摘要: Visible light communication systems often suffer from high frequency attenuation when transmitting out-of-band. This effect has been ameliorated by multi-band modulations such as multi-band carrier-less amplitude and phase (m-CAP), which minimises the effect of decreased high frequency magnitude and maximises signal-to-noise ratio-per-sub-band. On the other hand, in the pass-band region, super-Nyquist CAP (SCAP) can offer throughput improvements with no additional complexity at the receiver, at the cost of bit error rate. We propose, for the first time, a new hybrid SCAP modulation format that takes advantageous of both SCAP (i.e. overlapped sub-bands within the modulation bandwidth) and conventional m-CAP (orthogonally spaced bands outside the modulation bandwidth) while maintaining isolation between noise sources. We show higher baud rates within the passband region whilst supporting out-of-band transmission at lower error vector magnitudes.

摘要: The distributed Brillouin analysis of an 8.8-km-long ?ber with a spatial resolution of 2 cm is presented. All 440 000 potential resolution points are addressed in the measurement. A 7-cm-long hot-spot, located toward the output end of the pump wave, is properly identi?ed in the experiment. The experimental error in the estimate of the local values of the Brillouin frequency shift is ±3.5 MHz. The analysis is based on the simultaneous generation and analysis of Brillouin interaction in more than 2000 correlation peaks, induced by periodic phase modulation of the pump and signal waves. The Brillouin ampli?cations at individual peaks are resolved using radar-like coding of pump wave magnitude by a 10000 bit-long aperiodic sequence, and postdetection compression at the receiver end. Extensive numerical simulations of the Brillouin interactions over kilometers of ?ber with centimeter resolution are reported as well. The results are at the state of the art for high-resolution distributed Brillouin sensors.

摘要: We present a multifunctional scheme to implement reconfigurable temporal Fourier transformation (TFT) and temporal imaging (TI) flexibly. This structure is composed of a time lens followed by a section of dispersive fiber with proper length. More specifically, the output waveforms presenting either the spectrum profile or the scaled waveform profile of the input signal are achieved by simply changing the length of the fiber, which is theoretically analyzed and experimentally verified. This proposal requires neither the use of an input dispersive device preceding the time lens nor a second time lens after the dispersion. Hence, it is a simple and practical alternative to the implementation of both TFT and TI.

摘要: A major drawback of frequency modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radar systems is the permanent leakage from the transmit into the receive path. Besides leakage within the radar device itself, signal reflections from a fixed object in front of the antennas additionally introduce so-called short-range (SR) leakage. It causes a strong degradation of detection sensitivity due to the unavoidable phase noise of the transmit oscillator. In this work, we introduce an artificial on-chip target (OCT) to mitigate the SR leakage. The OCT consists of a delay line whose time delay is significantly smaller than the round-trip delay time of the SR leakage. This is motivated by the fact that in integrated circuits for automotive radar applications operating at 77 GHz delay lines in the range of only a few picoseconds can be realized with a reasonable amount of circuitry. Despite this constraint, we show that the proposed method achieves almost perfect cancelation of the SR leakage. The concept is based on the cross-correlation properties of the residual phase noise in the intermediate frequency (IF) domain. Further, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified in an FMCW radar system simulation. It almost perfectly shows that a gain in sensitivity of approximately 6 dB is achieved, compensating for the performance degradation caused by the SR leakage. The novel leakage cancelation concept is carried out mainly in the digital domain enabling high flexibility and adaptivity.

摘要: One of the main vulnerabilities of GNSS receivers jamming is their exposure to intentional or unintentional signals, which could even cause service unavailability. Several alternatives to counteract these effects were proposed in the literature, being the most promising those based on multiple antenna architectures. This is specially the case for high-grade receivers used in applications requiring reliability and robustness. This article provides an overview of the possible receiver architectures encompassing antenna arrays and the associated signal processing techniques. Emphasis is also put on the most typical implementation issues found when dealing with such technology. A thorough survey is complemented with a set of experiments, including real data processing by a working prototype, which exemplifies the above ideas.

摘要: We demonstrate for the ?rst time an intensity-modulated direct-detection link using four states of polarization. The four data-independent tributaries are each assigned distinct states of polarization to enable the receiver to separate the signals. Polarization rotation due to propagation over optical ?ber is tracked and compensated with simple digital signal processing in Stokes space. Transmission below the forward error correction limit is shown for maximum net bitrates of 100 Gb/s (4 × 27 GBd) and 120 Gb/s (4 × 32 GBd) over 2-km standard single-mode ?ber at a center wavelength of 1550 nm.

摘要: Distance functions are at the core of important data analysis and processing tools, e.g., PCA, classification, vector median filter, and mathematical morphology. Despite its key role, a distance function is often used without careful consideration of its underlying assumptions and mathematical construction. With the objective of identifying a suitable distance function for hyperspectral images so as to maintain the accuracy of hyperspectral image processing results, we compare existing distance functions and define a suitable set of selection criteria. Bearing in mind that the selection of distance functions is highly related to the actual definition of the spectrum, we also classify the existing distance functions based on how they inherently define a spectrum. Theoretical constraints and behavior, as well as numerical tests are proposed for the evaluation of distance functions. With regards to the evaluation criteria, Euclidean distance of cumulative spectrum (ECS) was found to be the most suitable distance function.

摘要: Two multiplexing techniques, digitally frequency multiplexed Nyquist FDM and OFDM, are evaluated in high-data rate coherent optical transmissions. Simulations are carried out to achieve a net data rate of 1 Tb/s through dual-polarization 64QAM and 256QAM at 100 GBd and 75 GBd, respectively. The systems’ performance were evaluated in terms of OSNR versus Tx and Rx laser linewidths, number of subcarriers, and DAC/ADC quantization and bandwidths. Despite similar performance for both techniques, CO-NFDM may allow a lower-cost implementation.
