  • Automatic Registration of INSAT-3D Daily Images Using Mutual Information and Stochastic Optimization Technique

    摘要: An automatic image registration approach is presented here can be used to register daily images of Indian geostationary satellite system INSAT-3D acquired every 30 min’ interval without use of any ground control points (GCPs). There is always a pressing need to register meteorological images that are acquired over earth from geostationary platforms every 15–30 min, covering almost one-third of the earth. Weather forecast activities include derivation of atmospheric motion vectors, which demand immediate processing of such images to a reasonable accuracy in terms of its relative location accuracy. Generally followed approaches make use of image navigation models and GCPs drawn from known landmarks in land ocean boundaries and correlate image features before estimating a transform to warp the current acquisition to a known geometry. However, the hierarchical (coarse to ?ne) approach explained here makes use of intensity based Mutual Information as a similarity measure from a population of pixels selected randomly and uses stochastic gradient descent optimizer to estimate an af?ne transform between registering image pair, delivers satisfactory results.

    摘要: We describe a novel iterative methodology for computing a set of low-sidelobe beamforming weights for an airborne, electronically-steered phased-array radar using an in-flight stochastic optimization routine performed over a number of coherent processing intervals (CPIs). The proposed approach is notable in that it does not rely upon a good antenna calibration and only requires digitization of the radar’s sum beam. By observing the radar ground clutter, the algorithm iteratively adjusts the beamformer. Furthermore, it is computationally inexpensive and scales favorably to radars comprising very large numbers of antenna elements and requiring extremely low sidelobes.

    摘要: This paper presents a novel energy-management method for a microgrid that includes renewable energy, diesel generators, battery storage, and various loads. We assume that the microgrid takes part in a pool market and responds actively to the electricity price to maximize its pro?t by scheduling its controllable resources. To address various uncertainties, a risk-constrained scenario-based stochastic programming framework is proposed using the conditional value at risk method. The designed model is solved by two levels of stochastic optimization methods. One level of optimization is to submit optimal hourly bids to the day-ahead market under the forecast data. The other level of optimization is to determine the optimal scheduling using the scenario-based stochastic data of the uncertain resources. The proposed energy management system is not only bene?cial for the microgrid and customers, but also applies the microgrid aggregator and virtual power plant. The results are shown to prove the validity of the proposed framework.

  • Risk assessment in a central concentrating solar power plant

    摘要: In this paper, optimal scheduling of a central concentrating solar power (CSP) plant which is one of the most promising technologies in the solar energy is investigated in the presence of different uncertainties. Thermal energy storage is integrated with the CSP plant in order to allow the plant to be independent from the instantaneous solar radiation. In order to model different uncertainty such as power market price and solar irradiation, a new hybrid information gap decision theory (IGDT)-stochastic method is introduced which is a mixed-integer linear programming method and presents more reliable results in a suitable computation time. In the proposed method the uncertainty of the solar irradiation is modeled by IGDT method while power market price uncertainty is considered by a set of fifty scenarios. Three different strategies as risk-averse, risk-neutral and risk-taker are introduced to analyze the operation of the CSP plant. In the risk-neutral strategy, obtained profit is equal to $3895 which is reduced in the risk-averse strategy by increasing robustness value indicating increased uncertainty of the solar irradiation. In the risk-taker strategy, the CSP operating profit will be equal to $4245 by 15% of increase in solar radiation, comparing with the risk-neutral case shows almost 8.2% increase in profit.
