  • Degradation kinetics of anthocyanin and physicochemical changes in fermented turnip juice exposed to pulsed UV light

    摘要: In this study, the effects of pulsed UV (PUV) light on the degradation kinetics of anthocyanins and physicochemical properties of turnip juice were investigated. PUV light was applied to turnip juice at 3 different distances (5, 8, 13 cm) from the quartz window of the xenon lamp for 5 different times (5, 15, 30, 45, 60 s). The pH, total acidity (% lactic acid), monomeric anthocyanin content, color density, hue, brightness, and percent color components (yellow, red, and blue) of turnip juice changed significantly after PUV-light treatments at each level. The maximum degradation of anthocyanin after PUV-light treatments was found to be about 63%. The anthocyanin degradation, brightness, yellow and blue color (%) increased, while red color (%) decreased with longer treatment time and shorter distance. The degradation of monomeric anthocyanins in turnip juice exposed to PUV light was described by the Weibull model (R2 0.982–0.998, RMSE 0.087–0.133) more accurately than the first-order kinetics (R2 0.906–0.992, RMSE 0.071–0.192).

  • Anthocyanin synthesis and light utilisation can be enhanced by reflective mulch – visualisation of light penetration into a tree canopy

    摘要: With the increasing use of hailnets and decrease in light availability in the ripening period of apple fruit, insufficient light exposure often causes poor colouration viz anthocyanin synthesis on certain parts of the fruit and on certain fruit within the tree. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential of improving anthocyanin synthesis, in terms of fruit colouration, the major incentive for a consumer. Therefore, the reflective ground cover Lumilys? was spread between ‘Braeburn Mariri Red’ apple rows under a crystalline hailnet seven weeks prior to harvest and colour measured on 240 attached apple fruit. The reflective ground cover increased the reflected light by 1.6 to 3.9 times 1.0 m above ground. The improved light utilization led to an improved peel colouration, especially on the shaded side of the apple fruit and fruit in the lower inner part of the canopy, A coloured visualization from orange (high light intensity), yellow (medium) to green (low light intensity) as a result of the individual PAR measurements every 20 cm inside the canopy showed how the reflective mulch influences the light penetration into the different parts of the tree canopy.

  • High Efficiency Dye Sensitized Solar Cell from <i>Tectona Grandis</i> and red <i>Crysanthemum Morifolium</i> as a Sensitizer

    摘要: Tectona Grandis leaves and red Crysanthemum Morifolium have been used as sensitizers for dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) using organic solvents by ethanol, citric acid, and distilled water in respectively with the ratio of 5 : 1 : 4. TiO2 paste was spin-coated on top Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) conductive glass and calcinated at temperature of 450oC for 10 min. The chemical properties were analysis by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) indicated the presence of anthocyanin from Tectona Grandis leaves and red Crysanthemum Morifolium petal. The physical properties were analysis by using UV-Vis spectrophotometer was performed to measure the absorbance of dye solution in the visible spectrum range and X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD) was used to determine the structure of TiO2/ITO and Dye/TiO2/ITO. Among the three dyes studied, the mixed dye solution from Tectona Grandis leaves and red Crysanthemum Morifolium was shows the best photosensitization effects with the conversion efficiency is 0.834 %.

  • The sensitization effect of anthocyanin and chlorophyll dyes on optical and photovoltaic properties of zinc oxide based dye-sensitized solar cells

    摘要: In this work, natural dyes based on anthocyanin and chlorophyll pigments were extracted from the powder of P. rubra flowers and S. androgynous leave respectively and used as sensitizers to fabricate zinc oxide (ZnO) based dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC). It was observed in optical properties analysis that anthocyanin molecules formed a better bond with ZnO surface compared to chlorophyll. Moreover, anthocyanin sensitized ZnO also exhibits higher increment in nanoparticles diameter compared to that of chlorophyll sensitized ZnO due to the chemical absorption occurant. The anthocyanin sensitized DSSC also shows better photovoltaic performance with power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 0.038% compared to chlorophyll sensitized DSSC which exhibited PCE value of 0.014% due to better charges transfer at the interface between the dye molecule and ZnO nanoparticle.

  • Preparation of dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) using isolated anthocyanin fromfruit sat (melastomamalabathricum l) dicopimented with salicylic acid as dye

    摘要: A study has been conducted on the use of anthocyanin extract from fruits (Melastomamalabthricum L), which was incubated by the addition of salicylic acid as photosensitizer in DSSC solar cells. The objective of this study was to determine the optimum condition of the extracts of copigmenation which resulted in the optimum efficiency of DSSC solar cells by increasing the absorption ability of anthocyanin pigment photons.The method used is the method of copigmentation. Copigmentation is an anthocyanin reaction with a copigment compound to form a more complex anthocyanin structure with a number of double bonds that can absorb more photons than the original anthocyanin.. The results of dye characterization using UV-Vis and FTIR indicate a wider absorption spectrum and a more complex structure in antigianated anthocyanins when compared without copigmentation. Based on the results of the characterization of the prepared TiO2 thin film, obtained crystal size of TiO2 used ranged from 27.377 to 64.738 nm with a width of 200-950 nm photocathode spekrum absorption. Based on the results of the research, it is found that the antiganant extract can be increased by DSSC solar cell efficiency from 0.62% to 1.32% with 24 hours of copigmentation time and 1: 2 concentration of concentration.

  • Effect of combination of natural dyes and post-TiCl4 treatment in improving the photovoltaic performance of dye-sensitized solar cells

    摘要: Herein, dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have been sensitized with natural red dye (extracted from red spinach) and yellow dye (extracted from turmeric) and five different combinations of red and yellow dyes (at different volume ratios) to determine the optimum combination of red and yellow dyes for the maximum cell efficiency. In addition, the effect of post-TiCl4 treatment in improving cell efficiency has been studied. From UV-vis absorption spectrum, higher absorbance and cumulative absorption properties over the entire visible region show that the combination of red and yellow dyes absorbs light better than the individual red or yellow dyes. DSSCs sensitized with red and yellow dyes have a photoconversion efficiency of 0.416% and 0.921%, respectively. DSSCs sensitized with the combination of red and yellow dyes showed higher cell parameters than the DSSCs sensitized with the individual yellow or red dye. The photoelectrical parameters of DSSCs cosensitized with the optimum combination of dyes (40% red + 60% yellow) were as follows: short-circuit current (Isc) = 5.343 mA, open-circuit voltage (Voc) = 0.493 V, fill factor (FF) = 0.481, and overall photoconversion efficiency = 1.267%. However, after the treatment of FTO (fluorine doped tin oxide) / TiO2 with TiCl4, a significant amount of improvement in the Isc, Voc, and FF was observed. DSSCs fabricated with TiCl4-treated FTO/TiO2 and sensitized with the optimum combination of red and yellow dyes showed the following cell parameters: Isc= 5.829 mA, Voc= 0.498 V, and F$F = 0.541. Hence, the efficiency obtained was 1.572%, which is almost 1.24 times higher than that of the DSSCs fabricated without TiCl4 treatment. Finally, the possible effect of water content in the combination of dyes has been observed with a fixed amount of red dye in the combination.

  • Potential of Purple Cabbage ( <i>Brassica oleracea var. capitata f</i> .) and Duwet Fruit ( <i>Eugenia cumini</i> ) as sensitizers in Dye Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC)

    摘要: Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) prototype has been investigated using purple cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata f.) and duwet fruit (Eugenia cumini) as natural dyes. Dark purple natural dyes have been extracted from purple cabbage and duwet fruit. The extracts were used as sensitizing ingredients to make sensitizers in DSSC. Natural dyes were extracted with ultrasonic extraction methods using ethanol and distilled water at 30 0C with frequency 40 Hz for 30 minutes. The properties of purple cabbage and duwet fruit dye have been investigated by UV-Visible Spectrophotometer. The results showed that extracts of purple cabbage and duwet fruit had a dark red color, broad spectrum in 500-550 nm and photon energy of 2.28-2.37 eV. Both of the extracts have the same color and have the potential as sensitizers in DSSC development.

    摘要: The utilization of red dragon fruit peels (Hylocereus costaricensis) as a DSSC sensitizer has been done to study the effect of extracted dye concentration on DSSC efficiency. DSSC has four main components, namely working electrode, sensitizer, a counter electrode, and electrolyte. One of the most essential components in DSSC is a sensitizer. In this work, variations of concentration of dye extracted were carried out to obtain an optimal concentration of dye so that TiO2 could fully absorb molecular dyes. The dye solution was extracted by dissolving the red dragon fruit peels into methanol, acetic acid, and aquades. Variation of concentration used was 5g/20mL; 10g/20mL; 15g/20mL; 20g/20mL; 25g/20mL; and 30/20mL (b/v). Optical properties of dye solution and TiO2/dye layer was characterized by UV-Vis spectrophotometer, functional groups of TiO2/dye layer was characterized by Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR), and current-voltage of DSSC was characterized by Keithley I-V Meter. Extracted dye results show optical absorption at a wavelength of 450 - 550 nm, which has a peak that tended to increase with increasing concentration. Meanwhile, the absorption spectrum was obtained from Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) shows the presence of functional groups O-H, C=O, C=C, C-O, and C-H aromatic. The results of DSSC current-voltage characterization obtained an efficiency of 0.047% at a concentration of 20g/20mL; this was supported by the highest absorbance of TiO2 films which dye coated at a concentration of 20g/20mL.
