  • Pump-Probe Study of Plasma Dynamics in Gas-Filled Photonic Crystal Fiber Using Counterpropagating Solitons

    摘要: We present a pump-probe technique for monitoring ultrafast polarizability changes. In particular, we use it to measure the plasma density created at the temporal focus of a self-compressing higher-order pump soliton in a gas-?lled hollow-core photonic crystal ?ber. This is done by monitoring the wavelength of the dispersive wave emission from a counterpropagating probe soliton. By varying the relative delay between pump and probe, the plasma density distribution along the ?ber can be mapped out. Compared with recently introduced interferometric side probing for monitoring the plasma density, our technique is relatively immune to instabilities caused by air turbulence and mechanical vibration. The results of two experiments on argon- and krypton-?lled ?ber are presented and compared to numerical simulations. The technique provides an important tool for probing photoionization in many di?erent gases and gas mixtures, as well as ultrafast changes in dispersion in many other contexts.

  • Generation of single and periodically repeated powerful ultrashort microwave pulses

    摘要: Generation of powerful ultrashort microwave pulses (USP) is of interest for a large number of practical applications, including radars with high resolution, plasma diagnostics, spectroscopy etc. In order to achieve this purpose many methods well-known in laser physics can be implemented in microwave electronics. In the last decade significant progress was achieved in generation of microwave USPs based on classical superradiance (SR) of extended electron bunches. Using of this effect a new type of pulse sources has been developed, which are capable of producing uniquely short (under 0.2–1 ns) electromagnetic pulses at super-high peak powers exceeding 1 GW in the millimeter waves (Ka-band) and 3 GW in the centimeter waves (X-band) with a repetition frequency up to several kilohertz [1]. A natural continuation of this research is related with the promotion of SR sources in shorter wavelengths ranges, where the oversized waveguides should be used. In the first part of this paper the results of the experimental observation of SR emission with excitation of a surface wave in the oversized periodically corrugated slow wave structures are presented. The experiments were based on a theoretical consideration in the frame of the quasi-optical approach. A periodic train of powerful ultrashort microwave pulses with a repetition frequency of 10–100 MHz can be generated in electron oscillators with a saturable absorber installed in the feedback loop [2]. The mechanism of pulse formation in this case is similar to the passive mode-locking [3] in laser physics where such pulses are also treated as dissipative solitons. The second part of this paper is devoted to the theoretical analysis of solitons generation in a mode-locked two-section microwave oscillator consisting of Cherenkov TWT and a Kompfner absorber in the feedback loop.

  • Quasi-One-Dimensional Discrete Solitons Supported by Negative Anisotropic Dipole–Dipole Interaction

    摘要: The quasi-one-dimensional discrete solitons supported by negative anisotropic dipole–dipole interactions (DDIs) in the domain of two-dimensional (2D) discrete deep optical lattices are investigated. The static and kinetic characteristics of the stable discrete solitons are systematically studied by numerical simulations. The novel results show that the families of such discrete solitons can be termed as a family of quasi-one-dimensional solitons. These solitons almost align in a single column of lattices, and they can only move in their elongation direction. Moreover, they show various patterns of scattering in their elongation direction on the 2D plane.

  • Solitons in optical metamaterials with anti-cubic law of nonlinearity by ETEM and IGEM

    摘要: This paper studies soliton perturbation in optical metamaterials, with anticubic nonlinearity. Methods: Two integration approaches, namely, the extended trial equation method (ETEM) and the improved G’/G-expansion method (IGEM) are presented. Results: Bright, dark and singular soliton solutions are retrieved. The existence criteria of these solitons in metamaterials are also demonstrated. All solutions have been verified back into its corresponding equation with the aid of maple package program. Conclusions: Finally, we believe that the executed method is robust and efficient than other methods and the obtained solutions in this paper can help us to understand the variation of solitary waves in optical metamaterials.

  • Analytical Analysis of Soliton Propagation in Microcavity Wires

    摘要: We propose to explore analytically one of the most promising e?ects (soliton) for future applications in optical communication processing and memory devices, due to the nonlinearity inside low dimensional semiconductor systems. We focus on soliton propagation in microcavity wires. We derive analytical exact solutions that describe the stationary states of the soliton’s pro?le in the cavity. We present a scheme that gives such pro?les for a given external con?ning potential. The obtained pro?les compare favorably with existing experimental and numerical results.

  • [Springer Tracts in Modern Physics] Parity-time Symmetry and Its Applications Volume 280 || Nonlinear Beam Propagation in a Class of Complex Non- P T $$\mathcal {PT}$$ -Symmetric Potentials

    摘要: The subject of PT -symmetry and its areas of application have been blossoming over the past decade. Here, we consider a nonlinear Schr?dinger model with a complex potential that can be tuned controllably away from being PT -symmetric, as it might be the case in realistic applications. We utilize two parameters: the ?rst one breaks PT -symmetry but retains a proportionality between the imaginary and the derivative of the real part of the potential; the second one, detunes from this latter proportionality. It is shown that the departure of the potential from the PT -symmetric form does not allow for the numerical identi?cation of exact stationary solutions. Nevertheless, it is of crucial importance to consider the dynamical evolution of initial beam pro?les. In that light, we de?ne a suitable notion of optimization and ?nd that even for non PT -symmetric cases, the beam dynamics, both in 1D and 2D – although prone to weak growth or decay– suggests that the optimized pro?les do not change signi?cantly under propagation for speci?c parameter regimes.

  • Multisoliton spectrum breaking due to small harmonic perturbations

    摘要: We demonstrate analytically and numerically that velocities and amplitudes of the single-soliton components of a high-intensity light pulse with a linear frequency chirp and a parabolic pro?le are highly sensitive to small harmonic phase perturbations from certain frequency band. This exponential sensitivity with respect to the pulse amplitude and chirp rate product should be taken into account for the characterization and applications of such pulses.

  • Optical soliton molecules in birefringent fibers having weak non-local nonlinearity and four-wave mixing with a couple of strategic integration architectures

    摘要: This paper retrieves optical solitons in birefringent fibers having non-local nonlinearity in presence of four-wave mixing. Phase-matching conditions have been implemented to display these solitons. Bright, dark and singular soliton solutions are revealed.

  • Optical soliton perturbation with full nonlinearity by extended trial function method

    摘要: The extended trial function scheme is applied to retrieve soliton solutions to the perturbed nonlinear Schr?dinger’s equation with ten forms of fiber nonlinearity. Bright, dark and singular soliton solutions are retrieved that appear with their respective existence criteria. Some additional forms of nonlinear waves naturally emerge as a byproduct of the integration scheme.
