  • Indoor Localization Using K-Pairwise Light Emitting Diode Image-Sensor-Based Visible Light Positioning

    摘要: A great deal of research has been devoted to studying indoor localization schemes for the development of location-based services. This study investigated an indoor localization system, including subsystems of non-line-of-sight (NLOS) image-sensor-based visible light communications (IS-VLC) and the proposed ??-pairwise light emitting diode (LED) image-sensor-based visible light positioning (IS-VLP), in a unified lighting environment. A smartphone received multiple LED identifiers through the designed NLOS IS-VLC and successfully performed the proposed ??-pairwise LED IS-VLP with ?? = 3 to achieve localization, with maximum localization errors of 2.92 cm and 3.54 cm being obtained for ceiling heights of 100 cm and 150 cm, respectively.

  • Indoor Visible Light Communications, Networking, and Applications

    摘要: Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are changing indoor wireless communications. Visible light communications (VLC) that use LEDs as transmitters is an emerging research area and has significant commercial potential. The light emitted from LEDs can simultaneously carry information and provide illumination. Due to the intrinsic characteristics of light, VLC is more secure, more power efficient, and can provide higher network data transmission rates than radio frequency (RF) communications. This paper describes state-of-the-art VLC systems including transmitters, receivers, and channel models. Modulation and networking algorithms for physical layer and cross-layer designs are discussed. These algorithms are designed considering practical constraints, such as the bandlimited channel, illumination requirements, and transmitted power limitations. Indoor localization algorithms are proposed, with a particular focus on fingerprinting. In addition, this paper introduces practical applications of VLC in many fields such as national defense, healthcare, robotics, and vehicle-to-vehicle communications. The paper concludes with a discussion of the challenges, opportunities, and future of VLC.

    摘要: Solid-State device light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are rapidly being embedded in different commonly used devices, as are photodiodes and image sensors. Furthermore, illumination using LED reduces power consumption and motivates decorative illumination design. Because LED-based light sources are widely available, there are several options for visible light communication and positioning systems. This chapter provides an overview of the technologies that have paved the way for visible light communication and positioning systems.

    摘要: This paper shows a system and a method for indoor positioning based on the LED lighting installed on the environment. The proposal is based on the modulation of the visible light signal emitted in frequencies ranging from 50 to 200 kHz and detection by means of a PSD (Position Sensitive Detector) photodiode. The paper describes the mathematical modelisation of the proposed Indoor Positioning System (IPS), considering that the detector will move on a planar surface. Several synthetic results are shown for distances of 1 and 3 meters between the light source and detector. The positioning technique is based on the angle of arrival (AoA) captured from the LED lighting. Using genetic algorithm, we have obtained the model parameters for the detector (composed of a PSD and coupled lens). Different experimental tests have been carried out to determine the precision in positioning with the proposed system, considering a ceil lighting at 3 meters distance, with a coverage surface area of 3x3 m2. The average error results in the positioning of the detector, with low multipath (MP) effect, are below 1 cm in 80% of the tested points. Considering the presence of strong effects of multipath signals, the maximum positioning error remains below 4.5 cm.

    摘要: This paper assesses the accuracy of a three-dimensional Visible Light Positioning (VLP) algorithm for two different Light Emitting Diode (LED) configurations using the same four LEDs, but mounted at different locations on the ceiling. The two configurations are both simulated and measured at 22801 test points. It is observed that a classic square LED configuration results in position ambiguities, causing errors up to several meters. Alternatively, a star-shaped LED configuration is able to uniquely reconstruct the photodiode’s location. For LEDs at a height of approximately 3 m above the receiver, median errors of 12.7 cm and maximal errors of 21.1 cm are experimentally obtained, showcasing the applicability of 3D VLP for drone navigation.

    摘要: In this work the design of a transmitter and receiver for indoor visible light positioning is elaborated. The dedicated design is then deployed to conduct measurements to obtain the estimated distance between transmitter and receiver. The results show that the error on the distance estimation between transmitter and receiver is below 3 cm for a realistic setting and good overall performance is achieved. Some additional measurements are done near a re?ecting surface to estimate the in?uence of the none-line of sight component on the received optical power.

  • Improved Smartphone-based Indoor Pedestrian Dead Reckoning Assisted by Visible Light Positioning

    摘要: Aiming at the problem of heavy preparation work and high cost of indoor positioning technology, this paper proposes (VLP)-assisted smartphone-based pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR) indoor positioning technology. This technology combines the advantages of both PDR and VLP algorithms for indoor positioning. During the pedestrian position calculation, the method of using the averaging of mode to process the heading angle data is creatively used, which improves the positioning accuracy and increases reliable operation time. At the same time, the two-level verification method consisting of cyclic redundancy check and range constraint is implemented for VLP, which uses a LED carrying a modulation code as a beacon for absolute position and the camera of smartphone to capture/decode the LED image to obtain the absolute position and periodically correct the position of the PDR positioning, thereby avoiding the accumulation of PDR positioning technology errors. The scope and reliability of PDR are demonstrated. Experiments show that this method is a kind of low-cost, high-robust, high-precision indoor positioning technology.
