  • A curvature sensor based on single mode-no-core-twisted single mode fiber structure

    摘要: A high sensitivity curvature sensor based on single mode-no-core-twisted single mode (SNTS) fiber structure is proposed. The configuration is simply formed by twisting a section of single mode fiber (SMF) in the single mode-no-core-single mode structure. Due to the twist is applied, the cladding mode excited in the SMF can be recoupled into the core. The core modes and cladding modes excited in the same fiber form a Mach-Zehnder interference (MZI) which is sensitive to the curvature change. A high sensitivity of 16.28 nm/m?1 with a good linearity has been achieved in the range of 0.96–1.92 m?1, and the repeatability of the curvature sensor is 3.6 × 10?3 nm/m?1. The temperature sensitivity is 0.03 nm/°C within the temperature range from 30 to 100 °C.

  • Broadband generation of the first-order OAM modes in two-mode fiber by offset splicing and fiber rotating technology

    摘要: We demonstrate a simple, compact, and cost-effective all-fiber structure to generate the first-order orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes over a broad wavelength range. The offset splicing between a polarization-maintaining single mode fiber (PM-SMF) and a two-mode fiber (TMF) is adopted to excite LP11 mode in the TMF from LP01 mode in SMF. Then the OAM ± 1,1 modes are generated by rotating a customized fiber rotator, which can modulate the phase difference of the two degenerate LP11 modes (OAM ± 1,1 = LP11a ± i × LP11b). The interference phenomenon formed between OAM and Gaussian beams, which displays a fork-shape or spiral interference pattern, is used to confirm the generation of OAM modes. It should be noted that a PM fiber coupler and PM-SMFs are utilized in the experiment, which can avoid coupling of modes with orthogonal polarizations and then improves the OAM mode stability. Besides, the complexity of the OAM generation system is also reduced because the devices like polarization controller and half-wave plate are omitted by employing PM fibers. Based on this simple offset splicing and fiber rotating technology, the broadband generation of OAM ± 1,1 modes are experimentally demonstrated in wavelength range of 1530–1566 nm.

  • Comparative analysis of capacity oriented Integrated AMI modulation technique for the deployment of radio over fiber system

    摘要: To improve the spectral efficiency and to reduce non-linear distortion in the optical system, various advanced modulation techniques have been investigated for radio over fiber (RoF) system. The investigation indicates the high data rate distortion less transmission for long-haul RoF system still further investigation is required to improve spectral efficiency and to get the reduction in signal degradation. In this paper, an advanced modulation technique referred as integrated alternate mark inversion modulation technique based upon external modulation (electro-absorption modulator) has been designed and simulated. The results show better performance in terms of performance metrics i.e. Q-factor (25.15) and BER (4e-140) and also enhance the data transmission capabilities up to 100 Gbps covering the long distance of 250 km resulting a reasonable reduction in signal degradation particularly chromatic dispersion effects for long-haul transmissions.

  • Theoretical demonstration of Single polarization single mode hollow core anti-resonance fiber using surface plasmon resonance

    摘要: We designed a hollow core anti-resonance fiber based on surface plasmon resonance and optimized its characteristics by using the finite element method with perfectly matched layer boundary condition. A single mode single polarization bandwidth, up to 200 nm, is obtained by employing surface plasmon resonance which is produced by two embedded gold wires. Only the x-polarized fundamental mode of the fiber suffers a high loss because of the surface plasmon resonance. In addition, single mode guidance is obtained by adjusting the size of cladding tubes. Simulation results show that the designed fiber has an effective single polarization single mode guidance in the wavelength range from 1.3 to 1.5μm. In this range, both the higher order mode extinction ratio and the polarization mode extinction ratio are more than 100. The structure is shown to have a good fabrication tolerance with respect to variations in the position and size of the gold wires. The proposed fiber has many potential applications in polarization splitters, fiber-optic gyroscopes and polarization-dependent fiber systems.

  • Estimation of Signal-to-Cross Talk Ratio of Stimulated-Raman-Scattering-Induced Cross Talk in Wavelength-Division-Multiplexing-Based Radio-over-Fiber Links

    摘要: This paper evaluates the signal-to-cross talk ratio (SXR) of cross talk induced by stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in radio-over-fiber (RoF) systems based on wavelength-division multiplexing. The reported study has modeled the relations of SXR to modulation frequency, optical power, transmission length, and effective area of fiber for various values of the walk-off parameter. The summary of experimental reveals that SXR decreases with increases in channel input power and transmission distance and increased with increases in fiber effective area and modulation frequency. Results showed that increasing the walk-off parameter from 13.6 to 81.6 ps/km increased the SXR by almost 6 dBm. Furthermore, various fibers, including standard single-mode fiber (SMF), Corning LEAF, and Alcatel TeraLight were tested for their capacity to mitigate SRS-induced cross talk. These tests demonstrated that standard SMF suppressed SRS cross talk effectively and offered values of SXR 3 dBm and 6 dBm higher than the values exhibited by Alcatel TeraLight and Corning LEAF, respectively.

  • Recent progress in all-fiber non-Gaussian optical beam shaping technologies

    摘要: Rapid development of fiber lasers are being followed by wide ranges of applications in laser processing technologies. One of the key parameters to determine the laser-matter interaction is beam shape and there have been intense research activities on beam shaping using bulk-optics. However, fiber optic solutions would take clear advantages over bulk-optics especially for fiber laser sources in terms of the beam conversion efficiency, the throughput power, and the compact footprint. In this article, all-fiber optical beam shaping technologies are reviewed and they are categorized as the phase front modification on the fiber facet, the surface plasmonics on fiber, all-fiber Fourier transformation, and multimode interference. Their physical principles, beam shaping capability, and some of the novel applications are explained

  • Single photon interference between bidirectionally extracted photons originating from semiconductor quantum dots

    摘要: We report the experimental demonstration of the single-photon interference of bidirectionally extracted photons from epitaxially grown semiconductor quantum dots. The quantum dots were directly connected to single-mode optical fibers. Single-photon nature between transmission and reflection directions was confirmed through detection of antibunching in second-order photon correlation measurements. A Mach–Zehnder interferometer that was naturally formed by introducing the two outputs into a 2 x 2-fiber coupler was used to perform first-order photon correlation measurements.

    摘要: A microchannel incorporated single mode fiber plasmonic sensor coated with ITO-TiO2 bilayer is proposed in this paper. The sensor responds over a wide refractive index range from 1.33 to 1.41 and sensitivity of 10500nm/RIU is obtained for refractive index 1.41. oxide which is employed to enhance the evanescent field. By taking the aid of a conventional SMF which offers significant cost reduction and good compatibility, our proposed structure achieves reasonably high sensitivity along with wide sensing range.

  • Ultra high birefringence and lower beat length for square shape PCF: Analysis effect on rotation angle and eccentricity

    摘要: In this article, a circular air hole organized in a square manner cladding with porous core using elliptical holes index-guiding photonic crystal fiber (IG-PCF) has been proposed and numerically examined. The numerical study is obtained by using finite element method (FEM) inclusion with an electromagnetic absorption boundary perfectly matched layer (PML). Investigation process runs over a broader wavelength range near IR region from 1.20 mm to 1.80 mm for evaluating modal properties of proposed square shaped PCF. S-PCF expresses higher birefringence (2.2 (cid:1) 10(cid:3)3), high nonlinearity (23.46 W(cid:3)1 km(cid:3)1) along with lower beat length (553.86 mm) at the pumping wavelength k = 1.20 mm. Core holes angle orientation and eccentricity are tuned for gaining higher birefringence. Furthermore, beat length, Veff, spot size, beam divergence are inquired in details. Finally, this research is focused on birefringence and nonlinearity behaviors are highly affected by angle effect and eccentricity.
