  • Compact High Gain Leaky-Wave Antennas Based on Substrate Integrated Waveguide TE <sub/>220</sub> Mode

    摘要: In this paper, novel compact high gain broadband leaky-wave antenna (LWA) using TE220 high-order mode is proposed. The high-order mode antenna not only possesses more compact structure with higher gain, but also simpli?es the feeding network of the antenna array and relaxes processing tolerance. The radiation element consists of an SIW cavity etched with 2 × 2 slot array on the top surface, which is excited by a microstrip-slot coupling structure. Microstrip spoof surface plasmon polariton (SPP) is worked as a slow-wave transmission line (TL) to increase the beam scanning range of a four elements periodic array antenna. The antenna was simulated, optimized and fabricated, which veri?ed theoretical analysis. Experimental results show that the linearly polarized (LP) beam scanning antenna has a bandwidth of 53.5% (from 12.6 GHz to 21.8 GHz) with beam scanning range from ?24? to +32? and gain in the range of 10.2 dBi to 12.4 dBi. Then a linear-to-circular polarization converter is loaded to implement a circular polarization (CP) beam scanning antenna. The proposed antenna has the features of compact size, low pro?le, high gain, large beam scanning range and ?exible polarization conversion.

    摘要: In this paper we propose a novel diplexer based on surface plasmon polariton (SPP) like propagation in substrate integrated waveguide (SIW). The diplexer consists of two two-layer SIW filters, where layers are designed to have effective permittivities of opposite signs in a certain frequency ranges, thus providing SPP-like propagation, and consequently passbands and stopbands in the desired frequency ranges. The diplexer is designed to operate at 2.4/2.6 GHz, and it is characterized by high performance, low-profile and low-cost structure.

  • Supercompact and Ultrawideband Surface Plasmonic Bandpass Filter

    摘要: We propose a supercompact and ultrawideband (UWB) bandpass filter for spoof surface plasmonic polariton (SSPP) mode. By using meander-line technology, the electrical size of the proposed SSPP structure is reduced dramatically, which is only about 1/4 of the traditional rectangular-groove structure with the same geometry. Based on the proposed SSPP structure, we construct a supercompact UWB bandpass filter working in the frequency range of 0.25–4.5 GHz, whose geometric size is only 87.5 × 12.8 mm2. The upper cutoff frequency of the passband can be controlled by changing the meander-line design of the SSPP unit, and the lower cutoff frequency of the passband is determined by the capacitive coupling of the feeding structure. Both the simulation and experimental results show that the UWB SSPP bandpass filter is centered at 2.4 GHz with an extremely wide relative bandwidth of 174%, whose electrical size is only 0.7λ × 0.1λ at the central frequency.

  • Grating-assisted coupling enhancing plasmonic tip nanofocusing illuminated via radial vector beam

    摘要: Tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS) is a very useful method to achieve label-free and super-resolution imaging, and the plasmonic tip nanofocusing plays a decisive role for TERS performance. Here, we present a method to enhance the nanofocusing characteristic of a plasmonic tip integrated in a grating near the tip apex. Simulation results show that the grating near the tip apex can significantly improve the electric field intensity of the nanofocusing field compared with a conventional bare tip, under axial excitation of a tightly focused radial vector beam. The electric field enhancement characteristic is quantified in relation with the groove number of grating, excitation wavelength, period of grating, and numerical aperture of the micro-objective (MO). These simulation results could be a good reference to fabricate a plasmonic tip for TERS applications, which is an effective way to promote the development of tip-enhanced near-field optical microscopy.

  • Design and analysis of a plasmonic demultiplexer based on band-stop filters using double-nanodisk-shaped resonators

    摘要: In this paper, a two-channel plasmonic wavelength demultiplexer (PWDM) based on band-stop filters (BSF) using double-nanodisk-shaped resonators is proposed. The structure is numerically simulated using finite difference time domain method. First, a BSF is considered for modeling which supports three modes. Then, the effect of various structural parameters of the proposed PWDM is studied on the transmission properties in detail. The results show that the transmission properties of our PWDM are highly dependent on geometric parameters. The proposed structure provides a single-mode spectrum on each of the output ports with a maximum quality factor as high as 105 (FWHM = 7.7 nm). To this end, we illustrate that the concerning published research in this field, the significant privilege of our proposed PWDM structure is in terms of its good transmission efficiency, lowest FWHM and highest quality factor. Hence, such an arrangement is easy to fabricate and it has the potential for use in all-optical ultra-compact circuits and devices.

  • Effect of nanoparticle size to improvement in absorption in Plasmonic solar cell

    摘要: In last decades, plasmonics gives very high attention and closely involves in the main domains of nanophotonics which can control of optical fields at the nanodimension level. Its most striking property is to concentrate and enhance the electromagnetic field on the nanometer scale especially in solar cell. In plasmonic field, Nobel metals used as nanoparticle where density of electron gas which oscillates at surface plasmon frequency at the same time also improves absorption by scattering. So the use of plasmonic in solar cell gives better opportunity to enhance efficiency by absorption as the optical spectrum loss are most part of total loss in solar cell. In this paper, we investigate the effect of nanoparticle dimension for enhancement of extinction in terms of absorption and scattering by means of surface plasmon and also studied finite-difference time domain based proposed model which shows improvement in various simulated surface plasmonic fields components.

    摘要: The performance of optical light out-coupling of Top-emitting organic light-emitting diode (OLED) is mainly suppressed by surface plasmon polaritons (SPP) on the interface between metal and organic layer, and micro-cavity effect between two metal electrodes. To reduce their influence and enhance the light extraction efficiency, an electromagnetic model of top-emitting organic light-emitting diode (TEOLED) with metallic grating anode is proposed in this report. The numerical simulation performance of metallic grating anode that can enhances the light extraction efficiency of OLED by recovering the energy of surface plasmon polariton mode between organic-metal interface. The simulation based on the Finite Element method (FEM) and Finite difference time domain (FDTD) shows the field distribution and transmission spectrum of proposed TEOLED model, and then indicates the ability of metallic grating anode to improve the light extraction efficiency significantly, which provides a new approach to enhance the efficiency of top-emitting OLED.

  • Key Roles of Plasmonics in Wireless THz Nanocommunicationsa??A Survey

    摘要: Wireless data traffic has experienced an unprecedented boost in past years, and according to data traffic forecasts, within a decade, it is expected to compete sufficiently with wired broadband infrastructure. Therefore, the use of even higher carrier frequency bands in the THz range, via adoption of new technologies to equip future THz band wireless communication systems at the nanoscale is required, in order to accommodate a variety of applications, that would satisfy the ever increasing user demands of higher data rates. Certain wireless applications such as 5G and beyond communications, network on chip system architectures, and nanosensor networks, will no longer satisfy speed and latency demands with existing technologies and system architectures. Apart from conventional CMOS technology, and the already tested, still promising though, photonic technology, other technologies and materials such as plasmonics with graphene respectively, may offer a viable infrastructure solution on existing THz technology challenges. This survey paper is a thorough investigation on the current and beyond state of the art plasmonic system implementation for THz communications, by providing in-depth reference material, highlighting the fundamental aspects of plasmonic technology roles in future THz band wireless communication and THz wireless applications, that will define future demands coping with users’ needs.

  • Double-wavelength nanolaser based on strong coupling of localized and propagating surface plasmon

    摘要: We theoretically demonstrate a kind of plasmon coupled cavity to achieve a nanolaser with high intensity and low threshold. The plasmon cavity is composed of the gold film substrate and gold disk array, which supports two strong coupled resonance modes (i.e. surface plasmon polariton (SPP) and localized surface plasmon (LSP)). Compared with the nanolaser with the LSP resonance structure, the scattering cross-section of the LSP-SPP coupled laser is 80 times higher. The coupled cavity nanolaser with different wavelengths can be excited with different plasmon resonance modes by selecting the appropriate gain medium. In addition, a compact tunable dual-wavelength laser can be developed using this coupled structure.

  • Fano approximation for coupled modes in metal-dielectric multilayer structures

    摘要: We study the response of coupled modes in metal-dielectric multilayer planar structures consisting of a metal layer attached to a high-index waveguide by a low-index spacer layer. The structure supports excitation and coupling of a surface plasmon polariton mode and a waveguide mode. A coupled-mode model is developed to analyse the field transfer processes and describe the appearance of Fano resonances as a result of the modes interaction. It is demonstrated that the response of the plasmonic mode can be well fitted to a Fano function that allows extraction of width, height, sensitivity, and field enhancement.
