  • Flexible organic lighta??emittinga??diodea??based photonic skin for attachable phototherapeutics

    摘要: Phototherapeutics is both safely noninvasive and can be employed to treat a light variety of sites and diseases. Current rigid and bulky conventional light sources, such as LED or laser-based phototherapy devices, are difficult to transport and use for regular irradiation treatments. To solve this problem, flexible organic light-emitting diode (OLED) light sources are the best candidates, and if applied very thinly as a skin-like platform, the ultimate attachable phototherapeutics can be realized. We demonstrated a very thin flexible OLED-based photonic skin with a total thickness of 6 μm for application in attachable phototherapeutics. It was optimized by controlling the peak wavelengths (600–700 nm) and irradiation interval of the flexible OLED thus improving the regeneration effect of the artificial skin by up to 70%. In addition, when the flexible OLED-based photonic skin was attached to a dressing film before being applied to the skin, it delivered the same electro-optical properties, while protecting against external contamination. The OLED skin on the dressing film had an operating lifetime of more than 100 h. These results confirmed the applicability of flexible OLED-based photonic skin to various light treatment areas, such as surgical wounds that require periodic irradiation.

  • Multiple miliary osteoma cutis treatment response to Q-switched Nd:YAG laser: A case report

    摘要: Facial multiple miliary osteoma cutis is a variant of osteoma cutis usually occurring in women with a previous history of acne vulgaris. Successful ablative laser treatment has been reported using both CO2 and Er:YAG lasers among other invasive treatment modalities, like surgical removal. We report a patient with biopsy-proven facial multiple miliary osteoma cutis responding to non-ablative Q-switched Nd:YAG laser therapy. The patient had excellent cosmesis without textural changes or hypopigmentation despite her Asian background after three sessions over 6 months. Multiple miliary osteoma cutis is therefore now amenable to non-surgical non-ablative therapy by using Q-switched Nd:YAG laser therapy reducing the risk of textural changes and hypopigmentation, especially in dark complexion and high-risk individuals. To our knowledge, this treatment approach has not been previously reported.

  • New technology for coagulation of dilated vessels using the combined effects of several modes of generation and wavelengths in one laser pulse for the treatment of pediatric hemangiomas: Open prospective study

    摘要: An open, prospective, nonrandomized study of 122 children with infantile hemangiomas aged 1 to 24 months was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of treatment with multiline laser equipment using the Nd:YAP Q-Sw/KTP emitters with the combined use of two wavelengths of 1079/540 nm. The average age of the children was (6.3 ± 0.3) months, 22 of them were boys (18.0%) and 100 were girls (82.0%). An erythometry and ultrasound examination were performed to determine the depth of the neoplasm, to assess its blood flow, and the presence and diameter of the supply vessels. Studies of these indicators were conducted for patients before and after the treatment. Laser treatment was performed on 109 patients with 119 hemangiomas. A total of 81 superficial hemangiomas underwent a short course of laser therapy (2-5 procedures) and remaining patients with 38 combined hemangiomas received a long course of laser treatment, consisting of 6 to 10 procedures. Restoration of normal color, skin relief, and the absence of scars were noted in post-treatment sample on evaluation. After the course of treatment, erythometry readings corresponded to the values of normal skin and decreased to 110 to 80 cu. Ultrasound examination showed vascular formation and feed vessels were not visualized.

  • Comparison of two skin temperature assessment methods after the application of topical revulsive products: Conductive iButton data logger system vs contact-free infrared thermometry

    摘要: Background: Skin temperature assessments comprise conductive and contact-free techniques. Comparison between conductive data loggers and contact-free thermometry after the application of revulsive products is scarce. This study aimed to compare iButton data loggers with an infrared thermometer after the application of two revulsive products. Secondly, the relation between skin temperature kinetics with skin's perfusion of microcirculation was investigated. Materials and methods: Healthy females (n = 25) were randomly allocated to two groups, representing the products A and B. Skin temperature was measured with “iButtons” and an infrared pistol at baseline and up to 1 hour after application. Skin's perfusion of microcirculation was monitored with a laser speckle contrast imager. Results: Baseline “iButton” temperature values were significantly lower compared with infrared pistol values in both groups. After application of the products, skin temperature decreased as recorded with both devices followed by an increase to baseline values when measured with the pistol. The results obtained by the “iButtons” reached values above baseline in both products towards the end of the follow-up period. A moderate correlation was found between infrared pistol and “iButton” system in product A, with a weak negative correlation between skin's perfusion of microcirculation and temperature devices. For product B, the correlation between the devices was moderate and between skin's perfusion and temperature devices weak and positive. Conclusion: Both devices produced similar kinetics, except at baseline, where they may differ as metallic loggers have been insufficiently adapted to skin temperature. Skin's perfusion of microcirculation could not explain skin temperature changes.

  • Interactive Colora??Changing Electronic Skin Based on Flexible and Piezoelectrically Tunable Quantum Dots Lighta??Emitting Diodes

    摘要: Inspired by animals in nature, such as chameleons, frogs, and cephalopods, the remarkable capability of changing one’s skin color has drawn considerable interests due to its wide applications in camouflage, warning methods, and visual communications. Today, research on electronic skins (e-skins), imitating biological skin by quantifying external stimuli, to mimic this unique color-changing function has been achieved based on the integration of a matrix of displays and sensors; however, integrated systems possess bulky and complicated fabrication processes. Here, the first attempt to demonstrate a single user-interactive e-skin device with color-changing response upon applied external strain is made, while using a cost-effective and space-saving method, which promises to open new possibilities for the development of next-generation e-skins with visual response.

  • DEVELOPMENT OF AN EQUIVALENT CIRCUIT MODEL OF A FINITE GROUND COPLANAR WAVEGUIDE INTERCONNECT IN MIS SYSTEM FOR ULTRA-BROADBAND MONOLITHIC ICS

    摘要: An equivalent circuit model of a ?nite ground plane coplanar waveguide (FGCPW) interconnect in a metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) system for an ultra-broadband monolithic IC is proposed and illustrated. An e?ective substrate considering Maxwell-Wagner Polarization is suggested and demonstrated. The method of modeling the weak skin e?ect of the conductor is presented. The accuracy of the equivalent circuit model is evaluated. This proposed FGCPW interconnect equivalent circuit model enables a quick and e?cient time domain simulation to estimate the time delay and bandwidth of ultra-broadband ICs.

  • One-Structure-Based Multi-Effects Coupled Nanogenerators for Flexible and Self-Powered Multi-Functional Coupled Sensor Systems

    摘要: The simultaneous monitoring of multi-physical signals is essential for future sensor systems, but is currently only realized by integrating a variety of sensor types into a single device. However, the ability to use a single sensor structure that shares common electrodes can provide a route to multi-functional sensing while also decreasing device size and increasing spatial resolution. Here we report a ferroelectric barium titanate film-based multi-effect coupled nanogenerator for scavenging light, mechanical, and thermal energies to realize a self-powered multi-functional coupled sensor system without using any external power source. The coupled nanogenerator exhibits a strong coupling enhancement with detection sensitivities of 0.42 nA/(mW/cm2) during illumination by 405 nm light, 1.43 nA/kPa for pressure detection, and -8.85 nA/K for temperature sensing, where both the light and pressure sensing performances have the highest sensitivities during a cooling temperature variation of ~19.5 K and the largest temperature detection sensitivity can be achieved during strong light illumination of 83.2 mW/cm2. Moreover, the coupled nanogenerator array can be integrated into flexible forms for tactile pressure, temperature, and light sensors, and enabling coupled sensing for the development of electronic skins.

  • Optical examination of the efficacy of contact needle therapy for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy: integration of inspection in Kampo therapy with color spectrum information

    摘要: Cancer chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) deteriorates the patient’s quality of life, often resulting in discontinuation of treatment with potentially effective chemotherapy. Contact needle therapy (CNT) is one of the traditional Japanese acupuncture methods based on the concept of Kampo (Japanese traditional) medicine. CNT on CIPN has been considered effective empirically, but an objective evaluation has proven difficult. We have focused on the oxygen saturation besides the symptom score. We have already proposed optical path-length matrix method (OPLM) for estimating oxygen saturation of the skin, which may help in locating peripheral tissue damage, including neuronal damage. Four patients with CIPN were treated with CNT. The severity of CIPN was evaluated using the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) ver. 4 and FACT/GOG-Ntx before and after CNT. We also measured oxygen saturation and hemoglobin concentration at the right toe-tip. Correlations among the values were calculated as correlation coefficients. There were significantly improvements in FACT/GOG-Ntx and hemoglobin post-CNT than in pre-CNT (p < 0.05). The oxygen saturation showed broad correlation (0.5 < |r| < 1) with hemoglobin. The oxygen saturation of skin reflects tissue injury and blood stagnation status, and can help in objective evaluation by measuring skin color spectrum. CNT might be considered as one of the safe and effective alternative therapeutic options for CIPN. Our method of evaluation using skin color spectrum information integrates, in a sense, the inspection in Kampo (Japanese traditional medicine) therapy and scientific methodology.

  • Rise and side infiltration in opals and porous materials for their skin-free replica synthesis

    摘要: A floating opal placed on a certain liquid will cause the liquid to climb through the opal gaps, fill all its pores, and stop almost of its upper surface without covering it. A drop of solution with a surface tension much lower than that of water, deposited on a hydrophilic substrate near an opal, rapidly spread over a large surface forming a film which will surround the opal and infiltrate it from the side without covering it. High quality, skin-free, inverse opals can be synthesized by rise and side infiltration of solution in opals. The overlayer absence leads to the fabrication of mechanically robust, crack-free, completely filled photonic crystals which preserve the long rage order of initial opals. Inverse opals of sodium silicate were synthesized starting from polystyrene nanospheres self-assembled through hanging drop technique followed by their rise and side infiltration, casting, and template removal. Crystalline material inverse opals such as glycine, sodium chloride, and sulfur were also synthesized.

  • Predictive equation for post-mortem interval using spectrophotometric values of post-mortem lividity: A pilot study

    摘要: The colour of post-mortem lividity and control skin of 86 cadavers was measured spectrophotometrically to obtain L* (value), a* (chroma) and b* (hue) values. In addition, left heart blood (n = 58), right heart blood (n = 57) and blood from the femoral vein (n = 21) were measured. Using these data, we analysed the relationship between post-mortem lividity, control skin and blood colours. L* of post-mortem lividity (L* p) and control skin (L* c) were strongly correlated (r = 0.64). a* and b* of post-mortem lividity (a* p and b* p) significantly increased with an increasing post-mortem interval (PMI) but r2 values were low (0.11 and 0.070, respectively). Predictive equations for post-mortem lividity colour (L* p, a* p and b* p) were developed using control skin colour (L* c, a* c and b* c) and autopsy findings for the first time. The predictive equation for L* p explained almost 65% of the observed L* p. We created predictive equations for PMI with and without blood colour values, and the most accurate equation, which did not use blood colour values, made it possible to estimate PMI within ±10.29 h. Further study of these equations will help us to understand the factors that affect post-mortem lividity colour and increase the accuracy of equations for predicting post-mortem lividity colour and PMI.
