrogen and oxygen on RuO2-loaded Sm3+-doped CeO2 was examined. Pure CeO2 showed a negligible small activity, however Sm3+ doped CeO2 with heterogeneous doping structure synthesized by solid state reaction exhibited an efficient activity. Whereas, Sm3+-doped CeO2 with homogeneous doping structure showed little activity when prepared by co-precipitation method. In this study, relation between photocatalytic activity and surface doping structure was investigated.

  • Significant enhancement of stability for visible photocatalytic overall water splitting by assembling ultra-thin layer of NiO over Zn1-xCdxSX

    摘要: Solar light driven water splitting into hydrogen and oxygen using visible light active photocatalyst has been considered as a clean, green, and renewable route to solar energy conversion and storage. Although Zn1-xCdxS catalyst shows comparatively higher activity for photocatalytic hydrogen generation under visible light irradiation, it suffers serious photocorrosion during the photocatalytic reaction. Deposition of protection layer over Zn1-xCdxS catalyst is believed to be an effective way to inhibit such photocorrosion. Nevertheless, seldom of protection layer exhibits satisfied catalytic properties for hydrogen evolution while presents good protection ability. In this work, a new Zn1-xCdxS photocatalyst has been developed for water splitting under visible light illumination by assembled an ultra-thin NiO layer over Zn0.8Cd0.2S via in-situ photodeposition method. By this strategy, NiO/Zn0.8Cd0.2S showed significant higher activity than Pt/Zn0.8Cd0.2S under same conditions without photocorrosion. The AQE of 0.66% for hydrogen evolution at 430 nm has been achieved and multi-cycle stability has been accomplished up to 12 hours without significant decay. Moreover, the strong electronic coupling between NiO layer and Zn1-xCdxS promoted efficient charge separation and migration.

  • Structure and Photocatalytic Activity of PdCrOx Cocatalyst on SrTiO3 for Overall Water Splitting

    摘要: The mechanism of PdCrOx multi-component cocatalyst formation on SrTiO3 was investigated using transmission electron microscopy, X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The PdCrOx/SrTiO3 samples were synthesized by a photodeposition method under UV light irradiation (λ > 300 nm) for various time periods (0–5 h). The fine structure and valence state of the Pd species of PdCrOx nanoparticles were varied from Pd oxide to a mixture of metallic Pd and oxidized Pd species with an increase in the irradiation time. The overall water-splitting activity of PdCrOx was strongly dependent on the photoirradiation time during deposition. Although longer photoirradiation time during preparation did not influence the H2 evolution activity of PdCrOx/SrTiO3 from aqueous methanol solution, it was effective in suppressing the O2 photoreduction activity, which is one of the backward reactions during overall water splitting.
