  • UWB radar cross section reduction in a compact antipodal Vivaldi antenna

    摘要: This paper presents the design of a compact antipodal Vivaldi antenna (AVA) with reduced radar cross section (RCS) for directional UWB communications. The impedance characteristics of a conventional AVA are improved by introducing a BALUN taper in the ground plane and circular slots of different diameters in the wings of the AVA. The slots on the wings improve the RCS performance of the antenna by rejecting the orthogonal radiations from the AVA. Furthermore, drills of suitable diameter are introduced to further enhance the monostatic RCS performance. The proposed AVA offers 74% size reduction compared to the existing AVAs reported in literature with its bandwidth extending from 3 GHz to over 12 GHz. The prototype AVA is fabricated and the simulation results are veri?ed using experimental measurements. The prototype antenna offers at least 11 dB reduction in RCS throughout the operating bandwidth with a peak reduction of 16 dB at 7 GHz and 11 GHz.

    摘要: A new breed of the Frequency-scaled, Ultra-wide Spectrum Element (FUSE) is built entirely from a single piece of metal using direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) for space-borne missions. An active electronically scanned array (AESA) was built that includes an 8x4 linearly polarized aperture and low-profile feed circuitry that has eight true-time delay units (TDU) to fit inside a 3U CubeSat. This AESA operates over 1.5 GHz – 6 GHz, scanning +/- 45 degrees in azimuth with a very low active voltage standing wave ratio (active VSWR). The weight of the array with its combiner and beamforming boards is less than 3 lbs.

  • A high gain 60 GHz antipodal Fermi-tapered slot antenna based on robust synthesized dielectric

    摘要: A high performance antipodal Fermi taper slot antenna based on unique synthesized dielectric is presented for ultra-wideband radar applications at 60 GHz band. Specifically, the synthesized dielectric is implemented based on machined holes concentrates only at aperture area to improve its mechanical robustness for lengthy antenna. Further, it is able to suppress back lobe level by 2.5 dB through curving tapered end of the antenna. Concurrently, sine corrugations and dielectric loading are adopted to improve radiation pattern and gain of the antenna for over 20 dB.
