Metamaterials - Devices and Applications || Development of Metamaterial EBG Absorbers for Application of Wireless Inter/Intrachip Communication Systems
摘要: First, the chapter presents a novel design of electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) absorber with the characteristics of broad bandwidth, low profile, and polarization‐independence to a normal incident electromagnetic wave. The absorber is composed of three consecutive octagon or decagon loops, and highly‐resistive frequency selective surface (FSS) layers. Second, based on the feature of the designed absorber unit, a broadband, meta‐material absorber‐bounded, wireless inter/intrachip (WIIC) communication channel is constructed at the center frequency of 60 GHz. Third, in order to validate the developed methodology used in WIIC analysis, a wired channel on a conventional PCB has been measured, simulated, and analyzed. Fourth, with the extracted S‐parameters of the WIIC system and wired PCB channel, the system impulse responses and transfer functions of the investigated channels have been further extracted, which are used for validation and BER analysis of the WIIC system. Finally, it has been shown that based on the derived BER results, the performance of the designed WIIC channel is close to that of an additive Gaussian white noise (AWGN) channel when the WIIC transceivers are built in with the functionalities of forward error control (FEC), channel estimation, and equalization.

摘要: This paper depicts a modi?ed return-to-zero differential quadrature phase shift keying (RZ-DQPSK) modulation scheme. A simulative analysis has been performed for an optimization of the proposed scheme. The analysis has also been extended for two different types of commercial ?bers; standard single-mode ?ber (SSMF) and true wave-reduced slope (TW-RS) ?ber to report the similar qualitative performance characteristics. For the sake of better understanding of the proposed modi?ed carving signal RZ-DQPSK scheme, optical spectrum and eye pattern plots are also investigated.

摘要: This paper investigates the impact of solar irradiance and fog condition on visible light communication (VLC) based car-to car (C2C) communication for two capital cities, New Delhi and London. The bit error rate (BER) variation over a day has been compared for both the cities for the month of March, June and December. It has been shown that for a given BER threshold performance, the impact of solar irradiance is more pronounced in month of June especially at New Delhi when solar irradiance reaches its peak. It has also been shown that in month of December, fog is one of the most significant climatic factors that greatly influences the VLC based C2C communication in terms of atmospheric attenuation. This paper also establishes the relationship for the minimum safety distance required between cars based on two-second rule, car speed and angle between cars. The minimum safety distance which would be required to avoid any rear-end collision especially during light or dense fog in the month of December has also been compared for New Delhi and London.

Comparison of Modulation Techniques for Underwater Optical Wireless Communication Employing APD Receivers
摘要: In this study, we theoretically analyze the performance of an underwater optical wireless communications system using different modulation techniques and an avalanche photodiode APD receiver over underwater environment channels. Based on the LOS geometrical model and combined with signal to noise ratio model for Si and Ge APD and BER; then the impact of the distance of transmission and power of the transmitter and Jerlov water type are analyzed. The characteristics of bit error rate BER for different optical modulation techniques are studied. Simulation results indicate that the performance of H-QAM is more suited for an underwater optical wireless communication. On the other hand, the suitability of avalanche photodiodes under these modulation techniques is discussed, because the photodiode Si APD has more advantages compared with Ge APD when used in an underwater optical communication.

摘要: Underwater optical wireless communication (UOWC) systems are subject to severe performance degradation due to undissolved particles that make the water turbid. The point source diffusion of a substance in water creates a Gaussian-distributed attenuation spread for a given time instance, which makes communication challenging. To overcome this issue, we propose a dual-hop UOWC system in which the transmitter-receiver link is assisted by several amplify-and-forward relay nodes. To characterize the performance gains of this relay system, we study the bit error rate assuming on-off keying modulation. We investigate the impact of key system and particle distribution parameters such as the transmit power, the number of relays, and the spatial position of the attenuation spread on the performance.

摘要: In this paper, the differential on-off keying (DOOK), which has the resistance of background noise and high transmission efficiency characteristic, is focused. Especially, framed-DOOK system with 2-bit synchronization signal, which proposed by authors for solving synchronization slip problem on DOOK system, is considered. In this paper, bit error probability theoretically in consideration of synchronization performance of the proposed system is derived and evaluated on optical-wireless channel. As the result, it is shown that the proposed system is effective on the optical-wireless OOK.

摘要: An optical-wireless code-shift-keying (CSK) system utilizing dual modified pseudo orthogonal M-sequence sets (DMPOMs) has been proposed by authors. DMPOM is generated by merging modified pseudo orthogonal M-sequence sets (outer-code), bi-orthogonal code and orthogonal M-sequences (inner-code). In this paper, bit error rate (BER) of the optical-wireless CSK/asynchronous CDMA is investigated in 2-user communication. Consequently, for the realization of the CSK/CDMA, it is effective to utilize the inner codes generated by different feedback taps.
