  • Structural, optical and photocatlytic properties of zinc oxide nanoparticles obtained by simple plant extract mediated synthesis

    摘要: We report a facile and inexpensive method to prepare zinc oxide nanoparticles with different particle size and shape using Achyranthes aspera and Couroupita guianensis leaf extracts as the reducing agent and zinc nitrate as a precursor. The prepared zinc oxide nanoparticles were analyzed by various characterization methods and obtained results evidently revealed that crystalline parameter, purity, optical absorption, band gap, particle size and shape of the ZnO nanoparticles significantly influenced by the type of leaf extract used as reducing agent. Further, photocatlytic activity study obviously demonstrates that prepared samples exhibits superior photocatlytic activity for the degradation of methylene blue dye by creating superoxide anion radicals and OH radicals under photonic irradiation. Hence, prepared zinc oxide nanoparticles by plant extract mediated synthesis can be applied as a photocatlyst for the possible waste water treatment in textile industry.

  • Gram scale synthesis of monoclinic VO2 microcrystals by hydrothermal and argon annealing treatment

    摘要: We report gram scale synthesis of 100 % phase fraction of VO2 (M) monoclinic in powder form with reversible phase transition by combining hydrothermal method and Ar annealing at high temperature. Optimization of single phase VO2 (M) growth and its phase transition characteristics have been analysed systematically by varying growth parameters such as time, synthesis temperature and post growth annealing conditions. Argon annealing of hydrothermally grown VO2 powders at 800°C found to play key role in obtaining VO2 (M) phase in gram scale with characteristic phase transition temperature of 68°C. In-situ TEM has been performed to investigate the microstructure and phase change across the annealing temperature. Detailed characterizations have been carried out to correlate the phases, microstructure and transition temperature of VO2 with respect to growth parameters.

  • Structural transformations and spectroscopic properties of Ni-doped magnesium aluminosilicate glass-ceramics nucleated by a mixture of TiO2 and ZrO2 for broadband near-IR light emission

    摘要: Ni:MgAl2O4 spinel shows a reversible random Ni2t site redistribution with increasing temperature. With the aim of determining the influence of the structure evolution induced by heat-treatment on the nature of luminescence centers in NiO-doped spinel-based magnesium aluminosilicate glass-ceramics nucleated by a mixture of TiO2 and ZrO2, the detailed spectroscopic study of the initial glass during its heat-treatments at increasing and decreasing temperatures has been performed and accompanied by an XRD analysis and Raman spectroscopy. The initial glass was X-ray amorphous. Its optical spectrum is mainly formed by absorption of [5]Ni2t sites with a small amount of [4]Ni2t ones. Crystals of the nucleating catalyst, ZrTiO4, about 4 nm in size, appear during heat-treatment at 800 °C, while the absorption spectrum of Ni2t ions remains near unchanged. At 850 °C, spinel crystals with size of about 6 nm precipitate, which is accompanied by a broadband luminescence in the near-IR centered at 1330 nm with a bandwidth of 380 nm. At 950 °C, there is a slight reduction in intensity of absorption bands attributed to [6]Ni2t site redistribution with increasing temperature. A decrease in the amount of the [6]Ni2t luminescent centers is not accompanied by a decrease in the luminescence intensity because of the increased size of spinel crystals. Additional low-temperature heat-treatment does not lead to a redistribution between [6]Ni2t sites in spinel crystals in favor of [6]Ni2t ones. An increase of the luminescence intensity after low-temperature heat-treatment is associated with additional spinel crystallization.

  • Effects of Strength Training Program and Infrared Thermography in Soccer Athletes Injuries

    摘要: The purpose of this investigation was to examine the effects of a periodized strength training program and the use of infrared thermography (IRT) in injuries mapping in under 20-year-old (U-20) soccer players. In this study, 26 professional soccer players participated in strength training (ST) twice a week and were tested with IRT consistently across the 1-year. Strength, vertical jump, heat differences and injuries were tracked and analyzed. Results: 69 injuries occurred during 12 months of tracking; most identi?ed injuries were: contusions, sprains, strains to the thigh (n = 16), ankle (n = 15) and knee (n = 12). Differences (>7 ?C) in IRT patterns were noted among injured and non-injured athletes. Signi?cant improvements in strength (p < 0.005) were found for vertical jump, bench press, front lat pull down, shoulder press, leg press, leg curl and squat. Number of injuries decreased from 23 (33.3%) to 14 (20.3%) when early year rates were compared to late year (p < 0.005). Combined ST and IRT represent useful strategies for reducing injuries among U-20 soccer players.

    摘要: Water pollution caused by hazardous substances has become a global concern. Textile and dyestuff industries produce large amounts of wastewater containing various dye pollutants. Most azo dyes are nonbiodegradable and their release into the environment poses a major threat to the surrounding ecosystems. Remediation of organic aquatic pollutants by photocatalytic oxidation has proven to be an attractive promising technology among the advanced oxidation processes. Semiconductor photocatalysis is a topic of current interest mainly in view of its potential application in the mineralization of pollutants.

  • Boosting the efficiency of solution-based CZTSSe solar cells by using supercritical carbon dioxide treatment

    摘要: Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 (CZTSSe) solar cells are receiving considerable attention in recent years, owing to the low cost and toxicity as well as high abundance of their constituent elements. Solution-based (mainly precursor solution) methods have been widely used in the fabrication of CZTSSe-based thin film solar cells. Though most record solar cells since 2009 have been achieved using solution-based methods, carbonaceous residues are always formed during post deposition treatment (PDT). These carbonaceous residues are detrimental to grain growth of CZTSSe to form large grains. The presence of unwanted small grains layers will increase the series resistance and reduce the fill factor of the solar cell, thus consequently hindering high efficiency in CZTSSe solar cells. Herein, we propose “green” supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCO2) treatment to overcome the challenge of carbonaceous residues. FT-IR、SEM、XRD and Raman characterizations were used to confirm the reducing of carbonaceous residues in CZTSSe films. The solar cell fabricated from selenized CZTSSe precursor film with SCCO2 treatment under optimal conditions showed the best conversion efficiency of 11.23 % (VOC = 0.456 V, JSC = 36.6 mA/cm2, FF = 67.1 %). To the best of our knowledge, it is the first report on boosting the efficiency of solution-based CZTSSe solar cells by using SCCO2 treatment. In addition, this unique SCCO2 treatment may also bring forth new ideas in other solution-based optoelectronic devices.

  • Magneto-LED therapy in the treatment of inflammatory lesions and erosions of the glans penis a?? case report

    摘要: Introduction. Inflammatory lesions and erosions of the glans penis defined as balanitis or balanoposthitis constitute a disease in which the effectiveness of conservative treatment is not sufficient. Objective. To present the therapeutic efficacy of magneto-LED therapy in the treatment, and to present a patient with inflammatory lesions and erosions of the glans penis. Case report. The patient, 68 years old with inflammatory lesions and erosions of the glans penis of 2–4 years duration, was previously treated with various methods of local therapy without effect. As a result of a 32-week long magneto-LED therapy cycle, complete resolution of skin lesions with subsidence of the burning sensation during urination and reduced swelling and inflammatory erythema of the glans, as well as disappearance of the white coating and unpleasant smell, was achieved. Conclusions. Magneto-LED therapy is an efficient method of treatment of inflammatory lesions and erosions of the glans penis.

  • Laser Treatment for Melanin Gingival Pigmentations: A Comparison Study for 3 Laser Wavelengths 2780, 940, and 445a??nm

    摘要: The normal appearance of the gingiva is pink to light red, and this appearance may change due to many factors and might be noticeable causing aesthetic concerns. In the Gulf area, the gingival melanin pigmentation is of the main type of concern, and patients expect the pigmentation to be removed for aesthetic reasons. Many techniques have been used to remove the melanin pigmentation such as using surgical blades, diamond or ceramic burs, chemicals, and lasers. This study is comparing the results of three lasers (Er, Cr, YSGG 2780 nm, Diode 940 nm, and 445 nm) in the removal of melanin gingival depigmentation. Clinical outcome parameters including bleeding, wound healing, pain, duration of procedure, color improvement, patient satisfaction, and relapse rate after 2 years were assessed. Conclusion. Within the limitation of this study, all three wavelengths were fast, e?ective in peeling the pigmentations and well tolerated by the patients. The esthetical results were excellent, and the patients were highly satis?ed. Suggestion. To have a bigger number of samples in future papers, and histological studies might be included to explore the di?erent impacts of each wavelength on the gingival melanin pigmentation speci?cally and on the gingival tissue generally.

  • Evaluation of the clinical and biochemical efficacy of erbium, chromium:ytrium-scandium-gallium-garnet (ER,CR:YSGG) laser treatment in periodontitis

    摘要: The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical and biochemical efficacy of erbium, chromium:ytrium-scandium-gallium-garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) laser treatment, in addition to non-surgical periodontal treatment (NSPT), in periodontitis patients. This was a single-centre, split-mouth, randomized, controlled 6-month clinical trial. Twenty-seven patients with moderate to advanced periodontitis were included in the study. The patients were randomly assigned to a debridement and laser treatment group or control group (debridement alone). Clinical measurements were performed at baseline and 1, 3 and 6 months post-treatment. The following parameters were measured: plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), bleeding on probing (BoP), gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) volume and IL-1β and MMP-8 levels in GCF. There were statistically significant clinical improvements in both groups, with no significant between-group differences in PD, CAL, PI and BoP clinical measurements (p < 0.05). As compared with the control group, the GI 1 and 3 months post-treatment and BoP 1 month post-treatment were significantly improved in the laser group (p < 0.05). There was also a significant reduction in IL-1 β levels in both groups at baseline versus those 1, 3 and 6 months later (p < 0.05) There was no statistically significant difference in IL-1β and MMP-8 levels between groups (p < 0.05). Both the treatment modalities resulted in significant improvements in clinical parameters. Within the limitations of this study, Er,Cr:YSGG laser treatment applied in addition to NSPT is indicated to reduce clinical inflammation.

  • Deep sedation for laser treatment of cutaneous vascular anomalies in children

    摘要: Pulse laser treatment is useful for aesthetic improvement in children with capillary vascular malformation and residual superficial haemangiomas. However, pulse laser treatment is painful, and repeated procedures are usually required to achieve a satisfactory clinical result. Evidence shows that analgesia in children undergoing pulse laser treatment may vary from general anaesthesia to no treatment at all. This report describes our institutional experience with deep sedation in children with capillary vascular malformation, undergoing laser pulse treatment.
