  • Design of Real-Time Slope Monitoring system using Time-Domain Reflectometry with Wireless Sensor Network

    摘要: Slope monitoring systems using WSN is an efficient technique to track slope movements or failures. Instability in slope contributes greatly in hazards caused to lives and property in mining areas and operations. Electronic instrumentation like wire-line extensometers, piezometers, total stations etc. are used for sensing the slope stability. The available wireless monitoring systems like SSR, LiDAR, Laser monitoring techniques are more expensive. In order to overcome this, efficient and economically feasible measurement systems for slope monitoring are needed. This paper presents the design, development and field implementation of an online, cost-effective wireless system for real-time slope monitoring which gives visible warning of a possible slope failure. The system is designed on Arduino board as a platform with RF module (ZigBee) for wireless communication. Additionally, using python the database and GUI are implemented. The experimental field TDR data is also verified with the total station monitoring system.

  • Wireless sensing for a solar power system

    摘要: Wireless sensing is an excellent approach for remotely operated solar power system. Not only to get the sensor data, such as voltage, current, and temperature, but the system can also have a proper control for tracking the Sun and sensing real-time data from a controller. In order to absorb the maximum energy by solar cells, it needs to track the Sun with proper angles. Arduino, H-bridge motor driver circuit, and Direct Current (DC) motor are used to alter the tilt angle of the solar Photovoltaic (PV) panel following the Sun while the azimuth and the elevation angles are fixed at noon. Unlike the traditional way, the tilt rotation is proposed to be stepped hourly. The solar PV panel is tilted 7.5? in advance of current time to the west to produce more output voltage during an hour. As a result, the system is simple while providing good solar-tracking results and efficient power outputs.

  • Remote Image Capture System to Improve Aerial Supervision for Precision Irrigation in Agriculture

    摘要: Due to the limitations of drones and satellites to obtain aerial images of the crops in real time, the time to flight delay, the problems caused by adverse weather conditions and other issues, the use of fixed cameras placed on the regions of interest is essential to get closer, periodic and on-demand images. Water management in agriculture is one of the most important applications of these images. Top view images of a crop can be processed for determining the percentage of green cover (PGC), and 2D images from different viewing angles can be applied for obtaining 3D models of the crops. In both cases, the obtained data can be managed for calculating several parameters such as crop evapotranspiration, water demand, detection of water deficit and indicators about solute transport of fertilizers in the plant. For this purpose, a remote image capture system has been developed for an application in lettuce crops. The system consists of several capture nodes and a local processing base station which includes image processing algorithms to obtain key features for decision-making in irrigation and harvesting strategies. Placing multiple image capture nodes allows obtaining different observation zones that are representative of the entire crop. The nodes have been designed to have autonomous power supply and wireless connection with the base station. This station carries out irrigation and harvesting decisions using the results of the processing of the images captured by the nodes and the information of other local sensors. The wireless connection is made using the ZigBee communication architecture, supported by XBee hardware. The two main benefits of this choice are its low energy consumption and the long range of the connection.

    摘要: This paper describes the work carried out on the design and construction of a mine safety system prototype using a wireless sensor network with the objective of building a safety system to monitor the ambient characteristics of the mining environment. A review of the current literature relating to the health and safety of mine workers and mine safety systems is done. The subsystems of the prototype system are then simulated. The hardware consisted of electronic circuitry where a microcontroller is the principal processing unit. A graphical user interface is also implemented. A number of qualification tests are carried out. The temperature, humidity, airflow, and noise sensor measurements have an accuracy of 89.01%, 98.55%, 90.5%, and 89.53%, and a resolution of 0.105 ?C, 0.12% RH, 0.05 m/s, and 0.23 dB SPL, respectively. In addition, gas and dust sensors met the specification; however, the accuracy could be improved. Two controlled outputs were implemented in the form of ventilation switching and a noise protection scheme.

By comparing and analyzing the Zigbee protocol and Jennet-IP protocol, it is proposed that Jennet-IP can be the preferred choice of the underlying network transmission operation protocol of visible light communication.

  • Design and Implementation of a RFID Reader/Router in RFID-WSN Hybrid System

    摘要: In order to put Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) in a hybrid system, this paper presents the design and implementation of a RFID reader/router that can obtain information of both RFID tags and WSN sensor nodes and transmit the information through the WSN to the PC server. The RFID reader and WSN router are combined with both hardware and software. In hardware structure, CC2530 is used as micro controller and RF module for ZigBee wireless communication, and MF RC522 is used as reader RF chip. The software deals with both identity and sensing information and controls the routing. Experiment results show that the RFID reader/router achieves long distance identification, flexibility, scalability, and low cost. It also provides reliable and secured data transmission and broadens the communication range and application scope of RFID readers.

    摘要: Radio over Fiber (RoF) is one of the main technologies for the next-generation access networks due to its immunity to electromagnetic interference, low latency, low power consumption and high transmission capacity. RoF enables the processing of several radio frequency (RF) signals in a centralized location, reducing both capital expenditures (CAPEX) and operating expenditures (OPEX). This paper describes a testbed of Internet-of-Things (IoT) for environmental monitoring based on RoF that is under development in the framework of the H2020 FUTEBOL project. Moreover, we assess the impact of RoF on network performance by using a new methodology oriented to real environments.

    摘要: A kind of ground deformation monitoring device with Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) as the basic sensing device is specifically designed, and the wireless network technology is introduced to form a remote monitoring system, which consists of single chip microcomputer, hardware and software design integrating ZigBee and GPRS, to overcome the difficulties and deficiencies of traditional mine geological disaster monitoring technology. The fiber grating sensor distributed in the terminal is used to measure the ground deformation of goaf in real time, and the monitoring data are collected to the coordinator node via wireless communication and finally transmitted to the upper computer through GPRS module. Featured by low cost, high reliability and easy networking, this monitoring system reduces the cost of the wireline equipment due to wiring and can automatically and remotely monitor the wide-range ground subsidence area in the mine goaf. It is shown through the practical application in monitoring of the goaf in certain iron mine in Zibo that this monitoring system has reliable performance, high monitoring accuracy and good monitoring results.
