  • Optical characteristics of the undamaged and laser damaged K9 glass in terahertz band

    摘要: K9 glass is an important optical element of the high energy laser system. In an attempt to investigate the variation of optical properties of K9 glass before and after laser induced damage, based on the transmission terahertz time-domain spectral system, the undamaged and the damaged K9 glasses induced by laser were tested to obtain the terahertz time-domain and frequency-domain spectra and the refractive index and absorption coef?cient of the samples were calculated in terahertz band for further analysis. Results show that with the increase of laser energy, from the undamaged to the damaged K9 glasses to different extent, the peak to peak value in time domain and the amplitude value in frequency domain present a decreasing trend in varying degrees, and in the 0.4~0.5 THz band, the absorption coef?cient increases continuously with a slight change of refractive index, which indicates that K9 glass not only appears the melting and fracture in the macroscopic morphology after laser-induced damage, but also forms non-bridged oxygen atoms in its microstructure with more ion bonds and free electrons and the change of ion polarization. In this regard, this paper provides a technical basis for exploring the micro characteristics of K9 glass after laser-induced damage, and lays a good foundation for the application of terahertz time-domain spectroscopy to laser-induced damage analysis.

  • Terahertz and Infrared Spectroscopy of Dense and Porous Organosilicate Glass Thin Films

    摘要: Wide-range measurements of thin films of SiCxOyHz organosilicate glasses, both dense and porous, deposited on dielectric sapphire substrates and conductive layers of platinum and aluminum, were performed in the THz–IR (5–5000 cm–1) range. This method can be used not only to analyze the evolution of absorption bands in amorphous dielectric films but also to evaluate static conductivity in the framework of the Drude model of conductive layers and to determine the electrodynamic characteristics of organosilicate films with low dielectric permittivity. The original approach proposes a comprehensive analysis of experimental broadband data in order to determine not only the parameters of the individual bands of lattice and molecular vibrations but also the integrated electrodynamic characteristics of the samples obtained.

    摘要: High-power terahertz pulse generation and its polarization and frequency control by optical rectification with nonlinear organic crystals were studied. Terahertz pulses up to 730 nJ/pulse was generated from a DAST crystal pumped by 250 μJ femotosecond laser pulses with a central wavelength of 1500 nm. The terahertz peak electric field is estimated as 860 kV/cm if we focus the terahertz beam to φ=300 μm spot, which is expected to nonlinear material control application. We proposed the high-power terahertz polarization pulse shaping using the double stacked nonlinear organic crystals excited with tailored pump pulses. Through the terahertz modulation of pump pulses, the waveform shaping of the high-power terahertz pulses are expected, which leads to selective excitation of molecules or spin waves.

    摘要: In this paper, we show that the positive terahertz photoconductivity in Hg1-xCdxTe solid solutions being in a topological phase (x < 0.16) strongly depends on the combination of both the external magnetic field direction and the potential probe position. The asymmetry in the photoresponse in the magnetic field may be due to the spin-related features of the carriers excited.

  • Vacuum Arc Plasma Heated by Sub-Terahertz Radiation as a Source of Extreme Ultraviolet Light

    摘要: This paper presents the results of the ?rst experimental studies of the interaction of a powerful sub-terahertz radiation with expanding highly inhomogeneous plasma of vacuum arc discharge. The tantalum plasma of a vacuum arc discharge additionally heated by the focused sub-terahertz radiation of a gyrotron, the radiation power is up to 250 kW, and the wavelength is 1.2 mm. Characteristics of the light emission in the extreme ultraviolet range are presented.

    摘要: Laser nature of a continuous pulse-periodical radiation of the Novosibirsk free-electron laser (NovoFEL) appears in a good coherency of its pulses and very narrow synchronized longitudinal modes. Filtration of one of the modes by a system of three resonance Fabry-Perot interferometers allows to create laser source with monochromaticity which is sufficient for typical high-resolution THz spectroscopy (δf/f ≤ 5·10-8, δf ≤ 0.1 MHz). Features of the source compared to other alternative devices are a wide tuning range (1.5-3 THz) and much more high output power (up to 50-100 mW).

  • State-of-the-Art of Studies of the Effect of Terahertz Radiation on Living Biological Systems

    摘要: The appearance of modern sources and detectors of terahertz radiation (1011–1013 Hz) stimulated the rapid development of practical applications for radiation in this frequency range. Therefore, the question of the safety of terahertz radiation for living objects was sharply raised. In this review, we present an analysis of research on this issue published from 2010 to the present. A brief description of the most significant works performed before 2010 is given. Particular attention is paid to the sources of terahertz radiation used in the studies and the results of experimental work on the study of possible bioeffects when such radiation is applied to both individual cell lines and microorganisms and animals generally.

  • Terahertz Spectral of Enantiomers and Racemic Amino Acids by Time-Domain-Spectroscopy Technology

    摘要: The absorption spectra of four amino acids were studied. These spectra are obtained by terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (TDS) technique. The four amino acids are alanine, methionine, leucine, and valine, respectively. The spectra of their enantiomers (L-, D-) and racemic compounds (DL-) were investigated. Although the two isomers have very similar structures, their absorption spectra are obviously different. The absorption coefficient of each structure is calculated by the density functional theory (DFT), and the simulated spectra of each structure are obtained. It is shown that the number of the calculated peaks is in good agreement with the experimental ones. The experimental spectra were compared with the theoretical spectra. The differences between the absorption spectra of isomers are presented, and the reasons for the differences were analyzed. The vibratory spectra of biomolecules were studied, and the correlation between molecular structure and function was further understood.

  • 100 GHz Multiple Colliding Pulse Generation From Cleaved Facet-Free Multi-Section Semiconductor Laser Diode

    摘要: Terahertz (THz) cameras comprising an uncooled micro-bolometer array have been developed for simple THz imaging, and the improvement of their sensitivity is one of the important issues. We fabricated a new micro-bolometer array with a resonant cavity structure for a real-time THz camera, alongside a new method for evaluating the sensitivity across a wide range of the THz frequency region. The frequency dependence of the sensitivity of the THz camera is measured in the 0.5–2.0-THz frequency range taking the polarization dependence into account. It was found that the resonant cavity structure effectively increased the sensitivity of the THz camera, and, actually, the improvement by one order of magnitude was achieved in the frequency range below 1 THz. The THz camera with much enhanced sensitivity will expand the frontiers of real-time THz imaging such as molecular imaging and nondestructive inspection.

  • PERFORMANCE PREDICTION OF BUNDLE DOUBLE-WALLED CARBON NANOTUBE-COMPOSITE MATERIALS FOR DIPOLE ANTENNAS AT TERAHERTZ FREQUENCY RANGE

    摘要: In this paper, the double-walled carbon nanotube composite material (DWCNTs-composite) and bundle of DWCNT-composite material (CB-DWCNTs) for antenna applications at terahertz frequency range are presented and investigated. The mathematical modeling and analysis of DWCNTs-composite material is presented for the purpose of modelling and simulation approach. The bundle of DWCNTs-composite material is constructed and designed, based on this modeling approach. The DWCNT-composite material consists of double-walled carbon nanotube coated by a thin jacket of another di?erent material. The dependency of the electrical conductivity of B-DWCNTs-composite on di?erent parameters is presented and investigated. The performance evaluation of B-DWCNTs-composite and CB-DWCNTs materials are presented based on their electromagnetic properties. For this purpose, the dipole antennas of these composite materials are designed and implemented using CST (MWS), where the cross sections of B-DWCNTs-composite and CB-DWCNT materials are circular geometry. Furthermore, comparative studies are performed to show the dependency of size and frequency of the DWCNT-composite material. The results obtained from the DWCNTs-composite and CB-DWCNTs dipole antennas are presented based on S11 parameters, resonant frequency, gain, bandwidth, and e?ciency.
